Important: Please don't vote for me, I really don't want to come out of this with a responsibility I'm not going to be wholehearted in. If you've already voted for me, it's not to late to change your vote, please do so!
I have a vague fear as the clock ticks down that I'm going to get saddled with it as a half-way measure between None of the above and the more interested candidates. Maybe I'm just being silly. But not withdrawing when I had the chance was silly.

2 hours later…
3:41 PM
No matter what happens - we have means and procedures to handle things if an elected moderator no longer has time / desire to serve.
Thanks for the clear communication, though.

4:12 PM
@Caleb If I recall correctly, you do have the opportunity to decline to serve if elected.

@Caleb Although it's a PitA (compared to, say, removing yourself last week before voting started), I can withdraw you when calculating the results.

4:47 PM
@Shog9 Yay for input from someone who actually has facts rather than those of us just making things up!

5:41 PM
@Shog9 Ya well, the fact that we skipped the primaries phase and that there wouldn't be a chance to withdraw by the time THC happened were details I failed to note in time. If you run the election math and for some reason my name comes out on top, please do ping me up.

5:53 PM
@DanielLawson There've been several elections where an "elected" mod declines to jump in and the staff (SE that is) usually decides to run with what they had or appoint one of the candidates or appoint anyone of their choosing.

Well, the nice thing about STV is that with multiple votes you're not "throwing away" anyone's input if someone drops out. Of course, you can run into scenarios where this still falls apart (not enough votes, not enough candidates, etc), but we're usually good with just picking the next person down the list.
(If we ever end up with candiates <= positions in an election, we'd just have to cancel the whole thing; it's pretty much a joke at that point)

6:29 PM
one hour left

jrg
the suspense is killing me, too bad i won't be able to get the results when they come in.
stupid schedules.

I will get the results and then go eat.

jrg
and then text them to me? ;)

I will miss the results, and not be back for 3 hours or so.

jrg
oh, man, that's rough.
it's worse when you are running. :P
see, i'm just interested in what the new faces i'll be able to dump flags on.

6:35 PM
@jrg I would be happy to do that.
AND I KEEP FORGETTING THERE ARE ONLY 2 POSITIONS

jrg
@JasonSalaz oh, i was joking.

SGKJREIGPJERIOPGJ
Well, I wasn't. But ok.

jrg
i do have someone doing that for the AU election, but that's more because I have a insane curiosity and direct involvement.
here it's more "oh, i'll wait."

I see how it is.

6:40 PM
now I'm worried that I'll be trolled :(

jrg
well, i do forget about timezones.

eh? whassis about timezones?

7:08 PM
lol
the newsletter came out just as the election ended
oh, no, there's still an hour. never mind

7:54 PM
217 votes...
5 minutes to go

That seems like a very nice amount of votes.
I'm looking forward to getting the right two people elected. And with 217 people having a say-so, I think that will happen.

2 minutes omgijgiejiojawdioj
I will say, that historically speaking, votes usually follow rep to a tee
we're into seconds

That's what I would think.

Winners are Ian C. and patrix.

Super!

Whew. <wipes brow>

@patrix really nailed it. Kind of winning 1st and second place. Great work @patrix!

Congratulations @patrix and @Ianc, and the whole AD community on two great new moderators.

well, I was right. election followed rep
however 2nd above 1st by rep, interestingly enough.

Wow - I was sure to be disappointed since I wanted more than 2 of you to win.

8:07 PM
heh

Wow - it was close total votes for Ian and Stuffe and those that voted for Patrix swung their second choices to Ian. Is that the correct interpretation of the results.

@JasonSalaz Actually it didn't. And there were major issues that coincidentally paralleled rep. Age and/or not being very serious nominations. It would be hard to say results followed rep from an election like this when the only two that were moderately comparable actually went the reverse of rep.

all I mean is that the top two candidates by rep were elected
in reverse order given the MeekSTV method, but still, the top two

Wow - this visualization is great.
What a close race for the second moderator position. My earlier summary was off - all other candidates needed to be eliminated before the race could be called between @stuffe and Ianc

8:27 PM
@bmike Yes, very nice indeed. Interesting race.
And amusingly, "I'd make a good moderator but please don't vote for me" beats out "I won't moderate at all, please vote for me". By one vote.

Thanks to all, I'm kind of surprised honestly

@patrix likewise. I voted for you! :)
@bmike that is pretty cool. Took a second to grok what it was showing, but the notes on each stage clear it up nicely.
Good race everyone!

9:03 PM
@IanC. Yes - good race indeed.

what the heck. why does bmike have 236 rep
much better
(I refreshed)

I just got locked out of the TL
Perhaps there's a coup afoot?
(JK)

@bmike Change your chat parent user.

@Caleb Yup - that's off for some bizarro reason

The chat server always screws up people's accounts after they add new mods. And some days when it rains. And sometimes just because it gets lonely.

9:14 PM
lol

… just because ...

9:45 PM
@IanC. and @patrix, @jrg says congratulations.

jrg
10:32 PM
congrats everyone!

1 hour later…
11:46 PM
So what's the story? Are we saying I shouldn't have voted for @IanC? ;)
Congrats to the winners, for whom I both voted for :)

@stuffe nice - it was so close

I'll check the voting later.
