How does an "anonymous user" suggest edits? Just saw a questions with a edit suggested by community user...

6:32 AM
@AdityaSomani not registered users can suggest edits too
it's not a bug, it's a feature

6:42 AM
@Dirty-flow I see. I was pretty sure it was a feature, just never seen it before :/

A: How do suggested edits work?

wafflesSee the related blog post for an overview with screenshots: Suggested Edits and Edit Review. Who can suggest an edit? 7:39 AM
Morning

morning @andra

@Doc who is banned?
Ryanair is testing a new business model on goats: airliners.net/photo/Badr-Airlines/Ilyushin-Il-76TD/2480082/M

8:06 AM
@andra Morning, consider revising that question a little to explicitly mention your Dutch Nationality
0
Q: Can I drive a Dutch friends car in the Netherlands?

andraRumours go that as a non-resident it is forbidden to drive a Dutch registered car in the Netherlands, with rental cars being the exception. The rumours continue that this even applies to Dutch citizens, who got their initial drivers license in the Netherlands, but now live abroad. Being an exampl...

Also, MeNoTalk is currently banned for 5 more days from chat I beleive.

@jmac I'm travelling with two others, but Kobe is looking likely for Friday. I'll keep you posted :)
are you available during the day, or just evening?
@AndrewGrimm ah that makes sense, from what I saw it just lookedl ike you'd edited it to be lowercase, so I wasn't sure.

8:22 AM
@AdityaSomani I believe my Dutch nationality is a bit irrelavant
it is the being a resident that matters
@menotalk morning

don't think he's able to talk in here at present :/

@MarkMayo Can you be banned and visit at the same time?
Morning @markmayo

yeah, you can
just can't talk
that guy user3407 used to hang around after his ban, and then post comments on other SE sites about what he saw in here(!)

And what did he see?

people talking, I guess?

8:25 AM
A bit creepy to have an anonymous username and then tell what he sees
but whatever
Now for something completely different
@markmayo I have started my own company
Would be nice if we would be able to do something travel related

what are your thoughts?
also we need to meet in person at some point :)
any travel plans in the near future?
bah, it's just auto-expanding. Was amazing ramen from last night

There are many possibilities
what about an annual paper-based yearbook of travel.se, with the most qualitative questions and answers, that would fit your pocket while traveling
We would need a board of editors, but that is it
I am currently planning a trip to French Guyana, that is if I can buy a car there

a yearbook? LIke 'top travel questions of 2014' or something like Lonely Planet, but using answers from travel.se?
I suspect we'd need to check the license, doesn't SE own the qs and as?
Ooh, French Guyana
ooh ooh I forgot to mention
I took a photo for you
one sec

@MarkMayo I am available during the day, it's just really hot.

note: I didn't actually go, I just saw the train :)

8:36 AM
(I mean, I work from home, so I can step out for a bit)

@jmac, yes, I'm melting here in Fukuoka ;)
awesome, will keep you posted

O cool they have a train named after the park now
cool
When I went there I was on a regular train, only noticingin when the driver announce "Hoish then Bosh"
Did you go there?

@MarkMayo Just ping me on the network anywhere, and I will certainly see it. Have a safe trip up here! I'll buy you a beer.

@MarkMayo did you visit huis ten bosch?
As long as we plan not to make money on the project, I guess we are okay
THe q and a's are CC'ed

@andra nope it was at Nagasaki station (the train) as I was leaving
I decided against it, just went off to Fukuoka (here)
thanks @jmac!

8:51 AM
@MarkMayo No problem. You coming by Shinkansen?
@MarkMayo FYI, content is owned by the content creators, but can be re-used under a Creative Commons Attribution license. There are details on how to do that somewhere I can dig up, but the point is that creating a 'best of' isn't a problem as long as you properly link to the content creators on the SE network

yeah I'm on a JR Pass, it's working out pretty well. Shinkansen is amazing.
good to know!

@MarkMayo Have an idea of what time you'll be rolling in?
And where are you headed to after Kobe?

9:43 AM
Properly linking back people...hmm...that's going to be quite hard.
@MarkMayo That ramen looks tasty as hell!

9:57 AM
@andra Did you start a publishing company?

