alas my brain is failing me right now. I'm currently making a child theme of the parent and trying add the metabox/functions customizations to the child theme.

@Rarst The thing I need more practice with is functions /meta boxes etc. (how to modify a parent themes behavior within the child theme) Some of the more backend things.

the theme-ness of it doesn't matter that much in the context, it's just code wherever it's running from, so your question is tad light on details what the question is :)

@Rarst I have a theme. Before I knew how great child-themes were I just made changes to the parent theme. I am now trying to move all the customizations that I made in to a child-theme.
