Yeah, again, still gives you a disadvantage that otherwise wouldn't be there @murgatroid99

Yes, I know that. But if the line of play is obvious, then shortcutting to it isn't a significant disadvantage

Mmhmm, I agree

What exactly is the disadvantage? Can you spell it out for someone that doesn't see it?
Oh nvm. I was missing context. Floating mana
Had to scroll further up

Yep, basically

This is one of those situations where I think that the board state needs to be used to make a proper ruling, but I understand that asking judges to consider the board state would lead to all sorts of inconsistencies.
I'm happy with the way it is, given the alternative

Is it bad that I never knew of the 'review' section of stack exchange until today?

6:18 PM
@Waterseas I don't think so. I was pretty excited each time I got a new privilege for the first time, but you might not be.

Dun even have a clue what priveleges I've unlocked

@Waterseas You can check here: boardgames.stackexchange.com/help/privileges

Thanks, arqade's the only one I have a decent amount unlocked on

@Waterseas You get notified when you unlock it. That doesn't help you much now but it might later.

Ahh, alright, makes sense

6:32 PM
I think you may only get notified for each privilege the first time you unlock it on any site. But I'm not sure, because I haven't unlocked any new privileges anywhere for a while.

1 hour later…

Also just saw the blog that you guys were talking about about moving out of main phase. Absolutely hate it

8:15 PM
"If my opponent has mana floating in my main phase 1, am I able to say "Move to beginning of combat step to let your mana empty from your mana pool?", so that I don't give away whether I wish to activate my man land or use my lands in main phase 2 to cast additional spells?

Rob McKenzie Yep, just spell it out, I'd be a little more explicit than that, but if you are really clear you are trying to deviate from the shortcut, and your opponent understands what you are doing, that is the important thing.

> Priority is a nebulous concept
What comprehensive rule book was this guy reading?

Context, this person is the USA-North regional judge coordinator

Priority is more strictly defined than any tournament shortcut

You did read the second half of that sentence, right? "and is oftentimes hard to get across language barriers"

I read it. It just doesn't make sense to me. How can something strictly defined in the CR be harder to communicate than something loosely defined in the TR?

8:25 PM
I'm not entirely certain what he means by it, but no reason to not ignore the semantics of that phrase, not the important part

What?

I can't parse that sentence you just wrote

"Ignore the semantics of that phrase, not the important part (of the comment as a whole)"

By "that phrase", you mean "Pass priority in my main phase"?

8:28 PM
No, the phrase " because priority is a nebulous concept "

My point is, however you phrase it, treating "Pass priority in my main phase" as meaning anything other than exactly what it says doesn't make sense to me.
It has an unambiguous meaning, defined in the CR, and I think that redefining it is likely to confuse players who are more familiar with the CR than with the TR.

Neither does "Move to beginning of combat step" to me, but that's how high level judges are interpreting it.
My intent behind posting that discussion was to show how to properly indicate you wish to get priority in beginning of combat step

That just seems to place too much onus on the active player. Why should they be required to spell out so explicitly and verbosely something that is already defined in the rules?

Again, I agree, no reason to keep arguing an argument not being made

OK. I thought you were. Sorry
