@Relaxed It's because you miss the point
@JoErNanO and others, further to this travel.stackexchange.com/questions/67678/… does it make sense to pose a canonical question about the viability of expunging your history by getting a new passport? And then answer it along with other answers let the SE organic process take over?
@MarkMayo I think you have gone offline sir. You can ping me when you are ready to see a refurbished Cherokee on it's way to delivery to Uzbekistan :) Plus a god forsaken refueling airfield deep inside mother Russia

1:07 AM
Or you can just post it and when I come back (like now) I'd get to see it! Bah :)
@GayotFow I'm in favour of an expunged passport question. Happy to ask it if you want to answer it?

1:44 AM
@MarkMayo Yes, I will restrict it to Schengen and I am thinking lots of people will be drawn to some articulate answers. Hopefully we can stop dealing with it and simultaneously give the site an authoritative position.
I was working on an Markdown draft, and would be honoured to pass it along to you. Indeed flattered. You can then edit/amend/whatever.........

1:56 AM
@MarkMayo shout if that's agreeable
@HeidelBerGensis did you check out "High Strung"?

@Relaxed Ber Gensis.. it is cool man
I think it is time to get a new name..

2:17 AM
@MarkMayo i am nicely asking you to stop deleting my comments, don't you think it is way too much what you are doing? just stop, please. It's annoying and childish what you are doing to an extreme.

2:27 AM
please do not do that again, i am asking you nicely, i know u kept telling me [be nice] and that shit, but really, you need to read twice before u delete my comments again. I do not want to report you, most of my comments are fine and i am sure no one reported them.. maybe some were reported but not the majority.. ok boss?

@HeidelBerGensis Steady on, lad

@HeidelBerGensis there've been so, so many flags in the last few days, and many of them definitely valid on some of your comments. Note also that there are 4 mods, and I'm not the only one cleaning up. In some cases, we've removed comments/chats that aren't directly related to the question/answer to prevent fires, or just as a tidy on the thread.

@MarkMayo Steady on, mate

Nobody's targeting you, and although it's entirely possible some of your comments were 'fine', others were not, both in here (you've had multiple suspensions in the last 24 hours, not by myself) and on the site.)

@MarkMayo Do you want the mark down text of the question?

2:39 AM
Assumptions that nobody reported your comments is completely off base.
Sorry @GayotFow, can't deal with that at the moment, gotta get back to things, but wanted to address @HeidelBerGensis's concerns.
Will be back later, hopefully we can all just enjoy travel.

i am talking on comments in site..
@MarkMayo and no one suspended me.. maybe it was for minutes and i did not notice.. just please, do not delete comments in the site, to answers and questions, i couldnt care less about chat, even if suspended for a year or two. Please, again, no comments should be deleted on the site, this only happened once u r an admin again. I hope u r cool enough :) thanks!

@HeidelBerGensis comments are entirely allowed to be deleted, if they're flagged as rude, offensive, or are overly chatty / off topic / part of a big convo happening in comments which shouldn't, and so on
(checks stats) I've deleted marginally more than other mods this week, probably because of last night. Given most of them were from flags, so many flags, if I hadn't, others would.
But if you really feel there's a problem, feel free to call in other mods to discuss. Unfortunately they've not been in chat recently, aside from the non-Travel ones who gave suspensions.

2:57 AM
@MarkMayo i am here long enough to know what a chatty comment is, i am ok when those are deleted, in fact i clean my comments in many cases myself when I feel they are chatty.. when they are rude which i admit i did sometimes, I am ok when they are deleted, but the two comments you deleted yesterday or earlier are on topic, not offensive or rude, and were fine in general. One in Andrew Grimm's answer, and one in the meta answer. Man i am asking nicely, please :) thanks

@HeidelBerGensis Steady on me old mucker

@GayotFow care to translate that to English :D :D

"Steady on" = used as a way of exhorting someone to calm down or be more reasonable in what they are saying or doing.
"me old mucker" = term of endearment

@GayotFow i am calm man, @MarkMayo and I are cool, not on a rage or something.. sorry if it sounded that way :)

not really, when you're saying I'm deleting the "majority" of your comments, then now you're down to "well those two maybe shouldn't be deleted"
I can't see what they are, but given the others I've had to delete, I'd be willing to wager they were at least borderline
anyway, if we are cool, great - keep comments on topic and not rude/passive aggressive/chatty/insniuating and they won't get deleted. Simple.
(paraphrasing in first bit, obviously, they're not direct quotes, although you did say majority)

3:06 AM
@MarkMayo these two are what i remember because they were written recently, but there were others as well :)
@MarkMayo my guess, you are a bit sensitive about comments, you overreact and use the delete button, no insult intended when i said u r sensitive. it is just they are not meant to insult people, i am sure if people felt insulted they would flag it, then you delete it... how about that? please man :)

