It looks like YouTube videos upload fine on questions, albeit not through the normal embedding process I expected. (But that makes sense; we don't edit posts with HTML, unless my awful programming skills are betraying me.)

hmmm I've never paid enough attention to really notice, although I'm aware of a bunch of "shortcuts" (in the sense of automatically forming links / etc.) that I've never taken advantage of.

That would be odd if questions weren't permitted though (unless there's some additional mark-up thing I'm not aware of), since I could imagine some cases where being able to embed some video might help.

@ton.yeung: it wouldn't be surprising for there to be some site-specific things though -- e.g. MathJAX doesn't work here; I'm aware of some Hebrew keyboard thing on Judaism.SE that would be useless in, idk, Chinese.SE, etc.

True true. My need for videos to answers about NetHack is rather non-obvious by comparison.

@ton.yeung YouTube embedding is available only on some sites; ours isn't one of them.

If you think it'd be useful to have it enabled here, feel free to post a meta question with some examples of posts where it'd be helpful.

Personally, I don't see the need.

Here's what appears to be a list of sites that have YouTube embedding on: meta.stackexchange.com/a/104189. Dunno if it's up-to-date or not, though. Information about site-specific flags like this isn't available to mods either, so these lists have to be constructed by trial-and-error.

Hmmm . . . I don't see enough need for it, although maybe that's also because I'm generally fine with just providing a description of scenes with things like "around four minutes in" or the such.

Q: Can we get embedded YouTube videos?

Arqade and Scifi both allow embedding YouTube videos by posting the URL on its own line. I think there is use here for this as well, as long as the moderators and high rep users police the content and make sure it's relevant (which is no different from embedded images). Given that anime is a vide...

@ton.yeung I disagree. It makes no sense to let the asker choose who the "winner" is, since they're often the least informed person involved in the question.

Because they don't know what the right answer is. That's why they asked the question.

SE already has voting, and the highest voted answer really ought to be the winner.

If accepts should count for anything, it should be +1.5 votes, the same they count for in rep. Not this +∞ nonsense.

Honestly, if it were up to me, the OP of a question ought to be disallowed from voting entirely, since they're also often among the most biased.

@ton.yeung From the perspective of an answerer, there is no interesting questions these day, since people just ask to do stuffs which can be resolved with a little googling, or even search on SO

In my limited experience, few of the truly bad people on SO are interested in improving. The ones who are generally can get some help from the mods and high rep users.

I try my hardest not to deal with programmers.

@ton.yeung The reason why it's there is because in the early days Jeff basically thought SO was going to be a site where people solve your problems, and the OP could presumably check that their problem was solved easily. Only much later did they realize that basically causes help-vampires to spawn indefinitely, and there are far more help vampires (at least when it comes to programming) than there are people who want to help them.

Most SE sites deal with much more factually-based objective information, in which case it makes little to no sense to empower the OP to pick their favorite answer and pin it on top of the question as if it's correct. These sites also tend to avoid a lot of the problems SO has.

So, I should rephrase my stance - The SE model shouldn't be based on SO. Therefore, it may work better to have accepting answers removed on non-SO sites.

@Unihedron Sadly, it's still very much part of the SE canon that sites are supposed to be for "practical" questions rather than "factual" ones, and in many cases that's taken to mean that the site is supposed to solve people's problems.

Q: Can we exempt downvoted accepted answers from getting the top spot?

Similar to this request but narrower, I'm suggesting we make a particular exception for downvoted accepted answers (those with score less than zero, or some other threshold like -3), so that they stay in the normal sort order and don't jump to the top. The accepted answer on this question on bh....
