Q: Can a tourist buy a gun in the USA?

Mark MayoThis came up as a discussion. With recent incidents in the news, it's often argued by some members of the public in the US that guns are a requirement for safety, and that everyone should have the right to own a gun. Obviously, they're talking about citizens. However, if a tourist visits, sure...

(which is fortunate, as I asked it)

Q: How can I travel flexibly around the US?

JoshIn Europe, travelers can buy a special rail pass that gives them unlimited train rides for a month. And some airlines offer tickets where a list of destinations is chosen in advance, but the flight dates are flexible and can be chosen on short notice. Is there anything similar for traveling aro...

OP agrees his question is a dupe of another, can we get some more close votes?

Q: Melbourne unusual/underground dining

user18562I'm planning to hit melbourne and have a spare night on the 1st Aug. I've heard/see online sometimes they have one-off or irregular special dining events (36 collective, the gypsy kitchen) that are fantastic to try. Does anyone know of one happening on the 1st Aug or a gastronomy that isn't awkwa...

this question is about August 1, 2014. It's not going to be useful to anyone else in the future without an edit. I vote to close.

A: A guide to moderating comments

Shog9When should moderators delete comments? Same advice as for flaggers: when they offer nothing of value to either the author of the post or to future readers. Moderators should generally process comment flags without dithering: if it doesn't immediately appear to be useful, remove it; if it might...

It's kinda weird how many site policy / guide pages are in meta.SE, rather than.. on some site policy page.

Q: Deleting an (undownvoted) answer and moving it to comments

SlavMy question is in regards to the following question. I've provided an answer. Someone felt that answer wasn't good enough, deleted it and moved it to a comment. Now, I come from SO SE, and maybe Travel SE has some kind of special meta rules, but the SE way of dealing with answers is to let peop...

liked your answer on that. wasn't what I was expecting but it was good.

what would you do?

no you were totally right
I was expecting it to be along the lines of a one-liner, but it really was a me-too answer

... and off they go

see what happens in 24 hours I guess.
Right, I've got to go look at an apartment, and it just started raining. This is Sydney, I expect glorious sun! (@hippietrail I hold you partially responsible) ;)

if you are indeed interested in John's proposition, Travel-SE mods would be happy to assist in exchanging contact information ;)

Q: Have anyone experience the Kenya safari us we experience with Africa budget Tour?

chrisIt's almost a spiritual experience with amount of game you see. It was our first park and it was magical. There are so many zebras and gazelles and buffalo and lions... The cameras were clicking non-stop. After only seeing live animals in zoos it was wonderful to see them running free. Definitely...

???

2:34 PM
@Flimzy can you also forward me the confirmation email you received? I'm really interested in finding out where this got lost / wedged - if jobvite is eating apps, that's something we should know about.

@Shog9 Absolutely.
@Shog9: If there's anything else I can provide to aide in your investigation, let me know.

Q: Strange knob on airplanes?

Aditya SomaniI have noticed this strange knob on flights typically near the video screen (in this case on the right and is underneath the USB port). Is there a use to this knob or is it just a component which has remained in airplane design for some reason or the other and is not required for use by the pa...

@Flimzy I'm actually very surprised no one has ever asked this before. I actually waited to take the flight and come back home and post this pic, because I had no idea what that thing was called.

@AdityaSomani I noticed something similar on a recent flight, and just assumed it was to hold a bag... but you make an excellent point about stowing items during flight.

I've been sitting with that image for more than 10 days now. :/

5:25 PM
Nice question :)
I made the same assumptions
I have also seen them in trains by the way
Can I ask here for shopping advice?
I am looking for some good backpack that I can take as carry-on on flights
