2:00 PM
Woo

and pass. :)

PASS

[PASSING]
(there actually is "PASS" on some grids, so using that isn't a great idea)

(I write it in lowercase and guesses in all-caps)

2:00 PM
Put it in [] like you did then

right @Sconibulus, hit us with it

Gotcha

"Hit [us] with your best shot!"

hmm
Accessories (2)

cap and belt?

2:03 PM
belt for sure. not certain whether a cap is an accessory
other candidates include tablet and maybe even whip

possibly jack, although that's more tenuous. I was thinking cap as in baseball cap.

I wear rocks as accessories

good for belt though?

if belt and cap, why not clue with "clothes"?
pretty sure belt should be good

BELT

2:04 PM
I always accessorize with snowmen, personally

oh, perhaps not clothes because we might have guessed button

true

Button's are accessories to the shirt

verdict on belt?
@Sconibulus @Sp3000?

BELT is blue

2:05 PM
I think cap is a pretty strong link, what's your thoughts on it?

I think cap probably is the most likely other accessory. n_palum, despite being a traitorous opponent, isn't actually wrong that button could conceivably be an accessor.
I think we guess cap and see what happens. I'm not super-confident about it, though.

I'm a good guy, what can I say

I think cap is better than button though
ok
CAP

CAP is blue

@n_palum I'm pretty sure your religion officially forbids you to make that claim

2:06 PM
I'm good for passing then

@GarethMcCaughan Uhh.. erhmm

so each team has 6 to get now

I guess so

2:07 PM
yup

FIELD (2)

Oh geez

A lot of people TRIP in fields

play, perhaps mount
there are also field agents

Well you can play in a field, find rocks in a field, make snowmen in a field,

2:08 PM
and field trips

I can see too many genuinely plausible fields
(not messing with you, I really can)

VTD: too broad

@_@ you sure you didn't mean field (6)

Yeah, me too. I was joking when I said trip, but field trip is perfectly viable lol

yeah, I was kinda cross when I saw you posted that :-)

2:09 PM
Fields of Dreams

Hm. @Rubio I think Sp probably wants literally field __ words, so Agent/Trip look best to me atm

JACKrabbits are in fields :P

agreed

Those two then?

trip, then agent

2:10 PM
TRIP

TRIP is red

AGENT

AGENT is red

woot.

Not comfortable with anymore

2:11 PM
no need, we'd be blindly guessing. pass.

[Passing]

Oh distracted @Sconibulus, tis your turn once more.

SEASON (2)

fall and srping seem rather obvious

2:13 PM
unless @Sconibulus is completely on crack, it's gotta be those

spring*
agreed?

You never know
Could be season, like season my drink with some Jack

don't forget SNOWMAN season

definitely. either order.

FALL

2:14 PM
FALL is BLUE

SPRING

SPRING is BLUE

at this point I will remark that Springfield is a super-common US place name and made famous by The Simpsons.

Pretty sure we're not missing any older clues... so pass?

I didn't point it out for confusion's sake last turn because I thought there was a real chance it was intended by Red.

2:15 PM
heh.

Springfield is indeed a very good point and I am sad I missed that :/

@GarethMcCaughan That would've been nice/entertaining

is there a "VTD: way too broad" option?

(and also that gave me a lot less thinking time than I'd hoped)

Only reason for not passing would be if we think e.g. SNOWMAN has to be safe because it's too close to being seasonal. But I don't think that's enough reason to guess it.
pass
4 to guess for each side

2:16 PM
being "too close to seasonal" doesn't mean it's safe, or blue.

@dcfyj it means that if it were red then Sconibulus might have avoided using "season" as a clue lest we pick it

I know I completely missed cotton last game, so it's possible someone else could do it too

but it's rather weak evidence because fall and spring are so very obvious

@GarethMcCaughan I would hope so, but that doesn't make it true lol
anyhow, sp's turn

Yeah, this is harder than I thought and SEASON went by really fast :P

2:18 PM
as you grow older you will find that they increasingly do

I was thinking on the other teams turn last time, that helps a bit
lol

@GarethMcCaughan Don't remind me that my life is exponentially increasing in speed

@GarethMcCaughan Yeah, 2 years went flying by after I got married, had a blast ^^
Haven't really had a slow feeling time in quite a while actually

ITALY (1)
... I'm sorry :/

The answer for that is clearly INDIA :P

2:21 PM
so @n_palum - india, right? ;)

What is this room for?

There are many mountains in Italy.

Haha I actually thought of that a bit, and then saw Rome

Another game

@manshu For playing a game called Codenames

2:22 PM
@GarethMcCaughan They used to be very rich with gold too

See CODENAMES RULES comment pinned near top right

Yay.
How to play?

