is there any way to see total SE rep?
user profile abbreviates it to 2 sigfigs
adding up the totals also seems to give different results

@uhoh IMO your question would be perfectly on topic here and in fact is a pretty model question for Physics SE.
They might also consider it on topic at Math, I'm not sure. If they do, I guess it's up to you which site you want to post it on (assuming, that is, that you're able to delete the Math version should you want to do so).

Q: Would the Poynting–Robertson effect ever be faster than a solar sail from a 1 AU orbit to the Sun?

uhohIn this answer to Do you need 0 km/s velocity to crash into the sun? I mention solar sails for retrograde thrust and the Poynting–Robertson as two ways an object could ever-so-slowly spiral into the Sun. Using known materials with modest extrapolations (like they do for solar sails) and ignoring...

this is asked in Space Exploration SE but someone here may find it fun

Do they just keep changing the wording in the flagging box or what? I swear like a week ago there was a "Should be closed" option; but now it just says "Needs improvement". It's like they are purposefully making the options more obscure.

a day before I posted a question related to meta-question before I explain what a ease in homework policy as many users take this as low-quality questions which are school doing homework , what I meant was that we should be some lenient towards the question
lenient in the sense , that we help the question which is somewhat related to understanding the physics and bit of editing and making the user understand the site policy will purely benefit them ,as well as the site.
secondly, fluid mechanics was just an example it is applicable to all kind of tag
who is getting some repeated duplicate questions on the main site, we can change our policy for them, applying more strictness to them .secondly someone told me that we do not want our site to be like math stack exchange, what I meant by ''we will achieve wht we dersreve like math.stackexchange'' i meant soon we would have more user who were good at some more topics of physics which are currently underatted
i have no intention to all crap homework type questions on our site ,it just that we should collectively work for all those tag
I feel like it is the moderator who has not fulfilled his duty on this topic , the closing question will not move our site ahead

1:26 PM
@YuvrajSingh... hi bhai....

@abhas_RewCie hi

@YuvrajSingh... kkrh?

@YuvrajSingh... As I mentioned in my answer, the rules apply the same to every question regardless of tags. Why should we change the rules depending on the topic, just to get more attention on that topic? The popular topics are the ones people want to ask and answer, I don't see why we should try to artificially influence that. How does it help us to have questions more spread out over topics? Why not just let it naturally work itself out.

problem is physics is not limited to one topic @JMac
@abhas_RewCie hi
we call our site physics stack exchange

@YuvrajSingh... kkrh?

1:29 PM
@abhas_RewCie yeh log nahi samaj rahe yaar

@YuvrajSingh... No one is limiting it to one topic. If people are asking more good questions about some topics, why should we try to change that? It just shows where the general interest lies. I don't see why we should try to artificially influence that.

@JMac wait sooner this topic will get old

@YuvrajSingh... Keep editing your questions.

there would be the day when the current topic would be lost

@YuvrajSingh... Which question/topic?

1:32 PM
new theories and branches outshine the old theories and field
@JMac I do not know why can't we have a policy which is on a temporary basis for the topics like that
there is no harm to anyone , and as I said we won't be lenient to allow crap
I want an answer from each community member on this ,two-three members can't become the voice of the whole site that's what i feel!

1:50 PM
@YuvrajSingh... Other members voted on the question and answers, not everyone is going to post their own answer. Given that the question is +1/-11, Emilio's answer is +9/-0 and mine is +6/-0, it seems like it's fairly clear what the community is thinking. Again, how do we benefit from this? Why do we need more questions in those tags at the expense of relaxing rules? I see no good reason a less popular tag deserves special treatment due to popularity.

@JMac well said.

@JMac I'm pretty sure the "needs improvement" come with the rest of the flag dialog changes, it's not newer
But I'm also not a fan

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61632488/

I don't know if its rude to forward this link here,but I really don't know whether it is a physics question or a computer one.This didn't get much attention on that site,because with all due respect,maybe the members of that site are more interested in other problems,and maybe my question was not well phrased or something else.
Reason for not posting on the main physics stackexchange site--Maybe people wont be interested in seeing such a big code,and maybe the error is just in a few purely computer issues-How will I Know?

Well that was pretty cool. The snowbirds just flew right over where I was working and did a lap.

4:45 PM
@YuvrajSingh... If two or three members cannot be the voice of the whole site, what about a single user then? You have gained no support in your idea, yet you keep pushing for it.

user434058
Should I "Recommend Deletion" for wrong answers

@YuvrajSingh... So essentially you are proposing that we should aim for every single tag / topic to have the same number of questions and answers on PSE?

@FakeMod Not if being wrong is the only thing that's wrong with them.

Going the other way, should we be more strict on the tags that are more popular to help level it all out?

Wrong answers that are nevertheless honest attempts to answer the question should be downvoted, but not deleted

user434058
What should I have done there?☝️

(by others, that is. If the author deletes it after it's pointed out that it's wrong all is fine, too)
@FakeMod Skip it if you're not sure
that's what the 'skip' button is for

user434058
@ACuriousMind I was sure, but seems like I wasn't correct...

user434058
Because everyone who reviewed it after me, recommended to delete it.

user434058
So was I wrong?

