Q: Do Yaten (Star Healer) & Taiki (Star Maker) ever refer to Usagi (Sailor Moon) by her civilian name?

seijitsuIs there any episode in which Yaten Kou (Sailor Star Healer) & Taiki Kou (Sailor Star Maker) either directly address Tsukino Usagi (Sailor Moon) by her civilian name or refer to her by name when talking to someone else? I've been searching through all the episodes of Sailor Stars, the 5th season...

Q: How rare is it to find an anime script from the late 1990s for purchase?

seijitsuI'm interested in buying official Japanese-language anime scripts from Japanese online auctions, Japanese online shops, eBay, and/or American websites. How often are they listed? If I see one, do I need to act immediately because the chance of coming across it again is extremely low? If it's not ...

Q: Which novels does the Bungaku Shoujo movie cover?

TorisudaI would like to watch the Bungaku Shoujo movie at some point, but I don't want spoilers for the novels. Where are you seeing that?

every pic in SE

but not in chat
and it is for only one time though

I think that's on your end. I don't see anything when I hover over images on the main site

may for the 1st time '

maybe your extension?

4:32 AM
extension huh
let me see

Can you screencap what you're seeing? I basically never get any ads on this site at all except to other SE sites or twitter/facebook stuff related to SE.
I think at the moment the only sites with any sort of paid ads are SO, SU, and SF.

may be its extension
i did not see any extension but i uninstall some program that look suspicious

What browser are you using?

firefox

Try IE instead. It's more moe.

I've only used IE 11. Can't really say anything about other versions.

so ok let me try then
oh i am so excited , using IE :D
and i need some help here about thumbnail problem
how to do in IE

Getting userscripts to work in IE is really annoying
I managed to do it once, but I forgot how. Let me see if I can find the info

@ShinobuOshino which browser are you using then

chrome

4:52 AM
@mirroroftruth you must have caught malware
if this also happens in other browsers, it might even be script injection on your connection

i don't think its malware
i think it is some software
that come with other software which we neglect to read and click ok

I'm pretty sure I used one of these listed here to run scripts in IE. Forgot which though, but I assume any of them will work for something simple like the one we have here.

Q: Possible to run userscript in IE11

bostonI have a custom userscript that I'm running in Chrome and Firefox using Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey. Is there any way of using this script in IE11? Or is there any plugins for IE11 that does what Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey does?

ok i will try

5:21 AM
@mirror What was that all about? xD
am I troublesome?
oh ehm
i will when i get in the train

5:35 AM
@Asa i mean translate

めんどくさい。mendokusai @mirror
annoying
often sai is replaced with se in anime it seems.
at least from my experience

5:48 AM
めんどくさい→めんどくせー is rather impolite and a complaint. This is one of those cases where if you speak like an anime character people will think you're a delinquent. There are other adjectives you can slur in this way (e.g. うるさい) but it's not a good idea to do so unless you really know what you're doing.

sou ka
arigato @AsadaShino
うるさい this does mean noisy also

translate: めんどくさい→めんどくせー
it's dead :(

@user1306322
Annoying → Mendokuse

He killed it because ppl kept abusing it

people in places other than anime.se
which means potentially bad people :p

5:59 AM
We weren't helping

we weren't breaking things or complaining much either
I'm sure if Prix was still around, he would've asked to enable it just for us again

But it is pretty abusable any way you look at it to be able to force another user (especially a feed user) to say pretty much whatever you like. Even if it was clear by context (which it wasn't always because of various abuses), it's not something I'd be very comfortable with allowing.
Only reason it's okay for our bots here is because they have additional moderation functions in case someone starts to abuse it.

I guess Marc could implement abuse prevention code into a translation bot, but it's probably too complex for him to take on that task
easier to just disable it
eh
I wish we still had Ruri to do translations instead

He did one to delete the message if the previous one is deleted.

back

6:04 AM
But you can also edit the old message or even move it. There's too many possibilities to deal with.

so what I said was wrong?

there are still many other ways of potential abuse left, so it would require constant patching, which I'm sure nobody wants very much

@AsadaShino what wrong

ok gotta go now

The way I understand it, pronouncing the sai as se is indeed making it sound very impolite, said with an aggressive or arrogant tone, usually.
@mirror about mendokusai or se

6:08 AM
i think you are right
like urusai adding se

Most of the time when it is pronounced like that in anime, it is meant impolitely or even insultingly where possible
like rolling the r to get that street delinquent feel
possibly adding ndarou

sou ka
tonikaku i got the romanji spelling , which is fine for me :D

Though I'm still not sure if darou is impolite or formal. Because it is added onto the formal conjugation of verbs
if I'm not mistaken
good xD

need to learn it first , watching anime will not help in detail

haha

6:14 AM
main reason to learn japanese is to watch it without subtitle so if i can understand it is fine for me now

nor will it help with proper pronunciation xD

darou is the dictionary form of deshou

for later i may learn in detail

haha okay. cool
@logan dictionary form?
so like proper or formal form?