14 secs ago, by Gareth McCaughan
See CODENAMES RULES comment pinned near top right
:P

so then
ROME

Haha that's a given

2:22 PM
ROME is red

An astonishing feat of deduction.

lol

This is my proudest moment.

I think sp3k might be in the same situation I was

2:23 PM
We share this proud moment

[PASSING]

we need 4, they need 3.

Do we guess Princess for Italian princess e.g mario and peach ;P

Wanting to clue something but not doing it being of the opposing team's words :P

@dcfyj yup. But note that they might instead just be neutral words

2:24 PM
COLLISION (2)

Oh, I know

so we shouldn't go guessing things just because they would have made good pairs with Rome.
hmm

It's clearly more complex than Contact.

rock comes to mind

yes, rock was the first thing to occur to me. But what else? (Maybe something that would naturally collide with a rock :-).)

2:25 PM
Perhaps press or whip...

Press a play button with your finger = collision

spine is at least somewhat viable
@n_palum I had thought of that already

once again, although @n_palum is the enemy, something gaming-related is not impossible.

heck, even tablet is viable, Thank Moses for that one

That could also be a radio or tv remote, not everything I say has to do with a game

2:26 PM
We both agree on rock though?

I immediately thought of GOLD, because I like to smash large gold bricks together when I need something to occupy my hands

@n_palum you sure?

Kind of sure

hehe

yeah, I think so, though I don't have any super-clear explanation for why it's right which bothers me.
ROCK

2:26 PM
Me too Rubio

ROCK is YELLOW

bollocks

oh well
better than red or black

sorry, my bad

well, never mind, we know for next time that we need to find two plausible things for collisoin
*collision
and we recovered OK from a similar situation last time

2:28 PM

that unlimited clue did wonders

let's hope ROCK wasn't the thing that was getting in the way of Sp3000 making a convincing multi-word clue

(and there was a ton of luck there lol)
lol yeah

Let's hope it was

no, definitely not
hmm, I wonder if I'm thinking correctly for black's location...

2:29 PM
I swear I should be able to convincingly multi-word, but nothing's coming to me
Trying not to hold the game up too much though

10 hours ago, by Deusovi
@Rubio Either a single word, a dictionary phrase ("ice cream" is okay, but not "red fruit"), or a proper noun ("New York", "Sharknado", "Pride and Prejudice")
^^ if that helps any

hmm, didn't know dictionary phrases were valid

... MEDIA (1)
I feel like this is pretty disappointing, but I'm actually struggling :(

hm
@n_palum best one I see is play

I recall seeing the food TRIANGLE on media

2:36 PM
Hm
I like Press better than play
As in the reporters and such

(yeah I was kidding. ;)
go with press please.

but it's clearly GOLD!

PRESS

PRESS is red

PRESS is RED

2:38 PM
too bad, would have been nice to make a joke about the yellow press

lol

we've still got nothing helpful to use to try to squeeze out another guess, so - pass

I would find it amusing for gold to be yellow

right @Sconibulus...

2:39 PM
Give us a good clue @Sconibulus :) (once they finish passing)

[Passing]

INLET(Unlimited)

uh...

Sid
How does the unlimited thing work?

inlet??

2:40 PM
guess however many you like

is @Sconibulus looking at the same grid as us? :-)

but it doesn't let you know how many it relates to
lol, no idea

so, we have collision (2) and inlet (who knows how many?)

yeah...

I would've said Spring would work if it was still up

2:41 PM
but I have to confess I'm not sure I see anything on the board that seems to connect much with either.
perhaps a jack is an inlet, kinda
or is the jack the bit that plugs into the socket? in that case it would be the wrong way around

I have no idea lol. I sort of think mount, but that's incredibly tenuous
jack = inlet would make sense, a jack goes into the outlet afterall
but that's a bit tenuous

several of the words contain IN but I think tying that to INLET is way too tenuous and in any case I think the links are supposed to be semantic rather than syntactic
any more ideas about "collision"?

