Q: Code not Working For Large Permutations

Angela Marie-DaleyI've just completed a codility test and only achieved a score of 81%. My code failed when a 'large permutation' was tested against it. I've got no idea why this failed, as the spec says all values are integers, and my for loop uses only int values. I would really appreciate it if somebody could ...

Does anyone see a problem in her code? I just double checked it, but it seems to work.
she has an indentation mistake, but that's it
Aha there is indeed a problem at 'i < A.length-1'
when A is only 1 element large
bah, she deleted it. :D

She probably realized it herself

Well, that's probably even better

Indeed

Do either of you have a Windows machine?
Windows 8 machine?

Nope

Windows yes, 8 no

I'm doing a huge update for my app, and I am picking a new title font.
I like Imprint MT Shadow, but it apparently isn't provided with Windows.
Must be either Office or Adobe brought it in.
It comes with Office.

Q: Navigating Calendar by Week - Refactoring a Mess

MikeiLLI started actually learning a little programming last year, as opposed to just hacking away at libraries and found fragments. I made a piece of code and I'd like to check if it can be optimized (which is probably the case) I'm not sure if it's good enough for CR, could someone double check?
http://ideone.com/TQrfwn
If you know the answer already feel free to share, that saves me creating a question

What is it, Python?
It can probably be optimized, and it is good enough for CR, I think.

yes python
I'm not familiar enough with nifty python constructs that could save some work

Neither am I.

Q: Sentence formatting

Jonathan BeaudoinI wrote this function to format a given sentence via Java, and I'm wondering if there is a better way of doing this without use of external libraries, such as with regex. public class ChatFormat { public static void main(String[] args) { String input = "hello, it's a monday today an...

Does anyone have an idea whether it would look strange to have a main and a fallback font for my app, or whether I should have just one?
I picked one from Office as my main font, but I'm not sure whether it would look funny.
I decided to ditch the one.

2:01 AM
@Hosch250 why not pick one that's free to distribute along with your app?
There are plenty of free fonts out there..

I want to stick with ones in Windows. Besides, I don't even know if Windows Store apps can do that.
They might be able to.
I repositioned the original font, and it looks good now.

Knuth reward checks are checks awarded by computer scientist Donald Knuth for finding mistakes in, or making suggestions for, his publications. According to MIT Technology Review, "Knuth’s reward checks are among computerdom's most prized trophies". In the preface of each of his books and on his website, Knuth offers a reward of $2.56 (USD) to the first person to find each error in his published books, whether it be technical, typographical, or historical. Knuth explains that $2.56, or 256 cents, corresponds to one hexadecimal dollar. Valuable suggestions are worth 32 cents. In his earlier books...

A: Test many sorting algorithms using Python and Nose

VeedracYou don't need backslashes for line continuation inside any pair of brackets. Remove them. Further, this formatting IMHO is quite strange anyway. If I am honest, it helped simplify the framework to a fair extent
The Supplier is the kicker.
and what I learned before about the Collectors in a parallel stream not needing to be thread-safe....

Yeah, I like functional programming in non-functional languages
Full FP is a bit too hardcore in my opinion though

Well, in this case, it was a fair example where the stream overhead is a small portion of the workload, and the syntax 'sugar' of Java 8 made the progamming simpler with negligible impact on performance

the stream overhead is really nothing big, but there are simply cases where you don't want it
wow, this is quite... interesting, what just happened

Sneezed and it hit the far wall?

I am... doing some of all of those
I'm a student, that's correct

My question on Christianity.SE got metaphorically butchered. They edited so much out-of and into it that even I don't recognize it anymore.

@RubberDuck what? You're paid to answer vba questions on stack overflow?

2:54 PM
No. Of course not. I've been in the LQ queue......
Only so much of that I can take though.

@Phrancis that's "transfigurated"

I'm actually waiting for someone to send me a file. It's still slow post holiday.

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an episode in the New Testament narrative in which Jesus is transfigured (or metamorphosed) and becomes radiant upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2-8, Luke 9:28–36) describe it, and 2 Peter 1:16–18 refers to it. In these accounts, Jesus and three of his apostles go to a mountain (the Mount of Transfiguration). On the mountain, Jesus begins to shine with bright rays of light. Then the prophets Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he speaks with them. Jesus is then called "Son" by a voice in the sky, assumed to be God the Father, as in...

It's been closed as off-topic anyways, even after 2 answers, 1 accepted. WTHeck.
I'm weighing whether I should bother to post on their meta or not.
If it was off-topic to begin with, just close it; don't disfigure it to the point it's a completely different question!