6:18 AM
Dictionary form is the most fundamental form for a verb, but usually only appropriate for informal speech. For example, taberu is dictionary form, but you'd usually say tabemasu unless you're talking with someone you're relatively informal with.
Basically darou is like da, while deshou is like desu.

ohhh :3

Q: Should we allow questions asking release date of anime or manga?

anasIf a persons likes to know the release dates of a particular anime or manga episode, or like if someone is asking when is the new season of a particular anime releasing. Questions like these should they be allowed?

6:51 AM
@HellButterfly Was basically done writing an answer to that when it was closed. I don't really care either way about the closure (not sure it's a duplicate of just that one post but it's certainly covered by the other answers on similar questions), but I thought if you're in the middle of writing an answer you can still post it for a few minutes or something.

Just install NoScript, or AdBlockPlus, or GreaseMonkey (+ a small userscript), or all 3, like me

@ton.yeung: Like disable all JavaScript? :O
I used (illegal) streaming sites, which are filled with stuffs that I don't need and drain the CPU (ads, other players that I don't use, chat box)
If I disable plugin, I can't watch anything
So I used NoScript to block everything, except the scripts needed to run one of the players
@ton.yeung: I also don't like streaming, but I have to live with it until I get my paycheck and buy a new external
@ton.yeung: Yep, and recently in 1080
There are also CDs and material that comes with BD, which I dl and save them all
Those are rarely ripped
And very hard to find after a year or two
Sweet dream...
He seems to have disappeared after that incident
He's still on SO, btw

9:00 AM
Oyasuminasai @ton kun :3
Or does san work better here? ._.

san is gender-neutral

Yeah, but does that not also indicate a stronger familiarity?
Or is it usable on (almost) complete strangers?

kun is usu. used for male, but can be used by people with higher position to politely refer to a person with lower position, regardless of gender

usu?

usually

9:02 AM
Ah, I had a hunch it would be that, but I have almost never seen someone type it xD

I think kun can be used on people we know the name, but not very familiar

Yeah, that's why I chose kun over san, since san (to me) indicates an at least somewhat stronger familiarity, like knowing them for a bit longer or something

No, san is also used for the same purpose as kun (except for gender)
It doesn't have a strong indication about familiarity

Okay. Was not sure about that, I'll refer to people as san then until I know their gender xD
といいます (to iimasu) is a way to say your name, right? Like Asada Shino to iimasu

Ohayou~

9:07 AM
It is one way

Asada-chan

There are many other ways, depending on the level of formality

@ToshinouKyouko Ohayou~ :3
@nhahtdh Yeah, but that is one of them, then, I was not entirely sure of it :P
Simply namae wa XXX is one too, I guess, or just saying watashi wa XXX desu
And probably many others :P

A: What is the light source in inverted world?

Toshinou KyoukoHere is a very accurate representation of the world Patema lives in (made by myself): The outer black circle is the world that they find at the end of the movie, the original world in which everyone lived before the scientists' calamity. The source of light here is sun/moon - Traditional light...

:3

"XXX to moushimasu" is very polite

Lol xD
Nice :D
@nhahtdh Ah, I heard the grandfather clock in Fairy Tail say that, but he said that to say "Is what she said", instead of as a name, so I was not sure if that was correct
xD

Probably context

So someone sitting in that clock said something and he'd say "blahblahblah" to moushimasu
I guess so
Given the context, it can have different meanings, you would rarely mix those contexts or meanings, since the context is quite different

Ah, if the part before "to moushimasu" is not a name, then it is a polite way to say (something? - can't remember what)

9:11 AM
O_o
Did you mean "something? - can't remember what" ? Or can you not remember? xD

I can't remember

Hahaha :P
Okay :)

It is a pattern for very polite speech
But can't remember the context, or any example
I think Nobunaga Concerto should have some example

Haha, okay :3

9:14 AM
@Karasu hi :)

@ToshinouKyouko why you used circle for planet and its core but not for sun XD

@ShinobuOshino :D
idk how the sun works :D

You can take some artistic freedom on celestial objects that are older than our planet, I'm sure :p

sun does not work

It's always sunday on the sun xD

ahh i forget why i was moving slowly

Lol

you know

9:23 AM
What do I know?

