@TomJNowell - does spots have a public development repo somewhere or just the distribution version? I might play around later seeing if I can add front-end editing to spots

Answer from Oct. 12 got accepted right now. Because user wants to ask Contact Form 7 question.

Italian postal service rules for things one isn't allowed to ship: illegal stuff ->ok, money and other valuables -> ok, weapons ->ok, dangerous things -> ok, pornographic material -> WTF?!?

what about toxic waste hehe

toxic waste are among "dangerous things" :)

> Envoy requires PHP version 5.4 or greater, and only runs on Mac / Linux operating systems.
what's the freaking point of do CLI utility in PHP and restrict it to *nixes?..

The 'Ndrangheta, a criminal organization from Calabria (Italy) has been involved in radioactive waste dumping since the 1980s. Ships with toxic and radioactive waste were sunk off the Italian coast. In addition, vessels were allegedly sent to Somalia and other developing countries with toxic waste, including radioactive waste cargoes, which were either sunk with the ship or buried on land. The introduction of more rigorous environmental legislation in the 1980s made illegal waste dumping a lucrative business for organized crime groups in Italy. A 1995 parliamentary waste commission report...

bleh

1:45 PM
boy, I hate support!

@Rarst @Wyck thats one of the too many italian shames

I have to stay calm, when customers blame me for their crazy, broken setups.

I was ranting about Envoy :)

@Rarst :D

@toscho take a break from WPSE for couple months, might help :D

1:48 PM
I’m not talking about WPSE. :)
pro support

still worth a try :)

nah
885 consecutive days, cannot break that

going to meltdown any day now :) speaking from experience...

@toscho just make WPSE your startup page
for every device you own
then immediately browse away
thats how i managed my consecutive days badges and still managed to keep my children alive

and when there are flags? or WooCommerce questions to close?

1:50 PM
lol. just rest assured someone else will smite them

@toscho all of us can and want to close WC questions!

but you don't

I just cast votes

I closed many Woo questions yesterday that were left on our site.

I voted a couple iirc
Nice, I just received an email wish me a happy easter and the subject is "=??Q?Washi_=AE_|_creativity_&_paper_?="
creative!

2:01 PM
@kaiser are you using grunt with bootstrap?

@userabuser twitter bootstrap?

yeah

no. not using that one anymore. I got one project that runs on 2.3 that I have to maintain, but aside from that, it's gone.

k... was just curious what is your preferred method for maintaining your dependencies, e.g. bootstrap repo comes with a lot of files... curious if you ever trim them back to only necessary or as per composer vendor libs leave them intact..
I suppose it doesn't really matter... I'll just treat them as vendor libs and leave intact.
Just have crap going all across the app now...

@kaiser what do you use?
@userabuser if you don't need to dev with sources, components have package with only dist github.com/components/bootstrap

2:11 PM
@Rarst ah nice.. still compatible with grunt build task?

what task? there is nothing to build in that one, it's only dist (build results)

@userabuser sorry i bailed about the customizer caching. i did figure it out though. have been crazy busy :/

@GhostToast all good mate, glad its sorted
@Rarst from less

@userabuser look at it. it's already got CSS and JS built/minified
personally I just use native package now (with Composer). don't care about volume and they have improved what it has (so both sources and dist)

that's what I was doing... but now need to rely more on less to generate my css and need to employ better/semantic markup... so I need to use grunt, I'll use the main dist as source and import the bootstrap.less and variable.less files so I can preserve the vendor lib

2:23 PM
I moved away from compiling BS into my CSS. why do you need it?
I do import (reference) so I use sources too though
with PhpStorm file watcher, tried Grunt but meh to install it into project (20MB of JS :D)
might try it with bldr

I just need to use the column mixins in my less so I can compile semantic markup/css selectors
Might look at the storm file watcher

so do you import full or reference? I didn't know about reference until recently, game changer :)

yeah ok I did not know about ref either
hm
import full

look into reference ex. github.com/Rarst/hybrid-wing/blob/master/style.less CSS can use mixins and everything, but BS itself stays in separate stylesheet (so can load from CDN, etc)

ha... ok that is huge game changer
no more duplicate crap in compilation
I must have been living under rock...
@Rarst thanks for pointing that out

2:29 PM
Less docs sucked, much better now :) I need to read them start to finish again
afk, later

@Rarst which is the way to develop a theme using hybrid-wing? I mean, one should edit the files directly? in that way can never be updated... Or one should use child themes?

chicken wings!

@G.M. one would think child theme approach is probably best if you want to maintain compat with Rart's updates...
@toscho beef jerky?

1 hour later…
that's about right
that's a good one

what is best hook to include post_excerpt in search results? i tried posts_where but it got messy

isn't there a filter for the search query? I'm pretty sure there is

there is
posts_search

now all i have to do is read this fascinating article -- BALLS! jk

3:46 PM
line 2484 of query.php

thanks!

that gives you access to the where clause
modify to hearts content

and when you're done, write a self-answered question on the main site :)

i can write a self answered rant about how much query.php will cause you pain

i rewrote the whole WHERE statement in my posts_where filter, but apparently that is bad form

3:51 PM
@GhostToast says who? I say BS...

i'd love to see an example of this working.

