12:24 AM
The fuck
someone just +1 all my answers on SO

12:58 AM
You have a fan!
Unfortunately the voting abuse script will notice that within about one day and roll all the votes back.

@dmckee Really? Well that's a shame
That it'll rollback, not that I have a fan :p

@BernardMeurer Well, the parameters of the script are a closely guarded secret, but I assume that will trip it.

@dmckee I can´t complain tho, it is unfair I got those points when they didn't fundamentally come from someone I actually helped but rather some beginner who got flattered I gave a fine answer and decided to like everything

user54412
1:16 AM
I'm now learning that downvotes on my answers tend to correlate with me saying something like "many people will tell you otherwise, but here's the truth..."

user54412
I suppose this shouldn't be surprising

@ChrisWhite The 'many people' get rather angry don't they?

2:08 AM
anybody here
hello

No. Were're all figments of a deranged imagination. Hopefully yours.
But possibly Daniel Sank's, depending on who you ask.

I'm pretty sure I'm just part of Daniel's imagination yeah

is it it possible to make energy from quantum field.

Depends what you mean by "make".

an energy source

2:20 AM
All our quantum theories obey Noether's theorem and exhibit time-translational symmetry, so they all obey the conservation of energy.
There is still no free lunch.
On the other hand, there are several quantum effects that allow you to covert energy from one form into another.

which are they?

And be sure to examine the efficiency numbers for them before you get too excited. There is a reason they aren't used in many applications.

If it sounds really cool it's probably wasteful

What's up peeps

s=((1-zT)1/2-1)/(ST)
explain

2:31 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP nope.
I have no clue what that is and don't care

@NihalJalaluddinP You should learn how to ask a question bloody properly

okk
sorry
next question

It's not the question, it's how you ask it

Damn!
I can't help if that I say interesting things!

what is a domain and range in trignometric graphs

2:35 AM
There @0celo7

@BernardMeurer huh?

Where's my Belfie? Did you like my Trumpfie?

@BernardMeurer You're not getting a Belfie.

Mb get Michelle to take one if you're so desperate

2:37 AM
@0celo7 Why not dood?
Tsc, she would you know why?

Because I don't want to
@BernardMeurer because she like stupid things like selfies?

She's everything you never were to me ;-;
y u do dis

because i don't love you.

Oh no you didn't just say that
I devoted my life to you!
How could you?!

easy
ACM taught me
you just reject the other person

2:40 AM
I'd make a good mexican novelist IMO

@BernardMeurer huh?

huh²?

I was doing something

Define something

ah!

2:46 AM
@0celo7 huh?

@BernardMeurer does "preimage of a compact set is compact" imply "preimage of a noncompact set is noncompact"?

@0celo7 I think so
if a implies b then non a implies non b
unless the compactness of the preimage is non-dependent on the state of the set

But non b doesn't imply non a.

@dmckee True that, not sure then

@dmckee huh?

2:51 AM
@0celo7 a->b doesn't mean b->a, thus non a->non b doesn't imply non b->non a

yes, but what does that have to do with topology?

Nothing, I was trying to answer your question using causational logic

@0celo7 Damn all as far as I know. I only meant to point out that there was still some ambiguity in the situations.

2:53 AM
@dmckee huh?

Nothing. Just nothing. So I'll talk about rock instead.
I always knew that Distrubed rocked, but then I heard

@dmckee Hahahaha

and learned that they are musically sophisticated as well.

Damn, I was hoping you meant rock as in minerology

wtf this is not music room

2:55 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP At times this is a video game room. Other times it is a music room.
Sometimes it's a call dmckee "old" room.

@NihalJalaluddinP Will you stop being obnoxious?

Feel free to interject physics at any time.

@dmckee at least you're not annav old

i came here to know about physics not music

@NihalJalaluddinP Then physics away

2:56 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP But is that our problem?

@dmckee I think "topology and geometry room" is more prevalent than vidya

@dmckee Don'tbe hurt, everyone is old to me :p

@BernardMeurer u a kid

@0celo7 Does she actually show up in chat much? Can't recall seeing her here.

@dmckee no

2:57 AM
True, never talked to her here

but she's like 80

She's another physics monstah

meh
her answers never have enough math for my tastes

@BernardMeurer She lived through some very exciting times in particle physics.

2:58 AM
who is she

@dmckee Damn how old is she?
@NihalJalaluddinP A member, annav, google it

@BernardMeurer I don't know exactly. At least 10 years my senior. But it doesn't do to ask, now does it?

why google?

@NihalJalaluddinP You want to know who she is, might as well search before you ask someone

@NihalJalaluddinP because we don't want to tell you
we're mean like that

2:59 AM
@dmckee True, how old are you like, 40? :p

Not for years.

