@rolfl there's that, but it looks like the SO ad is just... successful! It's doing better than a lot of other ads, can't wait to see the figures in a couple of months, and see if it's sustained. BTW I think the SO ad is somewhat of an 'outlaw', the MSO post clearly states it's for promoting open-source projects... but Grace Note was notified of its existence, and it's still up so I guess it's fine...

@Mat'sMug Well, we do review open-source projects (by the OP). :-)

it looks like everyone that upvoted @codesparkle's ad also upvoted the ad on SO :) - 22 on meta.CR, 22 on meta.SO
I still think GameDev.SE would be a nice place to put an ad for CR. From their tag page it looks like it could have an impact on tags like , , , and of course, ...

I don't know, ..I think raising CR-awareness across the SE dev communities is the right thing to do. When the gamedev folks get their code running like they want, there has to be a part of them that would like a peer review.. like on SO, when the OP gets their code running like they want, they might not realize a peer review would be nice, until they see our ad! wait, does this code smell?

Even if it was on-topic for CR, you don't recommend another site if the original question is crap. Have them fix it there, then send it over.

Yup.

So $H^k(A)$ is the quotient vector space defined as $\frac{C^k(A)}{E^k(A)}$ where $C^k(A)$ represents set of closed forms on A and $E^k(A)$ represents set of exact forms on A. Lets say A is homologically trivial...so $C^k(A)=E^k(A)$ . Does that mean that the dimension of the $H^k(A)$ space is zero for all k.

Normally I close mine resources to

well It definitely depends...

7:37 AM
I was trying add a code to the try-with-resource
// Register the driver once in the constructor.

private Connection getConectar() throws SQLException {
    return DriverManager.getConnection(url, login, password);
}

 public boolean Update (String update) {
    int result;
    try (Connection connection = getConectar()){
        try (Statement statement = connection.createStatement()) {
            result = statement.executeUpdate(update);
        }
    }
    catch (SQLException e) {
        System.out.println("Exception in update method:\n" + e.getMessage());

I prefer having stuff implement AutoClosable, and have it managed by the JVM...

do I need to add a second catch?

not really...

cause mine IDE just say I can't use try with resource

on what line?

7:38 AM
on both, have only java 6 on pc
maybe next year we may do java 7 :D

The try-with-resource requires the resource to implement AutoCloseable
Here they write, you can use finally block as workaround for J6.
btw. you know why all 12 Generalist badges were awarded 13 h ago=?

@Vogel612 I know, I just want to have the try with resource example in mine answer correct, otherwise I get commented on that I could use the try-with -resource
lol, and I don't have it ^^

try (Connection connection = getConectar(),
  Statement statement = connection.createStatement()) {
        result = statement.executeUpdate(update);
    }
}
this should do the trick..
you don't need to open a new try for each resource.
no guarantees, though.

so he close the statement to then?

*confused*

7:45 AM
:D

as soon as you put the Statement statement = connection.createStatement() into parentheses, you imply it is AutoCloseable.

and then it will be closed...

@Vogel612 it wheren't actually spaces :) alt + 255 is a space that counts as char. (easy trick for html if you need 2 or more spaces quickly)
oke then I'm gonna edit the answer

I don't think Statement is AutoCloseable..
so you should exclude it from the parentheses...
instead write:
try (Connection connection = getContear()){
    Statement statement = connection.getStatement();
    result = statement.executeUpdate(update);
}

nvm then...

The only reason that would allow usage of it is optimistic cleanup of non-critical resources

look at the comments :)

There's no guarantee at all that finalize() gets called

10:38 AM
200_succes thinks otherwise
I know, that is in min epost

I wouldn't even close it optimistically when working with critical resources
(A connection is a critical resource) When not closing it optimistically, bugs get found earlier in testing, rather than some very weird bug in production which you are not able to explain

euuh explain? you shall never close it then or always closing?

You want to force clients to manually close it (with AutoCloseable)
the only thing that you can do in a finalize() is to log warnings that a connection is not closed, that way bugs get actually found pretty easily I suppose

No, I see that he never closes his connection => bad practice
so to do good I have 2 solutions use the AutoCloseable or the finalize

But finalize is not a good solution... in my opinion

10:43 AM
I prefer also the try-with-resource or the try-catch-finally
or is there a third solution?
you have to take care that Conector is a normal class so there can be as many instanciations of that class as you want
