12:00 AM
So is there a way you can fight that your weapons don't lose sharpness at the worst times?

@StrixVaria Whetstones will resharpen your weapon to max sharpness. So you can always sharpen before you go down a sharpness level.

How do you tell how close you are to losing sharpness?
There's a knife indicator thing that's always flashing yellow until it goes down a level, and then it's all jagged and red.
So it's not a very good indicator.
Ugh there are so many things I didn't understand about when I was playing and asking questions about all of them on the main site is going to be a pain.

@StrixVaria I believe you need to bear Harvest Shrroom, Farm Aid, GUTS, and No Love for Ludroth. After that I think it unlocks the first large monster. Which I don't think is a Great jaggi, actually. I think it's a giant bear.
@StrixVaria The game has a steep learning curve, but it's oh so worth it.

Is there a feed for questions in this room yet?

@StrixVaria Yes.
IT's the ultimate feed.

12:08 AM
I love the two swords weapon thing.
I hate the katana so much.
Although my hatred for the katana is also probably partially because there was this stupid leech thing that kept attaching itself to me while I was using it.

Q: How can I tell when my weapons will lose sharpness?

StrixVariaMy weapons have a tendency to lose sharpness at the worst times. How can I predict when the sharpness will go down so that I can use a whetstone before my next battle, rather than just being stuck in horrible circumstances constantly?

1
Q: What is the reddish meter below your health/stamina for?

StrixVariaBelow the health/stamina meter, there is a knife that flashes yellow most of the time. Even below that, there's a red meter that seems to change functionality depending on what weapon you're using. When I tried out the Katana, it would fill up as I attacked and then deplete over time. Now that I'...

Hey, I did get the feed working.
Surprising, that.

@StrixVaria Working on an answer for the emter question now
tl;dr It only exists for certain weapons, and it's functionality changes from weapon to weapon.
0
A: What is the reddish meter below your health/stamina for?

WipqoznThe location of that meter is reserved weapons with a unique functionality which require an additional bar. It's functionality varies from weapon to weapon, and doesn't even exist for some weapons. Other weapons will have something else in it's place which isn't a meter at all. The weapons whic...

And I'm answering the sharpness question.

@fbueckert Yay! Team work!

Holy crap swords sound way more interesting now.
Also the weapons sound ridiculously different.

12:42 AM
@StrixVaria They are.

I found "demon mode" and I saw it just constantly drained my stamina so I didn't mess with it much.

@StrixVaria Their are items which will give you infinite stamina for a short duration. Also, from what I understand the trick to dual swords is to go into demon mode, get the meter full, then swap out.

I haven't tested to see what happens but they made it sound like running out of stamina during battle is pretty much a death sentence.

@StrixVaria Yes.
You literally will just stand there for about 5-10 seconds.
Unable to move.

@Wipqozn Switch out of demon mode you mean?

12:43 AM
The same thing happens to monsters when they run out of stamina though.

@Wipqozn So I'll avoid that.

There, answered.
Now, back to monster murder!

I just realized that the reason the current sharpness meter is constantly flashing yellow is probably because that's the max sharpness for my basic starter weapon, and that it can go up from there.
I have to figure out dinner. Then I will go slay jaggis or something probably.

Gobul down. Full Barroth armor get!

Also the dual swords probably burn through sharpness really quick since they attack so fast and get lots of hits in a short time.
I will try another weapon next time.

12:53 AM
For more mobility, try Sword and Shield.
It's fast, and you can string some crazy long combos.

@fbueckert Good job.

1:13 AM
@fbueckert: Feel like killing a Royal Ludroth and Quruepeco?
First peco, then ludroth to be exact.

@Wipqozn Hmm. Two quests, or one?

@fbueckert Two quests. Hunt a peco, then hunt a royal ludroth.

@Wipqozn Ok, yeah. That I can do. I don't have any weapons that both of them would be weak to.

Okay. Making room.
Free Play 3 > Lobby 3 > Arqade/fran

2 hours later…
3:12 AM
One of the first quests in the game: "Go kill these docile water dudes." I go to the water. "Oh, yeah, that's the super-boss guy we told you about chasing you. Try not to die."

