do we have a question about a list of legal site to watch or read manga?
I found this and it looks legal manga-anime-here.com

Q: How can I tell if a site is Legal?

Memor-XHow can I tell if a site which is linked to/mentioned in a question and/or answer is a legal site?

Q: What factors in adapting a manga into an anime?

PribhatI was just wondering, what exactly are the factors that contribute into successful anime adaptation of a manga? There are various famous mangas out there, which would be really amazing as a anime. My question is pertained to this: Are anime adaptations solely based on the popularity of the mang...

That's the one set up as part of the new anti-piracy campaign, right? Should probably be added to the list.

yea. look like it is
I'm gonna add it there

Without having an icon, and with a title like that, it looks totally fake though until you actually visit the site.
Hopefully they work on that

4:41 AM
I don't really understand why it asked in meta
it could be on main site
I tried to search on main site and didn't find anything
I forgot there is meta question about it

Actually, this is more of a meta-site than a source for watching. But it does link to a variety of licensed sources for the shows, so still useful (perhaps even more useful than the other sites)
I think it's on meta because the general policy is to remove links to pirated content sources, so we need a place which catalogs those sources which aren't a problem.
If it was on the main site, I think the answer would be to check that site or Anime Planet, both of which seem to be trying to document these. There are other sources but they're rather obscure by comparison.

5:00 AM
Up until today, I thought Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun was basically as good as it could possibly hope to be, given the premise.
However, this video changed my perspective by showing how great it really could have been with just some minor changes:

@LoganM you should be master of cup size

Q: 1990s anime with a character that hates carrots

Arran UbelsI remember when I stayed in Japan for a while around 1997 I watched an anime where the main character (she) hated carrots. But I have no idea what it was. (I can't recall if it was English dub or English sub.) It seemed like a shoujo-ish situation comedy. It's been bugging me for quite some time...

6:18 AM
@LoganM Yanderebot? Sounds scary :o

Okay
Lesee

hi hi

Cool, hehe
Hello usukidoll :)

I need help D:

6:22 AM
what do you need help with?

anyone out there know what "I will" means in Japanese? X(!

suru
means i will

Isn't that to do?

Not really. suru means to do.

-masu on a verb, I believe

6:23 AM
it used as i will also

Is future tense

Yes, generally you just conjugate the verb, e.g. tabemasu can mean "I will eat"

so ... what is that? Is it so suru yo or something? My sensei said that there was going to be 5 hiragana... so I saw sosuruyo --> in romanji so u su ru yo . is that right?

Aha like that

i think it mean i will do

6:26 AM
so that means I will? I found it through a rough translation

https://www.google.com/search?q=I+will+in+japanese&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=nts#channel=nts&q=i+will+in+japanese&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&safe=off

That's one way. It could also be sou shimasu.

@AsadaShino does it

ugh I hate her disorganization though
she just mentioned something like study I will in Japanese ... hint: there are five hiragana..

What is the context?

so the first thing that came up was to search all over the place but to no avail...so I just googled

6:27 AM
oh ya context main important part

and there is so u suru yo

@mirroroftruth I'm also still learning xD I don't know nearly everything about Japanese, haha sorry

@usukidoll sou suru yo i guess

but is it correct though? ^

sou suru yo sounds okay, if you can only use 5 hiragana. But I am also still learning, so don't yell at me if it's wrong after I agreed ._.

6:28 AM
^ I have oral communication japanese
also shitsurei shimasu is bye after leaving a teacher's classroom or office right?

It's most likely either sou suru yo or sou shimasu if it has to be 5 syllables.

Yes, it's basically "Excuse me"
To say if you have another important thing to attend to

yes it is excuse me

well I already know how to write the whole hiragana chart in advance X)!

@usukidoll then you know a lot than me

6:29 AM
Nice :) That's good to know :P

it's just that well I don't mind memorizing the vocab and reading the dialogue but... the interaction scares the daylights out of me x.x

Interaction and oral practice helps so much though

^ I know.. I had the whole dialogue and then all of a sudden during class I just freaked out x.x! ugh

We had pretty much zero communication between students during lessons I took at school, it was just cramming and then some tests
I'd have preferred practical assignments and such. But none of the other students could be bothered...

probably because it's been a decade since I last had an oral conversation in japanese XD! My high school japanese was both written and oral

6:31 AM
@AsadaShino you took class

but I chose oral to get away from kanji

@mirroroftruth 1 hour a week for 10 weeks, you can barely call it class

but for me it is still counted

As a course to take to fill up my curriculum

curriculum huh

6:33 AM
@mirroroftruth Counted as what? Extra reason to ask me about japanese? xD

@AsadaShino I have Japanese Oral communication class every M W F. I study the material everyday and alternate my math studies...like all Tuesday and Thursday it's Japanese and Number Theory and all M W F it's Japanese and PArtial Differential Equations
and weekend free for all

