A glass bridge in china.. dare to cross it? facebook.com/ajplusenglish/videos/625942664213911

@CGCampbell: my vaping question is old. i've been hitchhiking around asia for ten months. i don't recall any controversy over that question and didn't notice any when i looked at it. not more than typical anyway.

@hippietrail is it the smoke detector question?

@NeanDerThal: i guess so - he never said specifically. there's only four vaping questions and that's the only one that could be described as "mine"

it is old.. why it is open now @CGCampbell ?
i do not see anything special about that question, i do not see hippietrail trying to force an opinion or something..

i looked at the other three vaping questions in case there was something else i was missing but didn't spot anything

4:31 AM
I blame alcohol..
@hippietrail where r u again?

vientiane, laos. heading to thailand in the next couple of days on my way to cambodia. there's a supercheap ticket home from malaysia on november 18

No plans to go to jakarta?
i forgot islands are not the best places for hitchhikers..

no money left and not easy to get there without flying
i should count my money...

ooh
@hippietrail is it a year already?

980,000 kip. none left in the bank.
if i make it to november 18 it's exactly a year. today it's just under 10.5 months.
980,000 kip. none left in the bank.

4:39 AM
kip?

laotian money

ooooh
u got urself a ticket already?

$170 AUD $120 USD
i'll buy the ticket with the credit card. maybe today.
woah hard crash! now i'm 99% sure the laptop is dying

fell down?

nope. i think it's overheating. 4 is old age for a netbook.
just locked up. had to pull the power cord and battery just to restart
the tablet for some reason doesn't like to connect to some wifi hotspots sometimes
flight to perth $117 AUD amazingly cheap

4:54 AM
nonstop?

yeah. i'm checking flights from four countries here to any city in australia for all of november
i wonder if @MarkMayo could find an even cheaper flight (-:

anything cheaper than that would be in the cargo.. or the gear compartment..

there was one for $90 when i started looking. but that might've been in USD
AUD and USD go too far away with the AUD going down
364 ringgit
there must be extra charges for luggage and stuff though ...

350 SAR..
thats less than 100 USD

yeah amazing. 1/3 what i paid to get here. but i'm booking more in advance.

5:10 AM
i am going to amsterdam and maybe rome this month..
one week each.. training..
will have no time to see or do anything..
@hippietrail check how much is it from jakarta
jakarta to AUS

at the moment i'm checking KL singapore bangkok HCM and phnom penh

phnom penh, wondering how is that pronounced..

pa-nom pen is close enough

@MarkMayo were ever a fan of "Heroes" TV show?

$173 AUD on nov 11

5:16 AM
from jakarta to AUS?
and how about from anywhere there to jakarta?

kl to jakarta could be as cheap as $30

the plan is, u come to jakarta for three days, if i go there i am entitles to have a 3 days stay in a five stars hotel, u get the hotel room as i have a place there.. stay the three days then go to australia..

hehe (-: an old hitchhiking buddy invited me to stay at his place in norway for free but the ticket from there to australia is the killer

@hippietrail australia is not helping you in travelling.. it is an island and it is tooooooo far.
you should move to EU..can't you get a UK nationality somehow?

$90 AUD from here to jakarta in three days - the last day of my visa
no you need at least one grandparent born in the UK for that

5:22 AM
in november.. can't in october.. i will visit jakarta for sure.. just not on a business trip.. no plan yet on which dates..

$88 from bangkok to jakarta in early nov
but i can only stay in thailand for 14 days without getting a visa first

I wish i have fixed dates from now..

cambodia is the cheapest and i can live in villages with local people for less than $5 per day for a month
when the money runs out i can go to thailand and malaysia without paying for a visa and everyone there accepts visa card (-:

@hippietrail not street food stalls..

those are super cheap

5:31 AM
yup
speaking of food.. i will get me some breakfast..
and some pain killer..
a terrible headache.. lack of sleep..

go sleep!

can't.. tried all night.. and it is morning already..

5:45 AM
i'm lucky with my comfy bed here but i can't wait to camp in my tent again
from KL it's just $34!

6:07 AM
man i have to buy the ticket with expedia with no luggage allowance and then change the ticket via airasia to add the luggage - how the hell do i see how much it costs in advance?
i'm editing my vaping question just a little. backpacker hostels have specific rules in australia about fire alarms due to a couple of past disasters

Q: Booking a flight with a luggage limit via Adioso / Expedia

hippietrailI've found a ridiculously cheap flight from Southeast Asia to Australia via the flight search engine Adioso which then directs me to the online travel agent Expedia. It seems that the advertised price is the lowest possible, with no luggage allowance at all. That's fine. But I do need to bring l...

6:40 AM
actually the fare is almost as low direct with airasia but they're trying to trick me into an upgrade for over $100 or i have to enter my email address and stuff before getting to the page where i can mention my luggage - or so it seems ...

7:02 AM
why do indians write "V" instead of "WE", why? I can not understand that. even if they pronounce it VEE instead of WE. still, do they hear it WE?
@hippietrail do you know which airlines?

airasia
i haven't noticed that before with indians

I have seen it all the time..
all times..

indian languages might not have separate V and W sounds?

it pisses me off.. really..

"all the time" is right

7:05 AM
well, "all the times" still an smaller issues compared to V and WE...
even if they do not have separate V and W sounds.. WE is WE, not VE..

"all the time" not "all the times"

i know.. but at least i do not use "V" instead of "WE"..

a site about avoiding airasia charges makes it look like the fee might only be $17 yqtravelling.com/how-to-beat-airasias-bst-extra-charges
we notice germans mixing up V and W in english

@hippietrail there are more than one airasia.. there is airasia x as well..

i think this is regular airasia

7:11 AM
17$ is cheap

it is but i don't want to get half way into booking and find out that for this offer on this flight with this pair of airports it's much higher. i want to know the price for sure in advance

yes
imagine if it was 100$

it is but i don't want to get half way into booking and find out that for this offer on this flight with this pair of airports it's much higher. i want to know the price for sure in advance
the upgrade airasia shows before getting your credentials is $100!

7:34 AM
turns out to be about $28 AUD

not bad

works out about $150 AUD unless some other fee appears
$30.15 AUD now that i'm actually doing it

I'd go with something that has no hidden fees..

good luck with that
the fees are not totally hidden. they just kind of try to distract you as they show you each one
now there's a booking fee to use either paypal or online banking or credit card
$4 AUD for credit card fee
contact phone number required!!! GRRR!!!
time to see if i can use phone number of one of the staff ...

2 hours later…
9:40 AM
A flaneur in Paris, great article

10:32 AM

1 hour later…
1:09 PM
@Willeke yep next adventure i'm thinking of getting big fat visas in advance for both china and russia. but let's see if i find a way to make some money again first (-:

1:36 PM
@hippietrail Nasty thing, money, but needed for too many things to ignore it.

7 hours later…
