@JonathanReez Yes mods can react to flags, and they have a dashboard/page for moderating.
At 25k you can see site stats. I can't see country of provenance though.
@GayotFow I remember we talked about the . What the hell is that?
Hi @AdamElsodaney ! Always good to have new people in here. What brings you to the travel chat?

Hi :) I have no idea
just curious

Good good. Curiosity is great.

if the question is "what brings me to Travel.se?" I don't do enough of it :D
but I know LOADS about London

Look for questions in need for answers, then. :)

@JoErNanO about the 'uk-visit-visa- tag... There is a thing with @hippietrail that he likes to fiddle about with tags. Bless his heart and I am not flaming him. But he will fiddle with tags and 'uk-visit-visa- reflects a well intended improvement.
But technically it is a poor tag :(
It should be rolled into the generic 'visa' tag
Because...............

Ah ok so it was something the community agreed on at some point? I was guessing it was more of a random tag created by a new users, which ended up being used by a bunch of people.

The community did not really agree or disagree
It's purely a hippietrail phenomenon that he likes to fiddle
If a question is NOT about uk visitors, it is off topic for TSE
So 'uk-visit-visas' should be a synonym of 'visas'
I am not flaming hippietrail by the way
A proper TSE site should burniate the 'uk-visit-visas' tag :)

Yeah, this is bad
It prevents the early hammering of duplicates

Please VTC this: meta.travel.stackexchange.com/questions/3277/… as a duplicate of the 2016 post
@@RoflcoptrException Are you around for some visa renaming work?

Q: Summer Tag Rename 2016

hippietrailSince it's no longer Summer 2015 and the predecessor to this question contained a reference to a specific point in time, it's time for a new Tag Renaming topic. So let's once more compile a list of tags to be renamed to make it easier for the mods. Below is a community wiki answer to be edited ...

Thanks @hippietrail for the 2016 version.

10:11 AM
@JoErNanO Both @Relaxed and I should be able to HAMMER duplicates when somebody uses 'uk-visit-visas'
@JoErNanO it is an effect exemplified by this............

Q: Gold Tag Badge Issue

Gayot FowI had a gold tag badge in 'uk', but it appears to have become confounded (recently) with the 'united-kingdom' tag badge, where I have been given a bronze tag badge. Apparently this occurred by some synonym legerdemain, possibly well-intended. Technically I understand how this could happen. Thes...

please read it!

I read it at the time. The tags were promptly synonymised.
Aaaaargh!

@GayotFow sexy man, whats up?
@AdamElsodaney always nice to have an arab, or half arabs here ;)

cheers!

@HeidelBerGensis I love you dude!
@JoErNanO @JoErNanO do you get the root issue about it?

10:16 AM
@GayotFow I do. But there's nothing one can do to prevent, aside from rapidly synoymising tags.

at what rep a user can create new tags?
we should raise that

@JoErNanO the tag creates a situation where @Relaxed and I are worthless noobs in 'uk-visit-visas' and experts in 'visas'. Paradox!!!
@HeidelBerGensis do you get it?

@GayotFow get what?
u r talking to a man who slept 4 hrs a day for the past month..
my brain isn't working correctly..

@HeidelBerGensis lol, please pay attention!
As the TSE site reaches maturity, we are stepping on our own toes

ok i get it..
I prefer having someone adds wrong "existing" tags, rather than creating new shitty ones..
then other users use that shitty tag..
@hippietrail loves shitty tags..
he sees one, he starts a thread in meta..
and i need to go to work, 5 hours late!

10:23 AM
@HeidelBerGensis It's his 'thing', it's fine and well-intended

@GayotFow yes i support him..

but retards the maturation of the site sometimes
They have asked me to go to Calais!
First Norway and now Calais........
That's my entire travel schedule for 2016 so far :(
No commissions or contracts so far either

@GayotFow how about that trip
turkemanstan or something

Why calais?

I have arranged a flight in to Samarkand, yes
@JoErNanO To give them legal advice
in the Calais Jungle

10:28 AM
@JoErNanO whats up?

Norway was a bummer. I got a short helicopter ride to the migrant camp and the rest was commercial
Plus those refugees in Norway are totally f**ked

How so?

@JoErNanO They are f**ked. Nothing can be done.
In Calais they are allowing DNA testing.

DNA testing for what??

@JoErNanO if you fix that tag problem I will send you an awesome zipper pull like @HeidelBerGensis has.

10:37 AM
It is a @GayotFow(TM) pull? :D

@JoErNanO DNA testing for the Calais refugees to connect them with UK relatives
@JoErNanO yeah, an awesome pull
@JoErNanO if you can provide living space for a Calais migrant? One or more???

