> Volgende stap: een kooi met een gleufje waar ze je nog net je portemonnee kunnen door laten steken
LOL

@menotalk why are you still awake?
are you in my timezone?

almost, its 3:15 here
and Friday is first weekend day here
and, I love nights.. best time to program..

here is the latest trick i use to sleep..

What, in your opinion, should I do with the following question:

Q: Why is Uber in Rome more expensive than a regular taxi?

andraI have been using Uber on two occasions where I became quite a fan. Not only because of the ease of usage, but also because of the very interesting fees (cheap). When I arrived in Rome I noticed that Rome2Rio now includes Uber in their proposed routes. However, Uber seems to be more expensive the...

especially with this game (2048)... man its addictive

it appears to be incorrect
Uber is cheaper then a regular taxi
Rome2Rio is wrong in its price predictions

I use it in Jakarta.. and yes it is cheaper..

should I delete the question, or should I put that info

12:18 AM
the problem as mentioned in the answer.. you are going with the higher uber classes...

I love UBER
but even then, that is cheaper
we did a race yesterday through
one part of the group took a regular taxi
my group took uber

and..?

they paid 11 euro for the same trips where I paid 8 euro's

ouch!

they were driving a fiat multipla, I sat in a mercedes

12:19 AM
so, rome2rio is what to blame..

indeed
I am actually going to delete the question, since it is incorrect

here in Jeddah regular taxis do not use meters.. so i can get better prices with regular taxis.. but i love Uber..
yes.. better to delete it.. and email rome2rio..
anyway, i am sure they are using Uber API..

Can't delete it, so I wrote a disclaimer
Unfortunatly where I live the judges don't like modern technology
they forbid any new technology
"because it hurts the economy"

@andra can you give me a google link with the same trip you had, i wanna test the API and see what is the result..
if it is 25 EU then uber API is wrong, if it is less then rome2rio is wrong..
@andra u do not have uber where you live?
i agree with the judge anyway..

You mean the exam in the quesiton
or the one where I "raced"

12:24 AM
yes..
so i can get long+lat for start and end points
the one in the question so i have a reference

It is from the Termini train station in Rome to the Vatican
I went to the Vatican on monday
which I can really recommend
it is is impressive

I've been there..

And on my way to my hotel I met a group of students, which in the end turned out to be priests
it was funny

in 2012 or 2013.. cant remember..

Did you get into the vatican?
I came after 19.00 so I could only be on st pieter square

12:27 AM
not inside inside

Ah yes I forgot I need to make an update on my aviation question
the ash trays in b737 are definitly not inside but outside the lavatories

yes on the doors..

2 hours later…
2:40 AM
@MeNoTalk Deborah Lipstadt actually.

3:00 AM
@MarkMayo Have you watched the second episode yet? About Ethiopia? It's even better, and may provide enough to answer the question about trekking in Addis Ababa.

3 hours later…
5:48 AM
@GayotFow yeah watched last night, listened carefully and researched the places, but even lalibela is two days' drive from addis :(
@GayotFow, and mods @mindcorrosive @RoflcoptrException @ankur-banerjee there's this new 'visa specialist' guy, who seems to be posting a few random answers without links, and saying 'if you have further questions ask me'. Should we be keeping an eye on said people for possible misinformation/visa scams?
@GayotFow but yes, I enjoyed the second even more. And the bit about the Ark of the C, I hoped they'd try hunting it down a bit more but when you're banned from the church it's meant to be held in, it makes it tough
barred, not banned, that is

4 hours later…
9:55 AM
@andra flag it for moderation and explain the reasons for deleting it.
Also, why are you taking taxis? Get a daily pass for the metro (4Euros) and enjoy the ride with the rest of the Romans. :)

1 hour later…
11:25 AM
I thought I would add my twenty pence.

2 hours later…
1:24 PM
@MarkMayo regarding the 'visa specialist' there's an article I wrote here londonelegance.com/transpondia/spotting-bottom-feeders-0
@MarkMayo Regarding Ethiopia, the documentary pointed out that the locals are in the habit of making pilgrimages to various sacred sites. And there's not much difference between 'pilgrimage' and 'trek' from a logistics point of view. The only real problem I see is the stigma of being out of place... This could attract authorities.

2:07 PM
@joernano The daily pass costs 6 euro
but I wasn't in Rome for leisure. I really didn't have much time to explore
So I was in Rome for 4 days and I only saw my hotel en the vatican
I need to get back for a proper vistit and then I will definitely go for the metro

2:34 PM
greetings from melaka

3:06 PM
@andra Damn they increased it.

@hippietrail selamat datang

3:18 PM
New rules are coming in the beginning of 2015 that are even MORE restrictive. The answer will remain correct, but more people will be hit

@GayotFow what do you call these small medical centers in the UK?
G something?

A GP (General Practitioner) works in a 'Medical Centre' within the overall purview of the NHS. So you have the basic term, but spelled it wrong. Centre.

lol
I went there once, and they didn't charge me.. they even give me medicine for free. I was a student there back in 1998...

Students with a visa more than 6 months are ok.

nice..
US, with all its glory.. can't treat its citizens...

3:25 PM
but overall people are getting really angry about NHS abuse. Very angry
Americans think it is socialism and should be avoided

we have free medical care in saudi, but no one cares.. public hospitals are a disaster.. you need weeks before you get an appointment, unless its an emergency..

There's some of that here also. Some politicians want to privatise the NHS because of that

3:49 PM
November statistics published.
It differentiates from when people are just shooting from the hip :)

@MeNoTalk salamat something (-:

@hippietrail how is Melaka?

hot and wet and touristy (-:

nice

lucky guy! hope the weather's nice

4:00 PM
@hippietrail where are you heading next and when? after malaysia

i'm going back north to penang to meet some norwegian friends i knew in korea about three years ago. we'll go to langkawi and then up to laos or winter. at least that's the plan (-:

in days.. how long?

dunno. a week max. depends when/what i hear from my friends. you coming over?