11 hours later…
2:39 PM
Kill the Great Jaggi, get back to town. Chief's Son: "Oh yeah, now there's probably going to just be Great Jaggi roaming around btw I need 450 resources."

@StrixVaria Great Jaggis give 150 or 180 resources per kill. Can't recall which.
Did you kill the great JAggi on your first go?

@Wipqozn Yeah.

@StrixVaria Excellent.
IT was a lot harder to do in Tri. you started off with no armour. his hits took off a fuckton of damage in Tri because of it.

I knocked him down at one point and thought he was dead, put my weapon away and approached to start harvesting. Then he ate my face.

@StrixVaria TYL you can knock monsters down.

2:43 PM
Pretty much.
That was the only big mistake.

If you focus on their legs, that will happen after doing enough damage.
So is there any weapon you prefer yet?

I also learned to be a bit more patient with my attacks from that battle.
I still haven't tried them all, but I didn't like lance or longsword.
I used the switch axe against the great jaggi.
That one is pretty awesome.

I love the Switch Axe. It's one of my primary weapons.

I haven't tried any ranged weapons yet because I don't want to have to think about ammo.

@StrixVaria I would strongly suggest not using bowguns. They are really expensive to use (due to ammo), and require a lot more skill and understanding of the game ot use.
You also need to plan your bowgun based on the monster. You can't just take any bowgun willy nilly. You need to be aware of what type of ammo you're taking, and what works best against the monster.
The bow is a lot more beginner friendly if you're interested in ranged weapons.
Well, strongly suggest not using bowguns yet that is. Get more familiar with the game first.

2:48 PM
What do you do if you have a ranged weapon and an enemy gets right in your face?
That's another concern of mine.

@StrixVaria Actually, with ranged weapon you never want to be more than 5 hops away from the monster.
Damage has a huge drop off if you're far away, except with elemental attacks.

3:03 PM
I love the guild sweet heart she's hilarious
> New quests have come in. Hunt a Rathalos, and a Barioth! Each monster deadlier than the last. The guild must really like you! Or want to kill you.

1 hour later…
4:30 PM
@Wipqozn It's hard to tell, sometimes.
"Hey, you know that big monster you just killed? Guess what! We have a bigger one for you to fight, now!"

4:59 PM
@fbueckert Do you feel like hunting a few Royal LudrothS? I need to get some carves.
I want to craft his armour, and get his switch axe.

@Wipqozn Sure!
I'll use my gunlance; get some more practice in.

Sounds like a plan.
I'll make the room.
I'll aim for free play 3 > lobby 3 > arqade/fran
@fbueckert Room made.

5:17 PM
Ugh. I am out of goldenfish bait and need to catch one more goldenfish.

@StrixVaria I don't thinbk I did that quest.

6:15 PM
@Wipqozn It's one of the one-star quests.
Leaving town and getting into a fight with a great jaggi immediately is kind of annoying. Having another great jaggi join the fight a few minutes later is really annoying.

6:29 PM
@fbueckert It says 54 hours, but for a large portion of the weekend I just had the game idling as I pdid homework (since I forgot to turn off the console), so it's probably closer to 40.
Probably about 45 hours of actualy playtime.

In less than a week. This game is hella addicting.

2 hours later…
8:41 PM
I have found that I can make mega potions using herbs, blue mushrooms, and honey. I have also realized that I don't know where to get more honey :(

@StrixVaria Moga Woods.
Those tall "stand" type things give you LOTS of honey.
Alternatively, use your farm.

@fbueckert Moga Woods is still the only place I've ever been, really.
@fbueckert What do you put in to get honey out?

@StrixVaria Honey

That...doesn't make any sort of sense.

You give them whatever item you want them to replicate.

8:48 PM
I've been going to bug patches trying to catch bees :P

@StrixVaria See, now THAT would just make too much sense. :P

I know I found a ton of honey once, but I can't remember what area it was in.

@StrixVaria Try Area 2.
It has about three or four gathering spots, sometimes.

Ok sounds good.

Now I need to farm Gobul, so I can make a set of his armor.

8:51 PM
I've killed 2 more Great Jaggis since the quest one. I can't go to Moga Woods without fighting one now.

@StrixVaria After a while, it'll become old hat.
It'll take you like five whole minutes to kill one.

