Is there any time obligation with being a mod?

@bassplayer7 Gonna need at least a little bit of time, if you're to accomplish anything useful. Shouldn't need to be a huge time-sink, but if you're not accustomed to visiting AD regularly then it's probably not a good idea to run.

@Shog9, That's what I figured. I'm a couple days away from my Fanatic badge so I'm used to hanging around quite a bit.

@bassplayer7 IMHO, if you're already accustom to editing, closing, re-opening, and using the 10K tools, you won't have any problems moderating. If you don't regularly use those things, you'll have to learn - not just how to use them, but when to use them - and that'll take more effort from you.

More importantly, if you're not already devoting time to moderate the site, volunteering to spend more time moderating the site doesn't make a lot of sense.

Makes sense. I'm only at 5K rep, so I don't have the full 10K mod tools. But I have done my share of voting on closing/re-opening, editing, etc.

@Shog9, In fact, right now a good portion of my time goes to moderating.

@bassplayer7 Being a moderator certainly requires a commitment to be present and active in shaping the site. Are there office hours? No, but at times, you could easily spend an hour or two cleaning up a few messes if the others are asleep / vacationing / offline.

I was keen last year, and pitched a good (imho) speech, but recently I just don't have the time I feel necessary to do a proper job, so I'm not going to join in the fun this year.

@stuffe Our average flag response time is under an hour many days. The workload is already divided pretty thin, so don't stress too much about the time commitment. The biggest thing we need, IMO, is a moderator who lives in a time zone where they're awake when the current moderators (all US-based) are asleep. Given that you're an active participant in the community, not crazy, and British, I'd love it if you reconsidered. That said, if you can't do it now, don't add stress to your life.

I'd love to take part, but first and foremost a Mod has to be an active user like everyone else, and you can see my stats for answering questions doesn't pass muster, although popping into Chat of an evening might make me seem more active than I really am at present.

@bassplayer7 learning the mod tools is easy. I had never seen them before when I became a moderator.