See, I'm torn. Migrant no. Refugee yes. Why? Because a refugee is a temporary migrant. I.e. the implicit covenant is that, once the problem that caused them to seek refuge is solved, refugees should return home. Or at least wish to do so.
A migrant is looking for a permanent stay.
Frankly, I find it unfair that I have to jump through immigration hoops to get working visas around the world, whereas with migrants we are clearly violating immigration policies.

10:55 AM
@JoErNanO my point :)

Either we abolish all worldwide borders, or we don't.

And you would take them in and provide a living quarters for them?

Them who?
As in refugees or migrants?

Those guys in the Calais jungle
I have to find people willing to take them in and shelter them, feed them, etc etc
@JoErNanO let's pick this up later, I am headed out to the mosque to see who is there

@HeidelBerGensis I love shit-free tags

11:11 AM
Toilet tags!

@JoErNanO you're welcome. we mustn't get too anachronistic after all.
Hygiene tags!
@GayotFow Please clarify why "UK visit visas" don't warrant a tag but many other kinds of visas do. If you've illustrated what the difference is I must've missed that. I only made such a tag because many questions used that wording which looked pretty specific to me.
I've never noticed terms like "EU visit visas", "US visit visas", etc. So I thought that must be a specifically named type of visa. But hey, I'm not the visa expert around here. I just try to tame the tag undergrowth from time to time.
The term gets at least two orders of magnitude more google hits than equivalent ones i make up and search for other regions using the same wording pattern

And yes UK Visitor Visas is the correct terminology hence the google hits.
Problem is that @GayotFow Has the dupehammer on but not on . Which is somewhat weird.

well that would assume everybody would find it obvious that there are not three types of visas you can get for travel to the UK as you can for the US

Yes I guess it kinda does.

f1 visas and bi/b2 visas seem to both be on topic

11:26 AM
Also true.

i didn't make the tag because i thought it was a lovely adjective. i made it because it seemed to be the correct name for a type of visa. all quite opaque to me.

Yes I have no doubt about that. :)

but yeah maybe it's just a quaint wording that indians like to use but isn't actually official. i dunno.
it's like complaining about the "air travel" tag having the word "travel" in it because breathing air would be off topic and therefore we must only have "air" as a tag
but anyway i'm happy to be shown to be wrong.

The point is not to show anyone wrong.

"UK visitor visa" seems to be almost as common out on the net, but i'm not sure if that wording was as popular here. it didn't stand out to me at the time.

11:31 AM
It's a discussion.

anyway so now my thought process is documented (-:

Q: Where can I camp for free in, or near, Byron Bay, Australia?

JoErNanOI'm currently road tripping across the Gold Coast. I find myself in Byron Bay, NSW, Australia and am looking for accommodation. I rented a small camper van and don't really wish to pay 70+ Australian Dollars for a camping spot in a caravan park. I understand that free camping is likely to get m...

12:31 PM
dunno the answer to that i'm afraid

You just don't want to share your secrets! :P

@hippietrail It was made very clear that your changes were well-intended and nobody has flamed you. The topic was raised and hence discussed. I pinged you out of courtesy. The point of fact is that you introduced a tag that creates unwelcome paradox.

yep sorry i don't intend to come across as counterflaming
i still haven't been shown any paradox or unwelcome

This user is going on a posting spree: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/62679/…

2:34 PM
they're stealing content, and when the last person has edited a post/answer, they're using that name
so on this question, @JoErNanO allegedly asked it
and allegedly I am the cabin crew person answering, even though it was actually @HeidelBerGensis

3:06 PM
Great stuff.
I am now @Ulkoma.
:D
For real though, can we report these guys?

3:44 PM
@JoErNanO I bet you don't like being me :D

@Ulkoma I'm not sure yet. It's ... just ... that ... your shoes are too damn tight! :D

4:14 PM
@MarkMayo I wouldn't mind some bounties to motivate answerers. :)

@hippietrail There's no need to be shown. You have the personal attestation of a trusted user. That should be sufficient.

Anyone know of a place to take spanish language lessons in spain? 6 months course is fine..

9:33 PM
@HeidelBerGensis, I bet there are many, as language schools are a good tourist magnet, but do select your location on the local version of the language. Many different languages and even more different accents.

9:52 PM
@Willeke I asked a spanish guy i met recently, he told me that no worried about the accent.. as long as the other person i am talking to is native then he/she will be able to understand me and reply me in a way i will understand..

10:36 PM
Look for the Cervantes institute.
@HeidelBerGensis

11:25 PM
@GayotFow you're kidding right? change stuff because "i don't need to explain" and "trust me"??
@JoErNanO: did you look in Spain?

11:47 PM
@JoErNanO thanks for the tip.. First hand experience?