i have two unusual habits
one i forget

The other one is that you usually forget things? :P

ahhh
i thought you gonna ask "And Two"

Sorry T__T
And Two?

and i gonna answer oh i forget

9:26 AM
You don't say! :o

did you get it
i don't think you got it

I think I do
You forgot nr 2

1. You forget things
2. You forgot this one
But how did you remember 1?

you are my sempai so

9:27 AM
If you forget things

you do get it
:D

^^;
Mirror-kouhai xD

and don't think me like "notice me sempai " type

so you are ignoring your kouhai?

9:29 AM
yes it is counted for Asada Shino character though

Can't have em all I guess ^^;

oh @ToshinouKyouko sense

Hahaha :p
I still have to catch up to the latest 2 SAO II episodes, I don't know where they ended last episode :P
So I don't know what I can and can't discuss xD
I wanted to watch 3 of em in a row with a friend

ne ne @ToshinouKyouko sense your drawing suki da yo , daisuki :D

But now he said he can't go ._.
@mirroroftruth sensei*

@mirroroftruth :3

you are there sempai for me to correct my mistake

Nandemonai ^^

oh sempai , betsuni
mean

everyone is a sensei

Kyouko is hakase

9:33 AM
iie
@ToshinouKyouko sesei and @AsadaShino senpai

@mirroroftruth "Not particularly" or "Not really", or similar, obviously having different but sort of similar meanings depending on context

sou ka

Kyouko-hakase-sensei xD

i was thinking same

-kun-san-sama
xD

9:34 AM
@AsadaShino no can do...
just one honorific ;)

I know :P
Which is why I jokingly added the other 3

-tan-chan-ohime-odenka

"-nobaka", obviously not an honorific, but you hear it so often in anime, it might as well be :p

@ShinobuOshino then hakase Kyouko sensei as asada said

@AsadaShino -nobaka

9:38 AM
Not sure if that's correct grammar, title before name, if you can't use it as honorific ._. But I have nothing to back it up T__T
@ShinobuOshino mou~ ^^;
Shinobu-san dame desu~
I could say Damattenasai, in the above sentence, right? Though that does make it more of a formal command, instead of a friendly request
From my knowledge

double s, and yea: nassai is a command.

Ah, double s, okay :3

damatte te koure ba nai (-ka)?
is how I would phrase a request..

google sensei is not helping me

Hehe ^^;

9:43 AM
@Vogel612 Not sure what you are trying to say...

watashi mo

Everywhere I look, I find nasai with a single s
as a polite imperative (request, I guess?)
だまってなさい (damattenasai) also translates to Please remain quiet
だまってなっさい (damattenassai) translates to "Nassai silently"
While I get that google translate is not perfect, I can't find nassai anywhere with google

oh sempai O_O

Now it's confusing when someone says you made a mistake somewhere, but you can't find the corrected form anywhere, but can find the way you used it all over... Who do I trust? xD

wasn't it 'senpai' ? or is it the same, I do find sempai quite often, but usually find it senpai

9:49 AM
@ShinobuOshino does not matter n and m

It's senpai, but I guess if you just hear it and don't know how it's written, you can say sempai, people will understand you either way

i write both senpai and sempai

but in kana, it's n, since there is no hiragana for just "m"

sou ka

先輩 (senpai)
せmぱい (sempai) Does turn into 先輩 when turned into kanji with windows' kanji replacer :P

9:51 AM
sempai -google translate - m not pie

Closest you'd get to a singular "m" is む (mu) I guess

haha O_o

No pie? :(
Senpai want pai (パーイ)

noppai

Hahahaha xD
Aww, google <3

9:52 AM
ah adding O mean honor @AsadaShino

ちっぱい、おっぱい

のパイ translates to "pie" xD
@mirroroftruth It's a more formal way of saying something, yeah

then honorable pai is oppai

@nhahtdh Hahaha :P that's also pai, yes xD
@mirroroftruth overpoweredpai
originalposterpai?

both are oppai, the first one is flat/small, the second one refers to general boobs
ちち = 父、乳

9:55 AM
I have not heard chippai before

(killing unicorns)

chichi is the reading of the kanji father, and also the reading of the kanji breast

chichai?
@nhahtdh 黙っててくれ ば ない か?

chippai = chiisai + oppai
@Vogel612 ことわる!

mendoi

9:58 AM
chippai == cheap pai :D

Lol
No appurupai? ._.
