hi @akhmeteli

12:34 AM
@Mew, skimming through SE terms of service
I think they legitimately cover everything
I will start adapting them, but we may want a real legal opinion
As, you know, I'm not a lawyer

I'm seeing @mew, you are commenting in many homework related physics and physics meta posts citing the new site. While, at least to me, this is not wrong, maybe this seems a bit much to promote in such a way. There are other sites too which are meant for h/w queries; so it would be a bit biased to post frequently about your site. Currently the comment looks to fine to me, albeit.

user116211
There is better and efficient way to promote your site.

user116211
Firstly, create a post about the site here:

Q: My question was closed on Phys.SE. Can you recommend me another internet site where my question might be on-topic?

sigoldberg1My question was closed1 on Phys.SE. Can you recommend me another internet site where my question might be on-topic? Here we keep a list of other internet sites that might help students2 of physics. One site per answer. To keep the list at a reasonable size, please only include sites which fulfil...

And then there is Community Ad proposal:

Q: Community Promotion Ads - 2016

Grace Note N.B. The size requirements for adverts have changed. It is NOT appropriate to simply copy over the images from previous years - they won't work. Images need to be 300×250px or 600×500px for retina displays, up from 220×250px in previous years. If an image is taller than it is wide, it's t...

In this way, you can promote your site more efficiently.

user116211
And of course, it's just my opinion.

Mew
5:45 AM
@MAFIA36790, this isn't correct, I haven't been commenting on questions promotoing the new site
what makes you think that I have?

7:59 AM
@Mew Are you going to use a creative commons license ?

Mew
@S007, do you think we should?

Anonymous
yes

Anonymous
a professional looking website is more attractive to people

Anonymous
also to prevent copying of contents

Mew
A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created.

Anonymous
8:14 AM
yeah...and it also prevents copying without attribution

Mew
not necessarily
oh k
i don't think that's ri9ght

Anonymous
@Mew what ?

Mew
not all CC require attribution
it depends on the specific form of the CC licence

Anonymous
You need to choose the CC

Mew
many CC allow copying without attribvution

Anonymous
8:16 AM
depending on your need

Mew
yup

Anonymous
and i would say prevent copying without attribution

Mew
ok

Anonymous
and make it non-commercial

Mew
what's that mean?

Anonymous
8:17 AM
someone might just want to use our content to make money....by several ways like copying content and using ads on their website

Anonymous
that will be disastrous

Mew
ah k

Anonymous
so choose a non-commercial license

Anonymous
ok

Mew
did you see the new site layout?

Anonymous
8:18 AM
yes...that seems good

Mew
I"m going to add a header at the top with a logo and background
I'm working on the log now
logo
@S007, do you think qandaexchange.com is different enough from stackexchange.com?

Anonymous
@Mew Yes i think it is much different.

Anonymous
But I would say we need more people to answer questions

Anonymous
So please do not advertise the site now

Mew
i mean the actual name
e.g. both have the word "exchange" in it

Anonymous
8:21 AM
@Mew so what? It sounds cool

Anonymous
@Mew How? It is not by any stretch of logic.

Mew
just because both have the same word init
ur probably right

Anonymous
I don't think that matters....

Anonymous

Mew
I think the above is good
CC-SA

Anonymous
8:35 AM
No it allows commercial use

Anonymous
Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
for any purpose, even commercially.
The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

Mew
@S007 that's ok SE model uses that
SE model uses CC-SA so I think that will be ok

Anonymous
but do you really want to allow commercial use ?

Mew
yeah I think it will be fine if it is attribution
attributed*

Anonymous
Ok as you wish

Mew
12:43 PM
Logo has now been added

@Mew, it looks great

Mew
Thanks heather :)

the logo is awesome - plain and simple, yet still clearly a physics site

Mew
cool
I would like to put a banner behind it too

that would be pretty nice

Mew
12:47 PM
a favicon should be up soon too with the logo
so the tab will have a logo in it rather than just a blank paper which i think it is now

heather has removed an event from this room's schedule.

@Mew, yes, sounds good

Anonymous
1:04 PM
@Mew The icon looks really nice. Could you add buttons for "Meta" instead of placing it on the right bottom as a text ?

Mew
of course mate

Anonymous
cool :-D

Anonymous
@heather good morrow and hope you are feeling less awkward now :-P

@S007, rather, yes.

Anonymous
:-D

1:07 PM
So, basically, I read through your previous conversation

Anonymous
whose ?

And it seems like the licensing is figured out
@S007, yours and @Mew's

Anonymous
yup we will use CC

CC-BY-SA? or just CC?
the first one is what emilio recommended

Anonymous
yeah the one Mew linked at last...the commercial one...

Anonymous
1:08 PM
SE uses that

yes

Anonymous
what did emilio recommend ?

cc-by-sa
stack exchange uses it, as does wikipedia
and it means we can have content from either of their sites on our site if we have that license

Anonymous
yeah we will use that only

A: Physics Problem Solving Site

Emilio PisantyI'll just post a quick note regarding your questions on 'migration' Would you be okay with us copying over (and attributing) some of your closed questions that would be on-topic at our site? All of the user-contributed content on the Stack Exchange platforms is licensed under a Creative Com...

his advice:
"I would recommend a CC BY-SA license as on SE sites and Wikipedia (which among other nice things enables you to use content from SE and Wikipedia), but ultimately it's up to you. Just choose something, and don't leave it in the air."