@G.M. child theme of course?.. why not?

@GhostToast what do you mean? what's the prob? I abuse posts_where daily...

hey i am new here. got attracted by the description. so why does humor not work here?

@userabuser posts_search

3:58 PM
@GhostToast show us your code...

@Rarst just asking. Nothing against child themes... maybe they only could be better if nephew themes would exist :)

@AwalGarg cause if you're joking and having a good time, you must not be working
	public function video_search_excerpt( $search, $query ) {
		if ( is_search() && isset( $_GET['s'] ) && is_post_type_archive( 'pehub_video' ) && $query->is_main_query() ) {
			echo '<pre>';
			var_dump( $search );
			var_dump( $query );
			echo '</pre>';
		}
		return $query;
	}
add_filter( 'posts_search', array( $this, 'video_search_excerpt' ) );
i have no idea what params posts_search expects

@GhostToast hmm, then i would rather get out from here

posts_search provides the $where clause and the $object (query instance)

@AwalGarg WP devs are so overworked they have little brain capacity left to grasp each other's jokes half the time :)
@G.M. what would nephew do differently?

3:59 PM
or in your case you are referencing it as $search

does it return anything?

that holds the where clause, modify that and return $search

perhaps only $where is available, and $query is assumed
because it is passed as reference in the hook on query.php

....

public function video_search_excerpt( $search, $query ) {
$search = 'WHERE something = something';
return $search;
}
don't worry about the $query instance...
you dont need it for your use case
any you probably want to error_log instead of var_dump... or use your custom logger function

this is no different than posts_where however

4:02 PM
so you can properly inspect
technically speaking no, but I don't believe this filter is effected by supress_filters
if the post_excerpt is not included in the fields returned then you need to hook onto the fields filter

@Rarst for the latest stuff I always used inuit.css. It's quite easy to use, perfectly integrates with a modern workflow (Grunt tasks to concatenate and minify - switch between dev and dist version), comes with as less as I need and is highly configurable. Also it has a SASS as well as a LESS version.

@Rarst when you create a child theme, no one can create a child theme of a child theme... I mean, if someone use your package to create a theme and share, then he have to create a child theme. But who use that, have hard time to modify it... I recently have to work on a premium genesis child theme, and to avoid edit theme files (to allow premium updates) I had to write a plugin and do template stuff from plugin was hard... That's not your problem, I think, just talking...

@kaiser inuit site down?.. BS now has official SASS port btw

@Rarst I don't remember to whom I posted this, but I showed someone in here how I create a style.css file that includes a header comment built from the package.json file and which has everything compressed/minified, etc.

4:10 PM
@G.M. btw you could probably easily create child of a child with Meadow, since locations are resolved by Twig and not WordPress. but I hadn't tried yet in practice

@kaiser I remember, but my brain tuned it out :)

:)

I looked at inuit a long time ago when it just appeared

If you want, I can dig up a project and give you a Gist of such a Gruntfile setup.

4:11 PM
nah, I don't dig grunt so far

Only thing to remember when using inuit:

kaiser recommended it

<div class="grid">
    <div class="grid__item"></div><!--

    --><div class="grid__item"></div><!--

    --><div class="grid__item"></div>
</div>
yeah, @toscho you so going to make a meme out of that :P

@kaiser what am I supposed to remember out of that?..
weird comments because it explodes on whitespace?

HTML comments suddenly matter again

4:14 PM
The HTML comments between the grid items. Inuit grid won't work without that.
Not beautiful, but needed so far.

@kaiser what? serious?

There should be some Kickstarter project somewhere in the future to rewrite Inuit from scratch and bring better docs. So far it didn't happen.
@userabuser yes

Immediately realised I'll never use inuit

hm
why the heck does it need that?

inuit is unintuitive. somehow that makes sense.

4:16 PM
to me that's a very minor drawback. when I compare it to all the other frameworks out there that just overdo it, it's ok-ish to live with that.

never heard of such non sense

I did

outside of Bootstrap I want to play with Ink and Pure

IE 6 needed that to get the correct margin between list items

4:57 PM
I just deleted a spam account with an informed badge. I guess he didn't deserve that badge.

3 hours later…
7:31 PM
@toscho the badge doesn't specify what type of informed the recipient is.
In this case, it was ill-informed

1 hour later…
8:50 PM
@Rarst One thing I don't like and consider to be "overdoing it" with Foundation, TBS and Ink is the JS magic that comes with it. It's just too much instead of just doing the basics and doing them well. The other thing is that I don't like it MarkUp is that forced. But that's just my opinion or taste.

there isn't much (if any) JS in BS until you get to things that need to move, etc

@kaiser you can use the mixins to compile your own less so that the markup is more semantic though

9:03 PM
iirc the responsive menu didn't work w/o js. anyway, to me it really just is too much.

well, suggested responsive menu collapses into different moving representation. see above.
can tinker together something simpler with CSS, will just do less

2 hours later…
10:51 PM
asdf
can you see this?

nope