4:51 PM
@FakeMod If you didn't think it needed to be deleted then that is fine
That is why its not up to a single user
Sometimes people will disagree on things like this

@FakeMod I'm pretty sure they didn't vote to delete it because it was wrong, but because listing random experimental result related to QFT has nothing whatsoever to do with 'quantum measurement', as the comment indicates. That's is, it's not an answer, not just wrong.

user434058
@AaronStevens But I suppose it would be better that I think like the community wnts me to think while reviewing, and community wants that deleted. It's subjective, but I am not really sure whether I am being too lenient.

user434058
@ACuriousMind Oh I see. So I suppose it's better to skip the stuff that I don't know about rather than applying generic rules everywhere.

@FakeMod In line with what ACM just said, there isn't really a way to know why they voted to have it deleted. There could be other reasons besides correctness at play here.

user434058
@AaronStevens Hmm... I see.

user434058
5:20 PM
Ooh! I earned 69 rep today, nice Nevermind ;)

5:37 PM
@FakeMod FWIW personally I agree with you about not deleting that answer, although on the other hand it's not adding much value to the question either so I'm not too distressed to see it go.

6:26 PM
@FakeMod, Hi

user434058
@DavidZ Hmm... I just feel too reluctant to recommend deletion as long as it's nothing more bluff/gibberish... Anyways thanks for sharing your view :)

user434058
@Krishna Hi :)

Just asking. How exactly do we enter chat from the main site
Well, I always had to go to my privilages tab and go from there, but an easier way must exist.

user434058
How about you click the "Chat" link at the top of SO and every SE site? Don't click it here, unless you want to go to the meta.stackoverflow.com chat. — Joachim Sauer Oct 24 '11 at 11:32

user434058
I am sorry but I can't find any picture anywhere and I am too lazy to create one :)

6:30 PM
Thanks

user434058

OK,its midnight here in India. So I've gotto go

user434058
@Krishna Here you go

And thanks again

user434058
@Krishna Bro, I am from India :D

6:31 PM
Really? That's strange

user434058
Hey @Qmechanic, nice to see you here, what's up? :)

@Fakemod, What do you do?

user434058
@Krishna I prepare for JEE :) I am a 12 th grader.

Oh, me for NEET. But still, JEE physics is interesting, at least.

user434058
@Krishna yes it is :)

6:35 PM
My maths (abstract) is plain horrible.
But, at least, my physics is better (thanks to family)

user434058
@Krishna Well, it doesn't matter for now, does it?

user434058
@Krishna That is needed.

Why not?
What is needed?

user434058
@Krishna I wouldn't care if I was terrible at Biology, so I am extending the same thing but from your side

user434058
@Krishna Physics is needed for cracking NEET, Maths isn't.

6:38 PM
Nah, I use lagrangian to solve SHM problems (always). ;-P. My math isn't that bad
I just hate doing abstract math. Seems dull and lifeless. (IMO)

user434058
@Krishna No perturbation methods are nicer.

user434058
@Krishna For eg.

user434058
Anyways, I need to leave now. Gotta evaluate some integrals ;)

Well, I learnt lagrangian because my father had nothing else to do
Ok, bye.

@FakeMod I will like to learn more about you,contact you.(P.s.I am from India too).

Not sure why trivial edits of old posts by this user are getting approved

@AaronStevens I mentioned yesterday that looking at the approved edits lately has been frustrating to me. A lot of stuff getting approved has me scratching my head.

@JMac I am usually fine with trivial edits on posts that are a couple of hours old. But for posts that are years old? What is the point?

@AaronStevens lots of reputation farmers trying to eke out a few more rep points. This is now a curse as irritating to homework questions, all the more irritating as these are somewhat more engaged users - engage enough to suggest edits.

@ZeroTheHero Yeah but you don't get rep points from approving these edits
Do you?

@AaronStevens Several yesterday were on posts closed for 5+ days, only editing mathjax, which would have added them to reopen queue and bumped them for basically nothing.

10:14 PM
I don’t think so
boggles the mind why so many trivial edits make it through.
some sort of conga line I suppose...
you approve mine I’ll approve yours...

The one I linked to looks like a relatively new user to the edits queue
That has approved it
But I am seeing some fairly experienced users approving them also
So I am not sure

There was one yesterday that thankfully was rejected, but it had one approve vote, was a mathjax edit to a week closed question, and the edit completely changed two of the values. I'm pretty sure you caught that one too Aaron.

@JMac Yeah I am all for oppression so nothing gets by me

Stay strong brother. Together we can grind this "scientific progress" monstrosity to a stop.

@JMac And due to recent events I have now added new goal: To make sure there are staggering differences between the attention of various tags

10:30 PM
@AaronStevens I didn't want to kickstart the progress that came along with balanced tags, that's why I made sure to answer that meta question.
We're like a black hole of sarcasm on this chat. The conversations seem to devolve so fast lol

Yeah... it's a problem