It looks like it's going to be a while yet before I can even think about upgrading weapons.

@StrixVaria What are you planning on getting?
And/or using?

@fbueckert Uh...
I think I'm going to stick with the switch axe.
I just tried hammer and it was meh.

@StrixVaria Good choice.
It's a ton of fun to use.

8:53 PM
Also, using a whetstone on a hammer and then having it increase to maximum "sharpness" made less sense than using honey to get honey.

@StrixVaria Some hammers have spikes. Presumably, that's what you're sharpening.
Anyways! Time to go introduce Gobul to my firey weapons of doom.

9:20 PM
@fbueckert Did you get your second beak?

@Wipqozn I did!

So are you farming Gobul for carves?

@Wipqozn Indeed.
I think I have time for two more, if you want to join me.

Sounds like a plan.
ACtuallly...
I'm just going to kill some royal ludroths.

@Wipqozn Boo.

9:24 PM
@fbueckert I need quite a few parts from him. Don't really need anything from Gobul.

@Wipqozn Those poor ludroths!
...Actually, ludroths are dicks.

@fbueckert They have it coming./

Kill 'em all.

9:56 PM
I need to hunt a lot of royal ludroths I think. I need a lot of claws.
and I'm having terrible luck at getting them, despire having a high reward chance.

10:09 PM
Got 3 of them that time! woot!
On the bright side, each capture quests gives me 4000z. So even if it takes me quite a few hunts to get all these claws I'll have quite a bit of zen.

Got all the lanterns I need, just need a few more spikes.
And a Monster Bone L.
And then, I have the armor I will fight Lagiacrus with.

@fbueckert Repel Lagi?
Got all the claws for the armor I need, just need some bugs.
I think I will need a couple more for weapons, though. Get my armor crafted first though.

10:52 PM
I need to figure out how the crap to upgrade my weapon next time I play.

@StrixVaria What weapon are you using? Bone Axe?

@Wipqozn Yeah.

You need Monster Fluid for that if I recall correctly, which can be annoying to get. Altaroths (those ant-like things) have a 10% chance of dropping it when the sack on their back is full (and big). They fill it up at gathering nodes. You can carve it from there too, but you either need to poison them or get really luck that they don't just shatter upon death.
Bnahabra (the mosquito's) also drop it, but once again you need to get lucky and not break their body. The ones in the Sandy Plains have higher chance (22%) to drop it than ones in other areas (17%). There is also a quest to kill them, which I think is guaranteed to give you a monster fluid. I'm not sure though. I got one from it.

I got a Monster Fluid from...
I think it was something underwater.
I used it to upgrade the farm, though.
I'm missing all the other materials though.

There is an altaroth quest too. That probably has a chance of giving you monster fluid for completing it.

11:00 PM
Different kinds of ore and stuff.

I can't recall where to get jumbo bone, but the sandy plains is the best place to get the Ore you need.
Oh, wait. You don't need monster fluid. That's only for making it.

Can I hunt in the sandy plains? So far I can only hunt in the forest thing.

@StrixVaria You can, yes. In the 2-stars quests there will be a quest called "Harvest Tour: Sandy PLains". That will let you hunt there. The only goal is to hand in a pass, which spawns in the item box a few minutes after the quest starts.
Those quests just exist so you can harvest.

Can I turn in resources from those?

@StrixVaria Sadly, no. You can convert certain items to resources though.\
OH! There is some DLC out now that will give you 5000 resources. you should download it via the DLC menu.

11:23 PM
Ok my most hated thing now is when you're fighting a great jaggi for 5 minutes and then another one shows up

@StrixVaria Don't worry, that will soon be replaced by fighting a Queropeco and it summons a Great Jaggi.
Also, excellent! With some gems in it this Ludroth (gunner) armor results in my getting +20% increase to all my water attacks.

11:39 PM
The only thing keeping me from fulfilling this villager request is 1 dung. Dung.

@fbueckert I was pinned down by a Rathalos and that second companion freed me. From a Rathalos. He threw a stink bomb or something right in his face. It was awesome.

11:57 PM
..kayamba just killed the rathalos. HE KILLED IT!
First he frees me from the damn thing, and then he finishes him off.
