Q: Fruit peels as alternative to store-bought fertilizer?

THelperI've read somewhere that (organic) banana peels make a good fertilizer. You simply cut them up into small pieces and bury those around the plants in your garden. But how effective are banana peels compared to an organic fertilizer you'd buy from a store? Could I feed my roses and herb and veget...

@OrganicLawnDIY Hi! I have a bad cold which was a present from my husband (usually his gifts are much better!) so I just did a cursory search for you, but found two places that appear to offer express shipping. dianeseeds.com/seeds/shipping.html... and territorialseed.com/shipping... I do most of my ordering from Park because they have great customer service, including chat which I like cuz I'm hearing-impaired.
I've even spoken to a very patient horticulturist there. I don't need them now-I have my own experts right here:) Their seeds germinate well too, good for a beginner like me. They do have lag times for shipping though, and frequently stuff ends up on back order with no warning, like you said. I hope you find some place.
Did you find the Globe Amaranth seeds? I saw them somewhere-will check if you still need them.
@J.Musser I have two shiny new badges! One is a Notable Question cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/48914/…... ! I never thought that could happen to me! The other is "Civic Duty" here on GL! Now I have to figure out how to get to 1,000 rep. The questions coming in are good and are being answered by our experts-awesome but I can't answer anything!
I have another tree question but I think the answer will be-cut it down :)
@OrganicLawnDIY Does that mean the vinca is dangerous to outside critters as well?

@Sue @Sue sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well but thanks for the links. Park is the one I'm most annoyed with as their shipping is really slow but I like how they package most of their seeds in foil.
@Sue Not sure if vinca is dangerous to other animals I just go by what the ASPCA lists which is usually just dogs, cats and sometimes horses. Most animals seem to know to stay away from poisonous plants I guess. Here's the ASPC page on Vinca aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/…

@Sue More than one answer is good too! If you notice anything someone missed, like I did here, you can just drop a quick answer.
@Sue Congrats on the badges! You keep being awesome and I really appreciate it!

Q: Can I force a dormant forsythia branch to bloom by bringing it inside?

SueI live in Massachusetts, where we have approximately three feet of snow in the yard, and the temperature has been well below freezing nearly every day for the last two months. In an article in yesterday's local newspaper, a horticulturist wrote that even though our forsythias will likely flower l...