@0celo7 where do you live?
4
no stupid answers

Holy crap

@NihalJalaluddinP North America

3:00 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP He's Canadian

@BernardMeurer to figure out his age, just find his CV and reverse engineer the BS graduation date

Eh @0celo7?

what abt you
bernard

@NihalJalaluddinP Google me ;)

@NihalJalaluddinP Germany, obviously

3:01 AM
google

@BernardMeurer Pretty cool stuff.

@dmckee Right? They also have this amazing thing youtube.com/watch?v=IvUU8joBb1Q
Why what @NihalJalaluddinP?

@BernardMeurer why google?

@NihalJalaluddinP Want to know then google it

3:04 AM
how many of you know sachin tendulkar?

I dont

how many of you know cricket?

The sport?

I know it

3:07 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP Know of it. Know that the commonwealth includes people who are batty (get it?) about it.

@dmckee didnt get it
bye

user116211
@BernardMeurer: Got any advice?

@user36790 They told me to wait, so I'll just wait
And try and black magic my way into getting accepted to UPenn

user116211
@BernardMeurer okayish

user116211
@BernardMeurer hehehe

3:11 AM
Ask my grandma to pray for it or something, that should do it

user116211
@BernardMeurer well, I would pray for you also but I know no voodoo.

I'll teach you, get a goat, kill the goat, burn the goat and dance around it while screaming your wish in the meantime
easy

user116211
@BernardMeurer errr....... censored

user116211
I'm veggie and quite a haemophobic,

user116211
In bio lab, I got blank when I had to cut open guinea pig, let alone goat.

3:16 AM
@user36790 I'm en-route to becoming a bacon

user116211
@BernardMeurer oi!

@user36790 Oi/
?

user116211
@BernardMeurer old UK punk rock band

Also 'hi' in portuguese

lets talk physics

user116211
3:20 AM
@NihalJalaluddinP everything is physiks

@user36790 i dont think so

@NihalJalaluddinP No, in fact let's talk absolute bulshit; jd mdje edjd meoidkd mef?

user116211
@BernardMeurer Black magic is prohibited by EPR paradox.

@BernardMeurer djdkdfhvbfdhvldafvm/a\

user116211
@BernardMeurer ylperyttiw

3:22 AM
Shouldn't have done that

user116211
@BernardMeurer: ignore....

3:56 AM
@ChrisWhite Can you tell me about the Kuper Cliff?

user54412
Poor guy. First he tries to answer a classical physics question with classical physics, and everyone jumps on him and says "but that's not quantum enough." Then he gets confused and asks about this, only to again be shot down with "but relativity doesn't work that way." I want to ping that guy to tell him "don't worry, you're right, and all those other people are being fools."

user54412
(above links only work for 10k)

user54412
@BernardMeurer Kuiper?

Yeah someone mentioned it at the bus the other day
dunno, just heard Kuiper Cliff

user54412
you frequent more interesting bus stops than me

user54412
4:02 AM
well, I never heard the term before, but wiki tells me it's the fact that the Kuiper belt doesn't extend very far outward

user54412
I guess people were surprised by this?

user54412
as someone who doesn't study the solar system, it doesn't seem too shocking to me

@ChrisWhite I don't know they were Physics students sitting next to me and I just overheard that name

user54412
I mean, whenever we have slow inward migration of planet-like bodies, my understanding is they tend to pile up at resonances.

maybe it's because it's listed as an unsolved problem

user54412
4:05 AM
Oh hey, my thesis is all about the first problem listed :)

@ChrisWhite What was your conclusion? :p

user54412
@BernardMeurer It's complicated :p

user54412
some of those are better mysteries than others

@ChrisWhite Figures

user54412
accretion jets and supernovae -- they're like curing cancer, in that we're not going to have a single simple "answer" but rather just a whole body of literature in the end

user54412
4:08 AM
wtf is space roar?

I once considering going for astrophysics

user116211
@ChrisWhite: wanna ask about holes in band theory....

Space Roar: The sounds your stomach does when you're really hungry
@user36790 I want to ask about holes in my heart cause by young scandinavian women

user54412
I wish wikipedia had a decent diff interface

user54412
Is there an equivalent of git blame that I'm just not seeing?

user116211
4:10 AM
Are the holes left behind the electrons when they go to conduction band occupied by the electrons of the valence band?

