just hide all other elements on the page using either developer tools (temporary solution, gotta reset every time) or write a style for the page

@shaggy On Firefox, you can right click on a flash object and select the appropriate option under "This Frame".

But it only shows up if you your flash plugin is set to click to play/ask to activate.

Or just view source and search for "embed" or ".swf" if you aren't familiar with the dev tools, and copy the url and open it in a new tab.

It's not a very good formula, to be honest. But that's what they use.

This site is getting less traffic and attention at its current healthy question, answer and moderation rates. Taking what we learned from the StackEgg game, our quality stat needs to be improved.

@nhahtdh That's probably why they stopped making new ones. It's hard to see what use one could have for a bot that picks out questions via whatever algorithm. If they're really useful questions they should be accessible through the site, not through some random bot on a completely different site that I don't even have any reason to sign up for.

in regards to that person that posted the id request for a space opera... in some ways i wish people that are new to the site maybe entered chat first, and had a go around to possibly get more familiar with what the site is and isn't rather than potentially turning away new users or soon to be anime/manga enthusiast... i know thats what the tour is for, idk i just have sympathy for people like that, and would like to help everyone out..regardless of intellect, or what they bring to a community..

just because their inquiry doesn't match the Q & A criteria, shouldnt mean that as a community that we have nothing to offer them.. just my opinion. maybe i just need sleep

You're welcome to post a comment advising the user how to improve. I generally do so if the user seems to be mostly pretty good but maybe on a bit of the wrong track (e.g. meta.anime.stackexchange.com/questions/2316/…).

On the other hand, when a user is bringing really completely off-topic questions here, better understanding and small changes of their behavior isn't going to help things. We can help them understand the system, but they still need to put in some effort on their own.

I agree with Logan M wholeheartedly.

Anyway, there is the fact that people don't read

They need someone to tell them to stop and hold hand

Those who do makes for valuable assets.

Some people will read if you show them what to read. Other people don't read.

I'm at work right now, it's a 3 minute walk home.

OK, I thought it will take like half an hour

for example when i verified mine i opened another tab for my email confirmation, inwhich it redirected me to the tour page.. which i closed once i knew it was confirmed and then refreshed the original page. which is a pretty easy way to miss the whole thing. lol

I'm sympathetic to the idea that new users need better information, but ultimately I think the solution has to be at least partly on the software side. I don't think there's much we can do to help beyond what we already do.

By the way, I have been meaning to edit this post, but meh, the author's sense of math is a bit off

Only moderators can send user-to-user messages. And that system is only used for moderation purposes (e.g. interrogating voting irregularities), so the PM feature is moot.