Just spine and button really
Maybe string

why spine and button?

and whip and tablet are somewhat viable

2:44 PM
incidentally I need to leave some time in the next 5-10 minutes

I'm thinking spine fracture from a collision (cars) and a button being pressed on a remote

@GarethMcCaughan Gotta leave the office? :P

string is pretty tenuous, but guitar. whip colliding with its target, and a tablet being thrown down colliding with the ground

Sid
CEO is right behind you, eh, @Gareth? :P

2:45 PM
want to try whip?

as well as real-world collisions, there are collisions in computer games (collision detection is a thing, for which there are nontrivial algorithms), and hash collisions in crypto. Neither of which is terribly suggestive.
I think the thing I find least probably-wrong is JACK for inlet (though I'm no more than 50% confident about that one)

Honestly I think we're screwed lol

PRINCESSes are in Mario, which has collision detection. Illuminati Confirmed!

maybe we need to stop looking for rational justifications for things and Use The Force.

heh, good luck with that

2:46 PM
anyway. my vote is that first of all we try JACK and see what happens

Use the Force, Luke...

sure JACK

JACK is YELLOW :(

JACK is yellow

2:47 PM
well, not red/black lol

Take us home sp

TOBLERONE (2)

good news is that once again Sp3000 is facing a board that makes it difficult to find plausible multi-word clues
ah

triangle and uhh

Although I guess India might have some inlets...
@Sp3000 What the heck is that?

2:48 PM
Hmm. I like triangle.

isn't all the packaging gold?

Maybe Gold? The wrapper color is vaguely gold no?

yeah let's try those

Ha! Do it. Same thought, must be right

tri first

2:49 PM
It must be snowman! they have triangles

TRIANGLE

TRIANGLE is red

GOLD

GOLD is red

:(

2:50 PM
Congrats Red
Sorry Blue, my fault

huh. I'd have guessed TRIANGLE and MOUNT for Toblerone.

Collision was a dumb word, I regretted it as soon as I said it, it should have been WHIPLASH

you could have done "latinum", as Gold Pressed Latinum is very much a thing ;)

I'm guessing inlet(india) collision (india, spine)

2:50 PM
I have no idea what latinum was :P

couldn't have said WHIPLASH
because it contains WHIP

never seen that

couple tricky words

The fun part was PRESS with the presence of a grey BUTTON and yellow PLAY

INLET was Supposed to be IN(-DIA)(-TAB)LET

Sid
2:51 PM
You flirted dangerously with BUTTON though..

ah, INLET is pretty clever. But I'm not sure it's really in the spirit of the game.

@Sconibulus :S

didn't Deus use the word as a word for the last one last night?
or am I misremembering

Don't the official rules say something about connections being meant to be about meaning rather than letters, or something like that?
@Sconibulus if he did, then I'm pretty sure he cheated

you can't use the word as your clue, or as any part of it

2:52 PM
anyway, I have to go and pick up my car from servicing. Have fun, all.
(gone)

You can use words that have already been flipped, though - they are no longer relevant for any purpose
seeya @GarethMcCaughan

Yeah, I'm probably done for now, I may get back on later

waves bye to Gareth

I also am out for a bit

That was fun, but I apologise for taking a while. Does anyone have good multi-clue thoughts for ROME/TRIANGLE/PRESS/GOLD? :D

2:53 PM
I'll be away for a bit - if people ping I'll be around

(apart from latinum)
... oh it's Star Trek. Now that makes a lot more sense
That would have been good indeed

Coliseum might work for rome/gold
anyhow, later

have fun, sorry I was bad

No worries - to be honest I looked at yours and couldn't come up with good multi-word clues either

ROME TRIANGLE could be TRIARII? It doesn't actually say Triangle, but there isn't much else it could be
PRESS GOLD could then be LEAF?

2:58 PM
I really want to do gold leaf yeah, but LEAF on its own seemed too hard for the PRESS part of it

Colisseum may have gotten ROME and WHIP

Dunno if I would have gotten more than rome from that

I considered IRON at one stage for GOLD/PRESS, but IRON <-> GOLD seemed a bit loose (and was prone to other connections)
I'm trying to think of something witty for INDIAna Jones here but it ain't working :P (without using the word Indiana of course)
... probably too loose anyway, nvm

IRON is probably most likely to connect ROCK or MOUNTAIN

Yeah the part that surprised me was I hadn't thought of MOUNT as MOUNTAIN until someone mentioned it - but ROCK at least is definitely plausible

3:05 PM
If BUTTON was red or yellow instead of black, my first move might have been ACCESORIES(4), which looked like it might have worked based on the discussion

It's tricky
But compared to the two boards I have run, yours was harder

I wish BUTTON was red too :P

Sid
3:34 PM
is anyone interested for a game?

I'm vaguely about

Sid
Hm. Looks like we don't have a quorum...

Would love to but I should be asleep right now :P

Haha
I see GPR has peeked..

4:27 PM
@n_palum I already waste too much time on Contact. I'm not getting involved in another game online... :)

:P Deus would disagree

Hello! I'm here if anyone wants to play

Sid
We need a quorum..

\o\ /o/

joins the queue

4:37 PM
4 minimum
