So if someone is building a wp_query for a category isnt the best practice to build all of that and declare the background with add theme support custom background?

@Darth_Vader, is there a translation to english? ;)

hey @Darth_Vader. I can't stay long, gotta hop on a train soon

Sorry late here and cat sleep, lol

Mark, this is the post we're referring to: wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/231142/…

7:18 AM
Nah read that jumbotron question and the way the OP is wanting it i thought that was the grounds for a plugin

Bit of a controversy, that one
It could be a plugin.. but I think I would've done it in the theme. Also, I think if we'd pointed him to a plugin it wouldn't have really helped him

I don't see any reason not to have the style in the html

I try not to recommend plugins as they can rot over time

Having said that, there'd be nothing wrong with pointing out it could be / should be done in a plugin, but could also be done in a theme - but I guess I don't quite see why writing a plugin is needed

it is just a bad question

7:20 AM
@MarkKaplun Putting all those styles in the HTML would make it difficult to muck around with them later, eg. media queries for instance, fitting it in with the rest of your theme's styles, etc

hence all the different opinion about what it is actually being asked

Yeah it's not asked very well
Maybe I should edit it

If he was adding it to a default theme and not building a child theme wouldnt that be grounds and shouldnt that be in the question. Sorry when i see please tell me best practice i see a lot of detail missing

maybe bootstrap is doing all the relevant media queries for him

You know, one thing I always assume on this site is that people are building their own themes (or child theme) because that's what WordPress development means - i.e., not theme hacking. Having said that, we probably don't always make that clear to everyone
But yes, he should have mentioned the theme context and someone should have asked. I didn't think of that

7:22 AM
I would assume that most people with low rep are just trying to hack something for their sites

Agree tim but the issue i have sometimes is some questions are so broad multiple people can take them in a different manner
Oh well, back to reading up on inserting json into wordpress.

I answered one thing for that, turns out they wanted something different. And Pieter took the initial question differently to how I did

If i get time in the morning i thought about asking on meta if the wp-api and another wp api tag should be merged

maybe we should just be closing these too broad ones.. there is a close reason for that after all
@Darth_Vader Sounds worthwhile!
Anyway I must run.. train to catch.

Anyone know any good articles about sanitizing content before importing json?

7:26 AM
basically every question that do not have code is a prime candidate to downvote and "too broad"

@Darth_Vader That's not necessarily bad. In contrast to Wikipedia, we see different approaches on the same page as a plus. Every question should get at least two answers.

just use the WP post insertion APIs they probably will sanitize for you
or maybe not, if this being run from an admin account
so guess it depends on what kind of sanitization you actually want

7:43 AM
Ah, still learning and reading up on. I understand from videos and tutorials how to call it from a site but im still unsure on the santization and how to maintain the injestion of the content from the api if i start uploading it through a times interval into a CPT.
I know how to call an api and get a json feed every so often in php but several ive talked to suggested to import it with something like wp_insert_post

wp_insert_post() calls sanitize_post_field(), but it doesn't look like the content is filtered. That would be a good question for the main site.

Hello everyone,
Wow, that's one well-hidden chat you've got here. Heard some rumors about there being a chat on StackExchange, but didn't really believe it until now... ;)

@AlainSchlesser Yes, this is the dungeon where all the secret conspiracies take place.
Have you memorized the secret words and brought the requested items?

I haven't had breakfast yet. Did you bring a virgin?

@AlainSchlesser Hi :)

The secret words... "The answer to life, the universe and everything is ... 5.2!"
The requested items... I've got a real-life action hook lying around here somewhere, does that count?

that reminds me of something …
My hotel apartment number in Vienna was 42, and it was on the second floor. Exactly my humor.

I've selected a few meaningless tags to kill: writing, blogging, books, fragment. Anyone got a problem with that?
These have 10 entries or so. To prevent clogging the active stream, I'll be doing these in batches, making it difficult to restore the tags afterwards.

11:07 AM
@cjbj I can also just merge the tags into customization

11:33 AM
@toscho That would mean those tags live on as synonyms, right? In that case people could still think they are meaningful

@cjbj yes, but they couldn't be used anymore
and the existing tags in the questions would be renamed

12:23 PM
@toscho I took a quick look at them, but many posts need some retagging anyway, so I'll soldier on for a while, until I get bored with it.

:D Anyone know how to remove the mce-toolbar a WP_Editor when TinyMCE Advance is installed?
It's certainly part of the WP_Editor tinyMCE index but I think it might be in the plugins portion of it, but I don't know of a way to separate that out of the plugins string.
Also known as "Editor Menu" on the TinyMCE Advanced screen

@TimMalone Please make some rep. I'm tired of reviewing your suggested edits.