Wikipedia could just use markdown

@ChrisWhite When we talked about the Kuiper belt in connection with an Astronomy question a couple of months ago I did some reading.
The cut off seems to coincide with the 2:1 resonance with Neptune.
No idea why there isn't more Kuiper belt after you get outside the range where that resonance dominates.

user54412
Maybe we can blame Planet IX then ;)

user54412
The mysterious my department likes to discuss these days are Planet IX and fast radio bursts.

user54412
I can't at all understand why FRBs are that exciting, but they've gotten more discussion than gravitational waves here.

4:20 AM
Let's just blame it all on Neptune

user116211
All heard about Trump's mess yesterday?

No, but it's Neptune's fault

user116211
He alleged it was all due to Sanders' supporters.

What?

user54412
Neptune supports Sanders. Commie planet.

user54412
Actually, that whole article is pretty bad.

user54412
They list plenty of things that aren't actually problems, and they list as "solved" things that are still open questions.

4:35 AM
Being with you guys for the past couple of months taught me that Scientist can agree on many things, but what they can agree on is not one of them

woah!! i earned 1225 reputation///
all of sudden!

@DeNiSkA You get +100 on every site once you pass 200 rep on one site
That's why

@BernardMeurer this seems dam logical!

user116211
@ChrisWhite Any one can write, edit wiki articles.

@DeNiSkA It means they trust you on all sites

4:40 AM
@BernardMeurer but last time when my reputation was 16 on Physics SE i couldn't answer any question lol!!!
the reason is i have deleted 5 answers

@DeNiSkA That makes sense tho

@BernardMeurer yeah!
well are you going to do course in programming or physics

@DeNiSkA Computer engineering

i see!

or Computer sciences depending on where I pass

user116211
4:43 AM
@DeNiSkA: Don't post HW questions; Don't ask too many questions in a single post; don't expect discussion - it's Q&A site, not any forum; don't abuse your privileges- especially downvotes; never use it for avenging or any wrong things; be decent and gentle........that's what trust means at SE, IMO.

you know SQL and c++

user116211
Also, don't post link-only answers.....

user116211
@BernardMeurer Heard of computer science but not that.

@DeNiSkA Both, yeah

@user36790 i didn't know deleting answers will affect my account at that time!

4:45 AM
@user36790 Computer engineering focuses more on hardware over software

@BernardMeurer that's cool

user116211
@BernardMeurer googled it.

It's prettymuch the midway between electronic engineering and computer sciences
@user36790 That's why I like you ;)

user116211
@BernardMeurer ;)

@DeNiSkA Why do you ask?

user116211
4:46 AM
@BernardMeurer: Young Scandinavian teens?

@user36790 Young scandinavian women :p

@BernardMeurer because i am studying C++ now and SQL i will!
so if i get any question i will ask you!

user116211
@DeNiSkA: You are studying CS?

@DeNiSkA Which version of SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite?
What are you using to study C++?
And sure, I'm glad to help with what I can. I'm more of a Python guy tho

@BernardMeurer i study on internet , and MYSQL is the version
@user36790 yes i do!

4:49 AM
@DeNiSkA Yeah I learned MySQL first, but don't be fooled tho MySQL is a piece of crap. PostgreSQL and SQLite are so much better

i see!

Damn I gave a damn nice answer the other day and it didn't get accepted

@BernardMeurer well i got website for C++ but didn't get for SQL. How did you study?

@DeNiSkA I bought C++ All In One For Dummies and C++ in a nutshell, recommend both
And I already had a pretty solid base of pure C

user116211
@BernardMeurer god-gifted.

4:54 AM
oh! i see
@user36790 are you a college going student,aren't you?

@user36790 What?

user116211
@DeNiSkA No! I'm giving my 12th. If Almighty wants, I might get admitted to a UG degree in a good college.

user116211
2 mins ago, by Bernard Meurer
And I already had a pretty solid base of pure C

user116211
^ @BernardMeurer You knew it from birth.

@user36790 you are a south indian?

4:57 AM
No no hahaha, I wish! I had to work my ass to learn C

user116211
@DeNiSkA East- Bengal.

started studying C when I was 12 or so

@user36790 i guess you are aiming for IIT

user116211
@DeNiSkA This is implicit- everyone aspires for it.

user116211
However, I'm aspiring more for getting admitted at NISER.

user116211
4:59 AM
Also, IISER.

well i am dreaming of IISc

user116211
@DeNiSkA Execute the dream ;P

user116211
@DeNiSkA KVPY?

yes!! level 2. gave interveiw 2 months ago

user116211
@DeNiSkA Then you have executed! Congratulations!

5:01 AM
@user36790 if i get rank below 300 then only i can!

user116211
@DeNiSkA: What do you want to study?

user116211
@DeNiSkA thumbs up; be positive.

astronomy + physics

user116211
@DeNiSkA I want to pursue physics too.