10:08 AM
@AdityaSomani No, that is I started a data publishing company, but on a different topic (System Biology)
I do plan to give my self 1 day a week to do pet projects
and this could be one of my pet projects

I see. Sounds like an awesome pet project! :D
Do y'all know if I can buy one of those Travel.SE t-shirts and all...? :(

I believe you need to be on the two first users pages and you can ask for a set
Just keep contributing and it prob will flow to you magically ;)

1 hour later…
11:15 AM
Hmm
I'm still waiting for a decent Liechtenstein or Switzerland question. There weren't many in the last few months

1 hour later…
12:29 PM
@AdityaSomani here's tonight's ramen:
@jmac sorry not yet, but I suspect we're going to try and get some Kobe beef for lunch, and then the others may continue to Osaka, I can just get a later train. Or they might join us for beer too :)

12:41 PM
@RoflcoptrException at your service

Q: Are euros well accepted in Liechtenstein?

andraI am considering a multi-day hiking trip in Liechtenstein. Do I need to bring franks, or can I rely on euros?

I just noticed that most of my downvotes go to a single user :(

12:59 PM
how?
lol yes already seen and answered :)

1:30 PM
@andra Enlighten us about this user?

A: How to take a cold shower

PrometheusHere's something to inspire you. The video is a song from an old Hindi language Indian movie. The first few lines roughly translate to: (Dad) One should shower with cold water, (Son) One should sing, irrespective of whether one can. (Dad) Son, clap your hands While I sing Qawali Let me strike a...

This answer just gave me so much joy.
@MarkMayo Looks delicious! :D

1:55 PM
PRAISE THE LAWD, I have found another one! :D travel.stackexchange.com/questions/34384/…

@adityaSomani I rather not
THat would be naming and shaming
@AdityaSomani I wished I studied a bit more extensive on my Hindi classes :(
The song looks awesome thoguh
Although I remember the "गाना"

@andra Haha! I'm surprised you took Hindi classes. :D

@AdityaSomani I did

Where was this?

Although this is almost 30 years ago
It was in Suriname

2:07 PM
Oh dang. I see.

A large proportion of the people there speak sarnami

Interesting. I did not know this.

which is a dialect of bihari
but there were classic hindi classes
and I attended those for quite some time
I can still count
but that is about it
and some of the words that are share with Dutch
Like "Gilaas" and "Ananas"
The song almost want me to make a cold shower

Not Bihari, Bhojpuri

@AdityaSomani is that the actual kids voice?

2:11 PM
Ananas yeah, many languages share that.
@andra Not at all, that's a lady singing. This was quite common in Indian Cinema
Since kids can barely sing that sweetly :D

I thought so
My father was fluent in Hindi, which was a great incentive to start taking those classes

Was fluent? Is he no more?

No he passed away in 2008

I'm sorry for you loss. I would have loved to meet him. :')

He had a hindi cremation, which was kind of shocking to me a bit, since the oldest son needs to light the fire

2:14 PM
Were you the oldest son?
Was he of Indian origin in any way?

No, just fascinated

So he just learnt Hindi?

yes

Interesting. Did he get a chance to go to India?
Did you?

No I didn't (yet)
Yes he went there once
It is still on my bucket list

2:16 PM
He must have had a jolly time! :D I absolutely loooove foreigners speaking Hindi.
It's a rare skill to have!

After being to Calcutta many times I now need to go kolkata ;)

Haha!
You won't regret going to India, I guarantee it. It's a completely different world, full of mysteries, oddities and exceptional beauty! :)
I miss home now. :(

Yes but it so big :(
I also need to go to Kerala
then I want to visit Goa

Indeed! We call Kerala "God's own country"
It was their slogan at one point of time.
Every state in India is like a separate country. It has its own culture, own language. It's just beautiful, it's on my bucket list to visit those places as well.
I haven't been to either as well...

and since yesterday I want to go to Molai forest

2:19 PM
Damn, that's one hell of a bucket list.
You need like 3 months in India dude!

Indeed, and I also hate it when people "Do Europe"
so I imagine I shouldn't do the same in India

@andra True true.
If I say I've seen India by living in Delhi... I'll be highly mistaken.
Too much variety in that country. From Leh/Ladakh to Kerala/Kanya-kumari. Too many differences!