3:57 AM
As I said before, we had a ton of flags on your comments. I don't go hunting for stuff to delete, generally. You might not mean to insult people, but as we've pointed out to you MANY times in the past, this is a multicultural site, and some things you find offensive, others don't, and sometimes things you think are a joke are offensive to others. If we have to be over-sensitive to this sometimes, it's usually because it's been flagged by someone who did find it rude/offensive.
Much like in the chat the other day where you called someone something (forget exact details) and then said it was just a joke, but the other mod (@ArtOfCode I believe) pointed out that it could be read another way. It always pays to think about how your messages are received, and if unsure if your joke will be understood, it's sometimes best to assume it won't.
Again, I promise you, nobody (well nobody on the mod team) is searching your comments and rampantly deleting for fun. We have other far more fun things to do in life, I promise :)

@MarkMayo i know no one is, hence i am talking to you, only you. and when you say TONS of flags, please do not tell me it is about the guy in the past two days, he had a flagging rage.. regarding the multi culture thing, I know the limits, trust me on that, I have been around for long enough to know that.. All i am asking about is not to delete any comment with no flags, thats it. is it too much to ask for? and i am out from here for now :)

1 hour later…
5:22 AM
I've explained it several times now, including why some were tidied up - either as part of larger flagged conversations, or to avoid more problems. You seem to be jumping from flag to comment to debate which makes it hard to discuss clearly, but anyway, for now, I'm continuing as I am, and if you have real concerns with it, feel free to get someone else involved. Remember, all mods are volunteers, part time, and do their best to be as fair (but as firm) as possible.
Back to work for me :)

Q: Bounty Bonanza Interest Gauging and Commitment Levels

Gayot FowJune 2016 will mark the 5th anniversary of the TSE site, to mark the occasion we can run a "Bounty Bonanza". This is a month long event where bounties are offered at an unprecedented level! Regular users will swarm over the site looking to run the maximum number of permitted bounties for the enti...

everybody please read this, thanks

@MarkMayo you talked about multi-culture, thats good point. There's no need to take your culture as the way to judge comments. Let the community do that :) that's what I am saying boss :) maybe your culture sees more of the comments as rude, while the majority do not. So, let the community (volunteers) decide, then let the mods (volunteers as well) act upon that. Deal boss?
@GayotFow I comitted, any rep i get in excess of 50k i will put it to bounties.. good enough mate?

@HeidelBerGensis No good. Sorry

@GayotFow why? it could be 2000 or more..

@HeidelBerGensis No good, please remove it. It needs to be a commitment free of contingencies and free of path dependencies

ok
i put 500.. only because i had many lost bounties before..

5:51 AM
That's fine!

3 bounties already offered..

1 hour later…
7:03 AM
@HeidelBerGensis my culture? I'm not the person flagging them. The community sadly can't vote on flagged 'offensive' comments, so until stack exchange builds that in (which would be awesome!) we just have to try and be more polite than we'd normally be in casual conversation
Actually that'd be a really awesome feature. I'd love reviewing those, far more interesting than yet another close vote as duplicate to review, but without the same amount of blowback any time a user disagrees :/
.........
in unrelated stories, @HeidelBerGensis, what's your weirdest coding bug root cause? we were debating this at work
so far among the (genuine) reasons, we've had compiler optimisation bug, hardware error causing a software bug, and (imho the best) - alpha particles affecting device memory!

@HeidelBerGensis The Bonanza does not start until June good sir

7:29 AM
doesn't mean we can't offer bounties :) (I have 3 active)

mts
@GayotFow what about that non-path dependency in offering bounties? I'd like to add my self to the list but I'd hate to see my rep go below 3k and loose rights related to closing

@mts What is your rep now?

mts
almost 3.4k
also I don't get the sorting on the meta A, it's sorted by total rep willing to commit or rep per bounty?

@mts You can pledge 200 rep and 10 good questions, right?

mts
but wasn't the point to have three active bounties throughout the month?

7:35 AM
@mts that's a pride thing for the heavies :)
Commit what you can and then focus on questions

@MarkMayo i am not a real programmer u know, i had a lot of bugs that will make u laugh

mts
Ok, I'll commit but will quantify that later

@mts That's the spirit

8:07 AM
@mts that's the reason that my rep is "up to" 5000 - because that's about what I can afford to burn without losing close/reopen voting
I don't anticipate actually going anywhere near that

@CMaster What is yours?

@GayotFow My rep? 7,900 on travel atm

That's fine! All the really good stuff happens by 300 imho

I was pretty keen to get to 3000
was frustrated by good Qs left closed, and dumb questions that sat around attracting vauge, meaningless answers

mts
8:32 AM
Oh btw those committed questions, are we like not allowed to answer before they get bounty-bonanza-ed?

@mts You'll have to ask @JoErNanO on that one

Qs can always get their bounty after answering

From my view, anybody can answer anything anytime they like.