Aka. Astrophysics?

5:03 AM
@user36790 but unfortunately scope is too low

user116211
@BernardMeurer there is difference between astrophysics and astronomy.

But astronomy + physics = astrophysics no?

user116211
3
Q: Differences between astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology?

YhoaWhat is the main difference between Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Cosmology? I have the impression that astronomy is a subject that runs parallel to physics but it is outside the physics field. This is based on the division of departments present in many universities: the department of physics b...

user116211
@BernardMeurer: ^

user116211
> students of astronomy focus on classical mechanics and optical methods to be able to observe celestial bodies. Astrophysicists concern general relativity and nuclear physics as two important tools to describe stars or galaxies.

5:06 AM
I see your point, yeah, you're right

user116211
@BernardMeurer I'm always right ;)

that @NihalJalaluddinP is quite funny

user116211
@DeNiSkA Have ignored him.

5:07 AM
don't do that he is funny!

user116211
@DeNiSkA He is new to the chat; that would let him acclimatise;

@DeNiSkA He's not. he's intrusive and unpolite, I like neither

user116211
he posts anything; nonsense.....

@BernardMeurer @user36790 agreed.
ACM is really angry i think

@DeNiSkA ACM has to deal with a lot of people pestering him because he's very throughout in his knowledge
All things considered I see ACM as a Buddha

user116211
5:11 AM
@DeNiSkA He is funny, helps others; but he hates when everyone asks every question pinging him.

user116211
@BernardMeurer I consider him AI.

Yo @user507974

hey

user116211
@user507974: o/

5:12 AM
well i made ACM angry with my exclamation marks

up from a good nap, time to study statistical mechanics

user116211
@user507974 Yes, I've spent a month reading Reif.

@user507974 Still waiting to hear from UPenn and Cornell :/

and by that i mean kinda try to redo 8 15 hr hw assignments again

And Berkeley

user116211
5:13 AM
@user507974 oh;...

in 2 days

user116211
@BernardMeurer UPenn- Trump?

@BernardMeurer so that means you've gotten word from the others?

@user507974 UIUC - Denied, UC Davis - Denied, GA Tech - Waitlist, UCSD - Accepted
So far that's it

user116211
@BernardMeurer: wait for Berkeley.

5:15 AM
@user36790 Can't afford Berkeley anyway

@BernardMeurer thats 7 out of 9 i think
@BernardMeurer rent is pretty ridiculous up there

user116211
@BernardMeurer: CalTech?

@user507974 Pending: UCB, Cornell, UPenn, Waterloo, NCState, VA Tech, Minnesota

@BernardMeurer was ucsb in there

@user36790 Didn't apply there, didn't think I stood a chance
@user507974 I was pretty sure it was, but it seems like I didn't apply there

5:17 AM
@BernardMeurer but berkeley?

met DSank a bit too late
I was like, sure I had applied to UCSB
@user507974 What's with Berkeley?

@BernardMeurer thats pretty funny in a kinda sad way. You litterally were a tick mark off from applying to an extra school
@BernardMeurer for a sec i thought you were saying you thought you wouldnt get into sb

The thing is, by the time I was filing my UC apps I was so burned out I didn't even consider the ones I applied to right
I really regret how I allowed myself to degrade during the application process, I was so exhausted at the end
@user507974 Right now I don't think I'll get into any of my pending ones apart from Minnesota
and NC State maybe

@BernardMeurer That kind of thing is grueling. Job hunting is like that too. It should be simple, but it is frustrating and emotionally draining to a point that each application feels like a labor of Hercules.
And so much of that is unnecessary.

@dmckee I just couldn't help it you know, when I sent in my last app I just realized that I had basically not left home in a month and a half apart from going to class in the morning

user116211
5:27 AM
@BernardMeurer Are you a Pacifist?

@user36790 Not particularly, why?

user116211
@BernardMeurer Because you seem to be indifferent of the pending lists....

user116211
Be positive and you would get admitted to a good college.

That's due to me being Schopenhaurian
Hope is the confusion of the desire for a thing with its probability

user116211
@BernardMeurer hats off.

5:31 AM
@user36790 Schopenhauer said that, not me tho :p
That's from psychological observations I think

How do u spent these much time in chat
.
?

why? you also spend

user116211
@DeNiSkA Well reply (to what?)

user116211
Oh! saw it.

haha

5:34 AM
@0celo7 Go sleep

the funny guy!

user116211
@DeNiSkA: XI?

I'll be off to bed now, goodnight everyone

user116211
@BernardMeurer bye zzzz

It's time to sleep there?
@DeNiSkA I have exams mannn
It's 11.15 here
Don't go to sleep 😭😫
