I don't think Michael's comment really supports a roll-back

@Relaxed I didn't say that it did -- that comment represents the opposite opinion. I don't spend a lot of time on Travel.SE, and as such I'm not familiar with the norms here, which is why I brought it up for discussion in chat :)
....keeping all of the above in mind, there was a question asked and answered on MSE today, that appears to have a lot of bearing on the issue at hand:

Q: Does the OP have the right to undo edits?

TimI just saw the following comment: As the original author, you always have first dibs at undoing any edits. Glad you approve though :-) – SomeMod♦ Is this right? This suggests that the OP is always in the right in an edit war, and that confuses me...

I'm still not certain as to the correct course of action, though, and would appreciate some insights from the regulars of the Travel community; including @JoErNanO, who is already involved in this issue.

Didn't realize that you were pingable in chat, I would have pung you sooner :)
@GayotFow There's a fair chance I wouldn't upvote my own question as it currently stands, if I had the ability to, because it's simply a boring "What is X?" question. In the first rev, it was a fun question, spoofing a fairly well-known joke, and maintaining a general air of having a good time -- that was a question I would have gladly clicked an up arrow for :)
....more of us are here to have a good time, I think, while supplying quality questions and answers, than there are those of us that come to SE purely to have a terrible time trading perfectly in order questions and perfect answers -- obviously, never sacrificing the accuracy or quality of posts in exchange for a simple good time, but to have fun in the exchange of information -- I really believe that that (and the fake internet points) are what keep many of us coming back to our exchanges....
....in order to work the Stack Exchange.
I dislike chat messages that are too big :P
anyway, it's kinda late (and there doesn't appear to be much going on here, beyond my own meandering rhetoric), so perhaps we can discuss this a different time ;)

@Shokhet I don't generally have a problem with humor at all. The first thing I thought of, when I read the original revision, was what would likely readers of the question think. I imagined the poor tourist who had just gotten into a car accident, didn't know the emergency number, and went to Google it. Stack Exchange is well represented in search engines, and this post is likely to come up highly rated. I don't think this is a situation where you want to be presenting a joke.
(Most Americans, for instance, have no idea about 112, despite the fact that it even works in the US.)

@Shokhet I for one believe in the communitarian spirit of SE sites. Hence I believe edits are welcome, and rollbacks are an option too.
I would therefore have no problem should you wish to rollback the edit.
My reason behind the edit is explained in the edit message itself: I believe emergencies are not a joke.
I might be too prude in this sense, but it comes from personal experience.

@GayotFow mostly. Still a lot of pain. Sorry was away in Christchurch and Melbourne past few days, went to the world cup final last night, sadly Australia won :/ What's the idea? You can always suggest it on meta ;)
Ah saw your competition idea above. Problem is that you'll need to make a decision on copyrighted images etc. They're ... contentious.
@Shokhet welcome! Sometimes people edit the question to make it more ...searchable. So that it's more easily recognisable in google searches or by users. Unfortunately that sometimes makes it a bit more mundane, to be fair :/
Rollbacks are allowed, but we don't want to start rollback wars. It's important to remember it's a community and the content doesn't belong to one person, but I personally still find it very difficult to not think of my questions as 'mine' :D

@Shokhet You should realize this is an international community
Jokes and cultural references do not always travel well, they make questions more difficult to understand for people whose first language isn't English, they make a question less searchable
I certainly do hope most people do not vote for the stuff they think is “funny”, that's not what this site is about
What we strive for are precise, well-formulated questions about non-trivial travel issues
But boring “What is”, “How can I”, etc. questions are perfectly fine
If anything, your question is kind of weak because it's so easy to find an answer with google

10:28 AM
@Shokhet Do you do stand-up comedy as well?

@MichaelHampton That makes sense; I hadn't thought of that.
@JoErNanO I also really like the "communitarian spirit;" that's one big reason I decided to ask for people's opinions before changing anything :)
@JoErNanO That's a good point.
@MarkMayo I don't think rollback wars are a particularly good use of time, either :)
@Relaxed That's certainly true. Americans (like me!) like to assume that everyone on the internet is American, but that's a questionable assumption at its best :)
@Relaxed I was very careful (at 1am, so perhaps it didn't work so well) to clarify that "funny" is not a value by itself -- the main thing here is accurate information expressed in a clear manner. If something could be funny at the same time, that just makes a SE post that much better :)
@GayotFow Nope. Do you think I could make a profession out of it? :P
...all in all, I don't think that the question as it currently stands is bad or low quality, so I'll likely just leave it as it is.
@MichaelHampton 112 works in the US too?? Learn something new every day :)

I was kind of treating the joking manner of the original revision of that question the way that WB treats in-universe POV questions, but I do realize that there are many differences between that particular method of question asking and the question at hand here.

@Shokhet I see your point. FWIW I was not really bothered by the original tone of the question… but I also see why others would want to edit it and I think it's better left alone now.

@Shokhet It depends, do you write your own material?

Another bucket list item
I have been through that neighbourhood lots over the course of multiple decades
and never once noticed it
a once sacristy and now a perfume shop with the original frescos

@MarkMayo I was telling it in here. It looks like a sort of weekly or monthly contest, but there's some rough edges you need to smooth out. scroll UP to see it.

5:39 PM
@mindcorrosive @AnkurBanerjee Would you mind renaming into please?
@Shokhet Now that you know we are a fun gang, who's pingable on chat, you should begin spending way more time on TSE.

6:08 PM
@Relaxed I agree, I think we'll just leave it be at this point.
@JoErNanO I'd certainly love to :)
TSE is definitely a fun place to hang around :)

6:51 PM
@Shokhet I misread Panama for Havana. :D

@JoErNanO I didn't even see the comment before you deleted it. What'd it say?

Time to go to bed, I guess.
Before I do more damage.

Seeing that question on the frontpage reminded me that this was one thing I should probably find out before I go to Panama :)
Have a good night, then :)

Thanks see you in the morning. :)

@JoErNanO merge is done!

sorry for the delay

@Shokhet I never got a car in Panama, curious to me why you'd want one.

10:51 PM
@Dirty-flow that looks like a bug, I didn't vote WANTA. I close voted on 'constructing tour itineraries'.