@mirroroftruth We had to fill up a certain amount of 'points' with courses of our own choosing in school.

haha i never thought that would be one reason

so I'm pumped for the 3 day weekend

6:35 AM
@AsadaShino is there different between the language used in manga and anime and real life conversation

@usukidoll I see, cool :P urayamashii yo
@mirroroftruth ~_~ I'll take that as a yes xD

sou ka

I have never read manga in hiragana/kanji
And it was not an answer to your question

Because I'm not at that point yet, unless if it's a manga with furigana
And I have never had a real life conversation in Japanese

6:37 AM
@Karasu Mio

And setting and the relation between two parties in a conversation determines a lot about how a conversation goes, as in any language
You wouldn't say "yo, dude, sup?" to your employer during a meeting (normally)

There's a difference in that anime/manga language isn't as polite as you'd expect people to speak in real life, and they use somewhat different vocabulary. You can still learn Japanese by listening to it, but you need to know how to say things in the more polite way.

@LoganM Exactly this
They sound 'rude' in anime.
Barely using particles in sentences
Though that may just be normal in real life conversation as well, leaving out stuff like desu and watashi wa and the like

Mostly it's good for learning vocab and some grammar, but only once you already know enough to understand the structure of what they're saying.

6:39 AM
But as I said, I can't say that for sure as I have never had a conversation xD

leaving pronoun is common in japanese

Anyway time for me to go home and sleep. 'nite all

Gnight :3

goodnite
i can't spell properly in romanji
oya sumi

@mirroroftruth But you're okay with kana? :P

6:42 AM
i can speak myself some word and understand some
kana ?

hiragana, katakana

instead of romaji

they are out of control

kanji is nasty

6:44 AM
@mirroroftruth Your romaji are out of control? xD
@usukidoll Indeed, that'll probably take up the largest part of my time learning the language xD Luckily computers do sort of help with writing them, but reading them or writing by hand is tricky :P
私 is pretty simple to remember.
OR
何 is too

no hiragana and katakana

But those are some of the only ones I know by heart (at least one meaning of them)

romanji i am trying to control

@mirroroftruth Sorry, yeah your hiragana and katakana, my bad

人 this one i know
one piece i guess

6:46 AM
@mirroroftruth What do you mean?

meaning i know what it stands for

You mean it stands for "One Piece" ?

though i don't know it is hira or kata

burps

@mirroroftruth jin, nin, tari, hito

6:47 AM

Btw jump a scanlations will be late from now on due to new JP laws to combat piracy
Stores no longer get jump early
Raw providers are getting cracked down
Expect your typical release somewhere around fri to next mon
In case anyone is wondering

:( thats lame

people always find a way to pirate things anyway
with one way or another

all i can see this doing is making scanslations a bit dirtier

@ToshinouKyouko Well, the dirtier the better, hehehe

!!urban riajuu

@ShinobuOshino riajuu Riajuu is internet slang for somebody who has a good life. It's typically used by otaku and such on message boards like 2chan to refer to people who have girl/boyfriends and are popular with their peers.

9:21 AM
they sound terrible

!!help urban

@mirroroftruth urban: Fetches UrbanDictionary definition. /urban query [resultIndex=0]

Lol
dat pic xD

otaku
O_o

so, riajuu is basically otaku's arch enemy

9:24 AM
may be
urban dictionary says -In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru".

otaku is positive

Otaku is like 'nerd' in a way

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Someone who is very focused on and interested in a certain field

9:27 AM
And spends their time finding out more about said subject or field

otaku no jinsei ha yabai na! (it sucks to live the life of an otaku!)

otaku is bad

Seen by other people as anti-social

@asa then basically otaku is a scientist

Same with 'nerd', pretty much

9:28 AM
yeah

@ShinobuOshino How did you come to that conclusion?

so rich otaku is riajuu

Nerd is not limited to tech or science fields

1 min ago, by Asada Shino
Someone who is very focused on and interested in a certain field

well, just cuz ur rich doesnt mean you'll get the ladies

9:29 AM
sound like scientist :p

@ShinobuOshino So a reader is not focused on a certain field

@ShinobuOshino but also has negative connotations

Or a photographer

scientist huh

Or an artist

9:29 AM
Otaku is the honorific word of Taku
taku means home
so to be otaku he should stay in home

Lol, yeah totally
And Oshino is honorific of Shino
So she's me

nah, we study otaku and live with it, we do research, we find another culture, find another way to express ourself

otaku(5) eg. Larry has a wealth of knowlege about anime, he is a real otaku.

there's a difference between having a large appreciation and being an otaku imo

Q: What should a university-level course about manga and anime culture cover as part of its curriculum?

sm4This question is not asking about a course that teaches how to create manga or anime, but a curriculum of a course similar to English literature. Such course would teach the history and culture of anime and manga by studying representative works of different periods and genres and their cultural ...
