If Ugin is played at {8}, I imagine that The Great Aurora could be played at {9}. Also notice that it doesn't say basic lands, so you could drop a bunch of Radiant Fountains after resetting the board to recover a little bit of life.

Have you guys seen the rules update? magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/…
Notably, the new mulligan rule

@Rainbolt Schwaaaaaaaaa!? [reads]

Remember, so far they're just evaluating it at the Pro Tour

@murgatroid99 I see that now. My group will probably try it too.

2:45 AM
I think it's good. It seems like it will protect slightly from dumb games due to bad mulligans without actually messing up the advantage of consistency

IMO they chose the only complicated way of doing it
Keep in mind that if everyone has more consistency, then nobody has more consistency
Adding scry adds complexity to the rule
So the end result is more complexity + across the board increase in consistency
If someone was complaining about bad hands before, then in a few years you'll start seeing a whole new breed of complaints.

It seems only marginally more complex to me

I agree, but at what gain?

And I think that an across-the-board increase in consistency was kind of the whole point

So start with eight cards. Or a free mulligan before moving to Paris mulligans
Something so easy a newbie can jump right in
Eight cards IMO seems easiest

2:55 AM
That would drastically change the whole game
So much more than this

Just as drastic as free mulligans

I have to go, for now

Think of the miracles and delvers
Oh wait, that doesn't work
(You need mana to miracle because duh)
I hope they come up with something cleaner

@murgatroid99 yeah, i think it's good. you can more safely mulligan down to 6 or 5, and then maybe have a bit more control over what you get next.
"oh boy, i've finally got three lands. i hope my next card isn't a land!" says the person who then draws a land.
i wonder what the pro tour will turn up for how well it works out for game health.

Considering asking this on main, but not looking forward to the "No, what made you think you could do that?" answer. Basically, I want to know if my local game store can try out the new mulligan rules at DCI sanctioned events like FNM.

3:12 PM
Are you expecting to get any answer besides "Sanctioned events have to follow the Comprehensive Rules as they currently exist"?

Not really, but there's always the hope that someone finds a loophole that would allow us to use the new rules early.
I guess it's better that I decided to post in chat.

Q: Should answers link to their sources?

RainboltA comment discussion recently started on this answer about whether answers should link to their sources. In case the comments get deleted, here is a summary: Bob: Links to citations please. Joe: Nobody else does, so I don't need to. Plus, any links to the rules will quickly be outdated. W...

@murgatroid99 You there?
I am having trouble interpreting your answer. Are you saying that there should be no indication of where the quote came from? Not even a note that it came from the Comprehensive Rules?
From my question:
> I'm not saying that we need MLA or APA style citations on every post, but there should be some indication of where the quote came from.
You started your answer with "I disagree" but I want to make sure I understand what you disagree with.
If you think they should at least mention that it came from the comprehensive rules, but a link isn't required, then we actually agree and you might want to revise your answer.
I actually need you to edit to release my downvote. I got confused by the "I disagree" and had to reread it a few times before I fully understood.

I'm editing right now to clarify that
@Rainbolt I think I've sufficiently clarified the points you mentioned

+1 from me. I'm a little annoyed that the comments on the question are so ridiculously long already.
Jefromi tried to tell me that my real question is specific to Magic. Never ceases to amaze me with his mind reading abilities.
I wanted to make "all topics" the primary question and allow answer authors to address Magic if they choose to.
But I don't guess that made him very happy

Yeah, I'm not getting into this argument with you

Good strategy

Somehow, I never really made the connection before that Gaea's Cradle, Serra's Sanctum, and Tolarian Academy were all printed in the same set

Earlier this month, we had a meta topic about changing [settlers-of-catan] to [catan] due to the game's 2015 rebranding.

Q: Changing "Settlers of Catan" tags due to rebranding as "Catan"

ThunderforgeEarlier this year, Settlers of Catan was rebranded so that the name of the game is simply Catan. The expansions were similarly rebranded. For instance, Seafarers of Catan is now called Catan: Seafarers. We have the tag settlers-of-catan, which is what all questions related to the game are tagge...

We're at +6, nobody has given reasons not to, and it's been three weeks since the topic was started.
Can some action be taken on this?
I'm not sure if a mod needs to do it or if someone with sufficiently high reputation can do it.

10:40 PM
@ire_and_curses @PatLudwig Someone's asking about mods in chat.

Thanks, Jefromi
