@stuffe visit, review. yes. active? eh.
My question/answer rate has slowed dramatically since I was elected, but I still do modly duties every day except in extinuating circumstances.
That and bmike keeps sniping my answers I do want to throw into.
(Also, my professional life changed rather dramatically since getting elected, so I have less time to dedicate to hobbies, since my career stepped up in involvement and what not else in a big way.)

@JasonSalaz darn - I should prolly back off on the answers :)
@stuffe Activity is an odd thing. We're not drowning in flags and moderator actions, so having two more people might help balance things if their sleep/wake cycles differ from the US coverage we have presently.
Also - the value of a moderator team is in bouncing ideas and someone who is less active sees and handles things differently than someone that has handled 100s of spam flags or more janitorial clean up. It's nice to be able to ping someone or leave a note asking another moderator to have a look and then come up with a plan together.
Each moderator is of course after a short period, pretty much able to handle most things on their own, but as @Shog9 mentioned earlier, the art of moderation seems to be a mix of collaboration and knowing when to act in many cases.
The system has many great tools to flag things, but experience takes those signals and decides what to watch, what to comment/nudge/encourage/support and what to shut down and clean up immediately.

@bmike I jest, mostly. I only said it because I was working on one sometime yesterday or the day before, and then stopped touching it for like 6 hours. when I had come back, you had answered it in exactly the same way I was going to.
but with that length of time, it's no surprise and I certainly don't blame you at all.

@JasonSalaz Phew - I figured you'd ping me - I actually kind of appreciate when someone writes an answer for me when I'm not able or busy. When the sniping is as I'm working on it, it's less fun.

sniping is inevitable
but it's not like anything on the network can make it easy to target a specific person
shy of two people both sitting at the top of the newest/updated questions
but there's no fault there.

@emil Thanks for throwing your hat in the ring. I wanted you to see we had a chat room for the election - there will be more formal chats organized by the "Stack" employees, but I just wanted to welcome you here as well.

10:10 PM
@bmike Thanks! Interesting :)

What are the main challenges a moderator will have to face on a day to day basis?