I understood the idea was simply for there to be interesting questions for newcomers to answer (or see answered)

A post mortem bounty is a bounty just like a pre mortem one

8:36 AM
huh, you can give bounties of 500

@CMaster 500 is a bit toppy for my tastes

8:52 AM
Will need to think about some good questions, that's more difficult than giving a bounty away...
I get lots of unexplained down votes on random answers, old and new, since yesterday

mts
9:17 AM
@JoErNanO once you're past that deadline, do you have an opinion on this travel.stackexchange.com/a/67698/32134 ?

2 hours later…
11:00 AM
and my report has been declined
There is an easy solution for that and without breaking the rules
I'll start using the same word
problem solved and no more drama
Have a good day all of you

11:53 AM
@Ulkoma let's make a deal, I will stop calling you that, and i will edit my answer in meta to remove that word if this is what you really want. in return, you will stop asking such questions and start answering/asking real life questions. How about that? just say ok and I will do my part right away. Cool?
let's call it a new page.. سلام..

I make no deals with trolls, you will have to STOP calling me that and if you dont like my questions you can use the vote down or vote to close. Don't pretend to be the good guy here and that you care about the site blah blah, you are an attention seeker who is in love with badges, hats, reputation points .. etc

@JoErNanO @MarkMayo @artofcode I tried..

@HeidelBerGensis @Ulkoma Please just let it go. Stop interacting with one another. Go your separate ways.
Unless you really enjoy suspensions, which I doubt you do.

This is just disrupting chat now, unnecessarily. I don't care whose fault it was originally, you're both at fault now. Stop arguing, before I start with the suspensions.

@mts Flagged as not an answer. There are sim cards that are specific for tourists (with lots of data, etc.) so I'd assume that the Italian phone companies have a system to allow foreigners to buy and register a sim card.

mts
12:22 PM
@JoErNanO thanks! However I doubt flagging is the right procedure, bad/wrong answers should be downvoted and commented on instead of flagging as far as I understood.

@mts I flagged because this tells the guy to generate a fake a codice fiscale wherease the OP is asking for how to buy a sim in Italy.

mts
However if you look at the other A by Boris the site he links to says you do need a codice fiscale and should either go to an Agenzia delle Entrate or get a fake one online

The italian websites out there don't offer a clear-cut answer on the topic. However one can only purchase SIM's in physical shops in Italy because they must be registered to their owner, so the whole idea of generating a fake codice might be a moo point.

2 hours later…
2:42 PM
12 Bountied Questions now!

@MarkMayo Not for long.

Also, my bounty is just taking from the well off (me) and giving to the rich (JoErNanO)

@CMaster Now why would you go out and do that?! :)
Hold on to your rep. Feed it. Love it.
Your preciousssssssss.

There seems to be a rash of new(ish) posters, marking visa or immigration questions with the "air-travel" tag at the moment
I mean, I guess that you're probably travelling by air if you need a visa
but it seems a slightly odd pick

2:48 PM
Not entirely sure what that spammer is even offering
fake ID documents?

nothing any more ;)
heh, that's kinda cool

A: Singapore visa accidentally issued with old passport number. Can I still travel?

JoErNanOCheck with the Consulate Like Relaxed said, if the consulate made a mistake in issuing the visa then they should remedy their error. In case you made a mistake, then they might be less accommodating. Nevertheless, the thing you should do before travelling is to contact the Singaporean consulate ...

I just got one of the hardest silver badges.. I am the third person after @MarkMayo and @jpatokal .. the epic badge

@HeidelBerGensis Which one is that?

50 times daily cap..
and one another fun fact... I am the top user of the tag.. :D
I never knew it existed

@HeidelBerGensis Some people think it shouldn't - meta.travel.stackexchange.com/questions/3633/…

@CMaster ok now it makes sense.. hahahahahaha
i gotta answer that meta question
> I am the top use, so I think this tag shouldn't be here.. lol

A: The tag [rationale] has no rationale

Heidel Ber GensisAfter knowing that I am the tops user of this tag, I totally agree that the rationale tag has no rationale. Just saying 😁 😁 😁

I need to answer more questions, i only have 402 answers.. @MarkMayo has 1642 answers! basically that's 10% of the questions in the site are answered by Mark! Wow.
joe has 421, gayot has 521..

3:37 PM
@HeidelBerGensis You're a rookie. :P
Spend too much time in the sand.
Don't answer enough questions.
I had some fun

A: Where from Ethiopia can I see the Red Sea?

JoErNanOAssumptions Let's make some assumptions: The question "how far can I see?" can be answered by asking "how far is it to the apparent horizon?" It is possible to calculate the distance from a point to the apparent horizon By this definition, a taller vantage point allows to see farther than a lo...

@JoErNanO that's a really good answer..
I gave you +1 a while ago..