But then again my wife so disagrees with me when I brag that I have been in Brazil

Is your wife Brazilian?

since we only have been there for 4 hours and then only at Oyapock
No

2:22 PM
Hahahaha
I see I see

But we once crossed the river from French Guyana to (illegally) enter Brazil

I mean, you stepped into Brazil.

yep :)

I need to go to South America

My latest question on owning a French car is specifically to do it properly soon :(

2:23 PM
One of my good friends is a Venezuelan Jewish guy.

Well you should go to Suriname and you can go around speaking hindi

When I first met him, I barely knew about Venezuela, and he was like I'm jewish. And I was like how does that matter? Then I realized that Venezuela has 12,000 jews. :/
I'd love to do that! :D
Apparently I need a visa to do that as well.
Seriously, the only thing I absolutely hate about being an Indian citizen is the fact that I need a visa for going almost anywhere! :(

It all is visa on arrival
almost everybody needs a visa fro Suriname, since it is considered income
But you get it on arrival

Wait, so you're telling me that I don't need to apply for it separately? I can just do visa on arrival?

Yep

2:31 PM
I see I see. Well that makes me feel a little better...

Although wikipedia disagrees
Visa requirements for Indian citizens are administrative entry restrictions imposed on citizens of India by the authorities of other states. In 2014, Indian citizens had visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 52 countries and territories, ranking the Indian passport 76th in the world. Visitors engaging in activities other than tourism, including unpaid work, require a visa or work permit except for Nepal or Bhutan. The country of residence - either temporary or permanent - is a factor in determining the visa requirements for Indian passport holders when visiting some countries. For example, an...

Yeah, that's why I'm super confused. I checked the reference they provided too, which is ambiguous.

indeed

Umm...go click on the link. It seems that this is supposed to be the website of the embassy of Suriname in Delhi.
Either it has been hacked or something, or I came across a fake link...

Well it is quite frequently updated "On 8 March 2012 Holi Phagwa is celebrated in Suriname." ;)

2:37 PM
Hahahaha
The link on the main page leads to an inappropriate NSFW website. :/
This claims that a visa is required before entry...
You know, there are some benefits to living in the capital of a country. A small ride and bam! you're at the embassy. Always loved this about living in Delhi. Visas were never a pain.

Aren't Visa's ALWAYS a pain?

Not really, my dad has three old passports full of them. He didn't have much of a problem. He's going to Korea on the 3rd :D
@andra Have you heard this song?
I'm going back home in 10 days, and whenever I land, I smell the sandy air of Delhi. It always brings back memories. :')

No it doesn't ring a bell

I see I see. Once again, a super popular old song.
Did your dad enjoy Hindi music?

yep
As a kid that wasn't always received well by me
But Karma is hitting me back, since my kids don't like my music choice :)

2:49 PM
I don't blame you at all. My dad speaks German, he was always head over heels about Germany when I was growing up...
Haha. It's generation gap as one might tell you... :P

Well it is still part of oyur upbringing
so as an adult I am now more receptive to indian music

Same here. I am much more receptive to German culture due to that headbanging when I was young.

@MarkMayo If you want Kobe beef for lunch (not dinner), I highly recommend this place: wakkoqu.com/english/food.html 3,280 yen for a great 130g meal. Definitely worth it. I took my family there before my wedding for a lunch, even the vegetarians were willing to try it.

@jmac "Vegetarians" you say...

@AdityaSomani Yeah, my mother and sister don't eat beef, but they were willing to try it, because it really looked that good.

2:54 PM
Wakarimashita. (One of the words I actually do know)
@jmac So it is true. Kobe beef will cost me an arm and a leg. Albeit I agree, 3280 yen is super cheap!

@AdityaSomani When I get Kobe beef, I usually pay something upwards of 4 times that. Because it is really really good.

Exactly what I was referring to. Opened up your link and felt self pity looking at the prices. Man Japan is expensive! :(

3:31 PM
Interesting, Luxembourgers are the only europeans who get a visa on arrival in India

4:17 PM
@andra Sooo Finland is not in Europe? :P
But they are changing policies to allow more...lets see how long that takes. Reforms in India are slower than a snail.