I would post the meta @Phrancis. Some of those edits clearly violate the spirit of your question.
I think that's vandalism, and agree with you. If it was off topic, close it. Don't mangle it.
Then again, I don't much care for the religion SE's... as much as we might not be a traditional Q&A, I don't think they're really a good fit for the Q&A format

3:04 PM
Maybe your title didn't help to get the support of the community

Could be. Guess I'll post on the Meta there and find out why this happened.

They tried to make it on-topic by editing your post and changing your question instead of commenting and guiding you to the path of light help center

hey @RubberDuck

Congrats @bazola you just got a hat! :)

3:08 PM
Hmm. Apparently today is Dec 31 in Zulu Stackland.

@Mat'sMug you mean the treasure hunter one?
I didn't know I was close to Electorate, but I do try to vote a lot :)

I mean you just got starred, and it's New Year's Eve in StackLand :)
I wonder if @rolfl is going to end up with 44 or more hats.. last year the network-wide WB champion got 44 hats

@Mat'sMug Hey, quiet day in the office.....

Ten hats for me. More than enough, considering how ugly some of them are.

There are not as many as 44 hats this year.

3:16 PM
@rolfl True, but one can earn the same hat on multiple sites.

Hmm 38 hats, assuming there are 8 secret ones

38 hats total (unless there's another secret hat no-one knows about...)
I have all but 2 of them, and those two require special timing that has not yet been possible

I've got 4 Saint Lucia's and 2 Warm Welcomes.

@Donald - change your 'about me' in your profile, copy it to all sites, and get 1 chamaeleon hat for each site....

3:18 PM
@rolfl I was thinking that I would try to actually get some work done instead.

@rolfl That doesn't always work - it is apparently a random field for each person.
I had to change almost every field to find the right one.

I'm pretty sure that's what got me the Eureka hat actually....
It's random.

I see Tam o' Shanter is up for grabs.
3

Right... and what got me the eureka hat was the Fascinating Ma'am hat, and to figure that out, I 'earned' the hat on.... 13 sites.

Hmmm @Marc-Andre - long time no see ... season's greetings!

@Mat'sMug I just created a style for a ScrollViewer.
I want to be able to use it in many files and have it have a doubletapped command built-in.
Instead of having to put it in the code-behind of every related file.
Is that possible? I can't find anything on the web.

I think you can look into behaviors - haven't used them yet, but sounds like it @Hosch250

@Mat'sMug Thanks.
I am looking into using a class right now, but I'm not sure it will work.

I cheated.... I logged in to work from home, checked who was there... I know my boss, and boss's boss are both on holiday.... well, I scouted around, and only one of the 40 people in my dept are in the office. I called him a fool, and said "I'm staying home".

Even Java 8 while he hasn't coded in it yet! I did give him some tutorials though
Now today he wrote the documentation for the program ('my' program), and tomorrow we'll review it together... seems like a good deal
Tough decision: Which one of my pinned tabs will I remove?

The Java concepts are very similar to most other OO languages.

@Phrancis I was on the DBA team for about 3 months at one point in my career. I had to carry a pager (that dates it, right?). I eally struggle in the support-type roles, and after-hours support is a PITA.
@skiwi PCG?

@rolfl It's not even on there ;)
The problem is that I consider anything I'll ever encounter in my life to be possibility useful and worth keeping

Pagers :o

@skiwi I use google and web history for this

4:06 PM
@skiwi Most of our production are nightly.

@Marc-Andre huh?

Let me try again :P. Most of our production (routine to calculate insurance etc) are "working" during the night. So if you need to support it, you need a way to reach people. Pagers seems the "best" atm.

@Mat'sMug I found it - I needed to add a reference.

Do I make sense now ?

@Marc-Andre Heard about cell phones? ;p

4:12 PM
@Marc-Andre Ah I see
Yes, you make more senseo!

@Phrancis The company I worked for is not that high tech, with cell phones you do not have the same battery longevity, connectivity to the antenna (some people have "chalet" etc. The pagers seems the "best" option for them.

@Marc-Andre I see, makes sense!

@rolfl Our guys still carry pagers.

Do you call them "doctors"?
(AFAIK doctors carry pagers too)
...bad mug

A: Why was this question disfigured instead of just closed?

WardIt doesn't look like disfiguring to me... Originally, it wasn't clear what the question was - buried in the anecdote was "I'm wondering if this is something cultural" Someone interpreted that (partially based on comments?) as "Is it a cultural focus for Christians to think that God is involved ...

So... I suppose it's fine if we over at CR started editing OP's code to make it match the site?
(Sarcasm)

5:29 PM
@Phrancis Weekly team meeting
@Phrancis this creates the user with a password that is plain text
I actually tried the SPROC for creating a user and it didn't work the way I anticipated that it would, I didn't take the time to read the code
