Oh I forgot shows sometimes censor violence.

that always just seemed like bad practice to me. Censoring fanservice makes sense, since it drives BD sales. But I can't really come up with a good reason to censor violence apart from broadcast regulations, which aren't typically that significant for late night anime.

But I'm not their target fanbase anyway so I guess I can't comment. Maybe there are a lot of people who like violence but don't like to watch it or something. Seems bizarre to me, but no less bizarre than watching shows like that in the first place.

what HS releases is presumably just whatever CR (or whoever else they're ripping from) is using. I doubt they'd go to the trouble of remuxing it with a different video when there's already fansub groups that basically only do that at this point.

I don't think I ever thought of censorship as distracting or offensive though. TV versions of anime are just (extended) advertisements for the final product, so I expect them to be different or incomplete in some ways.

If darkening a few frames is the worst of it, I very much prefer that to the new method of producing entire DVD-exclusive episodes. Not that there's anything wrong with the latter one either, but it's more annoying for me to have to wait months to watch an episode at all than just to see a few mostly irrelevant frames.
