I finished it on Thursday afternoon. Thursday night, my grandfather passed away. As if he was waiting for me to finish so he can go without disrupting my work.

1. My mom's October 15th tax deadline. After that she'll have free time.
2. Me to deliver the project that I'm working on.
3. For all of us to be in the room.

We don't know exactly when he pass. Looking at the timestamps of the last photos and call log, it's some time between 8:47pm - 11:10pm.

At 8:47, my mom was still holding the oxygen mask and he was definitely breathing.

We took 3 more pictures at around 8:59. But we had already put a blanket on him so we couldn't tell if he was still breathing.

At that point he was still very relaxed and comfortable so we went home.

At 11:13, we get the call that he had died. So we rushed back.

They went to check on him at 11:10 and found him unresponsive. Medical examiner confirmed he was dead at 11:12 and they called us at 11:13.

What was he in the hospital for to begin with?

It was a rehabilitation center. We had every intention to bring him home.

But about a week and half ago, we started to realize that he might not actually make it.

So while we were expecting it, we didn't expect it to be that fast.

Ergh. That's an awful shock to get.

98 years old. No terminal illness. Completely healthy except for some chronic breathing problems after having smoked for 40+ years. The only thing that went wrong was that he tripped, fell, and broke his hip.

He survived the surgery, woke up from general anesthesia (yes at age 98), no secondary infections... But then his body started shutting down about 2 weeks after the surgery.

I guess it put him under a lot of strain. He had quite a lengthy life.

We had plans for his 99th and 100th birthdays since he was still in good shape. But well... accidents happen.
