I don't understand why daijirin has 「人が何か云ふと,ちやんと逃道を拵らへて待つてるんだから,余つ程―だ」〈坊っちゃん漱石〉 next to it
oh, I didn't see the ー at the end where it goes
I forgot how to use dictionaries :(

Q: _っ_り form adverbs

KingPumpkinI keep seeing these onomatopoeic adverbs popping up with the form: _っ_り. Some examples include ぐっすり、ぴったり、すっくり、etc…. Is there a name for these adverbs, and why are they in this specific form?

Anonymous
I see a snail _っ_り

Anonymous
Conflating category and function . . .

Huh: "the particle to 'as if' is used". I've never seen that gloss for that と.

Anonymous
Martin breaks the morphological shape of Japanese adverbs into 7 categories

Anonymous
1:49 AM
He doesn't give a name for ◯っ◯り though

Anonymous
It's just group 2

Anonymous
Martin calls the adverbial と the subjective essive

Anonymous
Versus に, which he calls the objective essive (or copula infinitive)

Anonymous
I think certain linguists consider both に and と to be copula forms with different characters

Anonymous
I don't think essive ever caught on as a label, since I've only ever seen Martin use it for this form

Anonymous
1:51 AM
But then, Martin has his own terminological universe

@snailboat or 大好物

Anonymous
I didn't notice how similar 好物 and 奸物 appeared until you pointed it out!

3:06 AM
奸物の好物は干物。
好物と女物、奸物が持つ?
It's annoying that neither 干物 or 女物 are pronounced correctly for these to actually work.

1 hour later…
4:27 AM
Ah, that was a silly answer. :)

4:42 AM
is it just me who sees 干物女 there?

すっくり→すっきり I assume? — ssb 4 hours ago

@ssb You're probably right, but there's also すっかり, of course!

Anonymous
I guess for the purposes of the question it doesn't really matter which one it's changed to, since they're just asking about them in general

Anonymous
So I'll edit it to say すっきり

I don't know . . . maybe they're asking about both

@Choko my midi keyboard isn't working right :(

I'm practicing guitar . . . :-)

the mod wheel is broken on mine

You can just get another mod wheel and hook it up

well, it's still under warranty so I just have to bring it to a nearby music store and they'll send it in for repairs for me

ssb
The first one was an M-Audio Oxygen 61
that lasted a while before it started sending a bunch of random midi data

Anonymous
Ohh, one of those little controller keyboards!

ssb
then I got an M-Audio Axiom Air 61

Anonymous
American!

ssb
that worked pretty well for a few weeks but it has issues with the entire keyboard freezing
so I sent it back
third and current one is a Novation Impulse 61
I think Novation is in the UK

this Novation one has semi-weighted keys which I really like

that's a full synthesizer though, isn't it?

I do already have a Nord Electro 2 and a Nord Lead 3

ssb
I've never had a hardware synth

I suppose I wouldn't need the Electro 2 anymore

Anonymous
So I could sell that

Anonymous
But it's too expensive

Anonymous
Even if I sold the Electro and my old piano

ssb
8:54 AM
wow!
that is a lot

I find it's a little bit easier to make a guitar "sing"

Rosin, also called colophony or Greek pitch (Pix græca), is a solid form of resin obtained from pines and some other plants, mostly conifers, produced by heating fresh liquid resin to vaporize the volatile liquid terpene components. It is semi-transparent and varies in color from yellow to black. At room temperature rosin is brittle, but it melts at stove-top temperatures. It chiefly consists of different resin acids, especially abietic acid. The term "colophony" comes from colophonia resina or "resin from the pine trees of Colophon," an ancient Ionic city. == Uses == Rosin is an ingredient in...