No..
no plan
I was trying to find a seat on a flight to Indonesia using my free tickets.. but I wasn't able to..
so I was thinking of finding a flight to Indonesia using my discounted tickets on other airlines.. and I found one via KL..
for $140 USD
but then I found a direct one with Garuda for $100 usd..

4:29 PM
cheap!

as dirt, but with listing.. so it is space available ticket.. but I can get the status before heading to the airport

when are you going?

1-4th of DEC..

soon!
just for 3 days then?

no.. I am going anytime between 1st and 4th

4:35 PM
ah that was the other interpretation (-:

but will be staying for a month to take care of the kids while my wife recovers..

good job

I cant wait to get done with my job for good and do nothing but travel..

is that your plan?

mainly.. yes..

4:38 PM
are you wealthy now? (-:

no I am not..
will never be...
but, pension is what I am after...
early retirement...
so I can travel while I have my teeth... lol
since we have programmers here,, anyone can help me with this:

Q: Referencing a DLL that uses an older version of EF

MeNoTalkIn my WCF service project, I am using EF 6.1.1, in the same project I added a reference to a library that uses EF 4.3. Whenever I call any method in the library that needs EF it throws an error: Could not load file or assembly 'EntityFramework, Version=4.3.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken...

hey i still have one more tooth than most people my age (-:

I have much less teeth than you..

you're not supposed to eat bacon at all, crispy or not (-:

yes.. but I have a worse problem.. forgot the name..

4:46 PM
Bacon is evil? Is that your conclusion?

you know when you are stressed and keep pushing your jaws against each other.. I do that while I am sleeping.. slowly destroying my teeth

@MeNoTalk did you try a binding redirect in the app config? it usually helps for a while.

binding redirect... more info.. remember I am a cabin crew member...not a programmer ;)

grinding your teeth? the cleaner at the hostel i worked at has that too

@MeNoTalk Sleep with a mouthguard. Or get a dentist-approved one made-to-measure.

@JoErNanO: it seems the jews and muslims were right about that all along

:D

@GayotFow that will cause a problem as well... the project actually uses both versions, old and new..

our hostel cleaner could destroy any mouthguard the dentists gave him so he says

so, if I redirect, I will have the code that uses the new version to stop working.

4:51 PM
sounds like a bodge

@hippietrail I do not have it that severe.. but its breaking the molars..

try switching to C dull, it's a much safer language than the sharp one you're struggling with now

@GayotFow maybe, I would upgrade EF to a newer version, except that the API itself changed and it will require a lot of refactoring..
@hippietrail C DLL... really...

two friends of mine just cracked molars too. i'm the only one who went straight for the bigshot tooth

@hippietrail that front tooth is really a problem... but at least makes you look younger..

4:52 PM
it was a C# joke - you missed it d-;

since it is common in toddlers.. just saying
ahaaaaa
c dull :D

toddlers and meth junkies

you'll need to investigate the adapter pattern.

adapter pattern.. let me check my patterns book..
@GayotFow no actually i do not need that..
this DLL is just a shared business logic..

pull your finger out and do the refactoring!

4:55 PM
i am trying to follow SoC
and DRY
so, all shared logic in a common library..
now, i am making a new project, which needs that common logic.. but i am using the newer EF in the new project.. and hence the conflict..
@hippietrail, can hence be replaces with thus in some contexts?

probably but here hence is perfect and thus would sound odd

ok thanks

Should have called it C flat.
@MeNoTalk hence is more therefore than thus imho

you mean, thus is less therefore-y?

i was going to say C blunt but dull just sounded more fun
thus is literally "(in) this way"

5:11 PM
I can write an EF adapter suitable for n-tier deployment for about GBP 15k - 20k.

Q: Fine semantic differences between "thus" and "therefore"

CruI have seen a few Q&A's with this title but none really reflects my question. I am aware both are adverbs and so forth and how they syntactically can be used equivalently, but what about connotations? Are there places where "therefore" is preferred over thus and vice versa? Are there any fine dif...

@GayotFow EF adapter... ?
a wrapper you mean?

I had a commission for one earlier this year, took about 2 weeks

I do programming as a hobby...
and i enjoy it..

@MeNoTalk no, not a wrapper.

5:23 PM
i just upgraded the EF in the library.. it was an easy task actually.. Microsoft made it easy.. they have a page on how to upgrade..

Best strategy is to remove any dependency on EF from the main code.

well, if i was planning to use a different database provider..
but i am not.. so i can consider the auto generated code as a separate layer
plus, with the EF 6 templates, the generated entities are POCOS with no EF coupling at all..
so i can use them as DTOs...
unlike in EF 4 or previous..
the entities are generated with proxies and shit.. not any more..
plus, the template generate file (.tt) is in a separate project, and it is shared across all projects..

you should hang out your shingle!

@GayotFow English please :D
remember, i am a crew member.. not a programmer :D
I did not have a proper "computer" education ;)

5:30 PM
still didn't get it :D

It means take on commissions for developing stuff

hahahahahaha
no way. i suck at programming..
told u, it is hobby.. never took it seriously..
programming is difficult.. and confusing.. especially if it is not your job..

5:54 PM
Still, wrapper/adapter paradigms are good to learn. Could be a good exercise.

@JoErNanO that's the spirit!!!

That's (was) my job.
Ran away from software development.
Faster than Usain Bolt.

6:40 PM
@JoErNanO I am on it!
