simplest method in wordoress I want to call this:

@Rarst Is there any wrapper function to set SHORTINIT on demand (and get it out again)? Just curious if this could be used to shorten the admin-ajax.php calls without writing a custom one.

@kaiser nope. since it cancels loading of theme and plugins it's pretty pointless to have API for it - no way to use it

@Brady Take a look here, as using a WP_List_Table is always prettier (even in a meta box). You can also look at the wp style guide for table styling.
