@GayotFow Sorry I make many edits so I don't know which edit or which person you're talking about \-:
@MeNoTalk: utter rubbish. a programmer is somebody who programs. getting paid has nothing to do with it. does anyone pay you to be a man? therefore are you not a man? d-: and nobody pays you to be a superuser for that matter so stop claiming you are one

Q: SD cards often mount read-only on Windows despite being unlocked and always working in cameras

hippietrailI have a HP netbook that's at least three years old and running Windows 7 Starter. I have a couple of 8 gig SDHC cards that I switch between my digital camera and the netbook. I've gone through half a dozen point-and-click cameras and none of them have ever complained that the SD card is write ...

@hippietrail are you using an adapter before insertomg it?
to change the size?

10:46 AM
@MeNoTalk: no adaptors. sorry i saw your comment on the site but not here.

no problem
then I guess the slot itself has a problem.. the sensor for the lock.. could be

dunno
this time it worked first time. sometimes i have to try three times.

Could be a million things, from problems with the card itself, to the slot.
Brainstorming here: how did you format the card? Which filesystem?

4:01 PM
I guess he formatted it using HDFS or GoogleFS...
@hippietrail is way smart to use FAT or NTFS..

:D

@JoErNanO can I ask u a question regarding patterns?
what is the pattern in which I define two interfaces, one of them has some of the methods in the other, exact same ones but not all of them, and then a class which inherits from both interfaces.. I am asking because I want to expose two versions of a service depending on the need, one with full methods and one with less methods.. is it even a correct way?

4:37 PM
@JoErNanO if you read the question you'll see it's too separate cards. in fact they're different brands and were bought at different times but each is a few years old. also no problems with any camera and they've been in half a dozen.
i didn't format the cards - used them as they were, which surely means FAT which all OSes have drivers for

4:50 PM
@MeNoTalk You are talking about multiple inheritance. Consider not all languages support it.
You could instead have one interface inherit and extend the other. Then you would have two implementations of each interface: one less detailed and one more detailed.
@hippietrail Often the camera asks you to format them, and you never know which filesystem they use.
That's why I asked.

5:10 PM
ah OK whenever a camera or computer has asked if I wanted to format either card I've said no, ejected the card, reinserted it, and it's worked without the format prompt

5:31 PM
beware the last point is to format the card
Also this thread contains some info: windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/…
You could also try to diagnose the problem using a live Linux distribution (scream at me if you have no idea how to go about this)