Mew
1:10 PM
I agree we should use CC by SA

yes

Anonymous
yes we will use that :-)

Mew
I'd appreciate if one of you could build up a T&C statement and privacy policy

yes, it is almost done

Mew
oh awesome :)

Anonymous
1:11 PM
@heather show it when done

Mew
Once done I am able to confgure so that users must agree to it before signing up

i think the SE policy will be basically sufficient, of course with the appropriate names substituted in. especially because our site is like SE
@S007, will do
though I'm also looking at elements from sites like Wikipedia
just to see.

Mew
cool
I'm looking into fixing the mathjax rendering issue
It is interesting that in the preview the mathjax renders perfectly, just not in the final output for some cases

yes, it is kind of strange.

Mew
What is happening in one case is the text editor is removing the "_" in some cases
not all "_" are being removed but some are

Anonymous
1:13 PM
@Mew You should check the code for preview generation maybe and compare with the final answer generation code....and maybe you can put up your problem on Stack Overflow

Mew
@S007, the mathjax code is the same
yeah i will comprae the rest
and if I get stuck I will post up a question good idea

Anonymous
Just post it on Stack Overflow...they are very helpful guys :-)

Anonymous
okay

Mew
alright i gtg to bed
I'll be back in 19 hours

good night

Mew
1:15 PM
goodnight
laterz

I'll have the T&C ready by then

Mew
awesome

Anonymous
@Mew well what is the time there ?

Anonymous
:-P

Anonymous
and gd night

Mew
1:15 PM
it is 11:15PM here

Anonymous
ow...wow :-)...tata

geesh, yeah
good night.

Anonymous
@heather Are you copying from here ? stackexchange.com/legal/terms-of-service

@S007, to some extent, yes, but not completely.
@Mew, sorry, but are we using cookies?
just need to know whether or not to include that disclaimer.

Anonymous
@heather Which disclaimer are you talking about? Can you show the paragraph ?

1:22 PM
Information we get from your use of the network is primarily non-personally- identifying information of the sort that web browsers, servers, and services like Google Analytics* typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the time of each visit. Other non-identifying information that we might have access to includes how you use the service (e.g., search queries), your approximate location, cookies, etc.
^for instance

Anonymous
@heather Yes include that because the moderators can already view those information like network usage and location of users

Anonymous
and the ip address too

@S007, that's one example
I just need to know if we use cookies
that's all

Anonymous
@heather yes we do already

we use cookies? okay

Anonymous
1:26 PM
i told you why ^

ok

Mew
Guys

Anonymous
because we know the ip address of visitors

Mew
The headings have been moved
check it out
goodnight

Anonymous
@Mew we use cookies, right ?

Anonymous
1:27 PM
i hope so

Anonymous
and yeah the new design is cool

@Mew, that is awesome!

Mew
yay

=D

Mew
I have the option to use cookies so better to include in T&Cs just in case

1:28 PM
okay

Anonymous
@Mew thanks

thanks

Anonymous
@heather you might find this helpful iubenda.com/en

okay, thanks

Anonymous
2:04 PM
@Mew you can use a pop up privacy policy by using this code

Anonymous
<a href="//www.iubenda.com/privacy-policy/7947831" class="iubenda-black iubenda-embed" title="Privacy Policy">Privacy Policy</a><script type="text/javascript">(function (w,d) {var loader = function () {var s = d.createElement("script"), tag = d.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; s.src = "//cdn.iubenda.com/iubenda.js"; tag.parentNode.insertBefore(s,tag);};

Anonymous
if(w.addEventListener){w.addEventListener("load", loader, false);}else if(w.attachEvent){w.attachEvent("onload", loader);}else{w.onload = loader;}})(window, document);</script>

Anonymous
that will seem nice :)

Anonymous
hope so

@S007, did you create the privacy policy?
Or do I still need to do it?

Anonymous
2:13 PM
@heather No, I was just showing the format. We can use a pop up privacy policy instead of one hidden among the meta posts

Anonymous
that was the format for a pop up privacy policy

Anonymous

Anonymous
@heather how does it look ?

Yes, that is true. But obviously it is not completed.
However, I'm not sure I like that site because some of the things we need to use are "pro" features and you have to pay money for that.

Anonymous
@heather no it is free

Anonymous
2:16 PM
we dont need pro

Anonymous
features

cookies is a pro feature

Anonymous
no need to mention cookies as we are already mentioning the data collected from users explicitly...and even if we need just write it in meta

Anonymous
don't have to worry abt cookies

yes we do, Mew specifically said
this is legal stuff we can't just blow something off!

Anonymous
2:23 PM
I told that write it in a meta post.......

Anonymous

7:55 PM
@Mew, I've got the T&C ready, and I have some important stuff about it to discuss with you. I'll be on until 7pm tonight and I'll be back on around at 6:30am tomorrow (this is CST) but I'll have to leave again at 7:10am. Most of the discussion stuff is changes like what email we put in for contact info, what address we put in, what our official "corporation" name is, stuff like that. And there's a big part we need to go over. It's based off of the SE policy.

Anonymous
Hmm, post it on the site and we will check it and edit it there only. If you feel, you can put the post in hide mode to prevent voting.

Mew
10:36 PM
I don't believe it is correct for you to change the best answer the asker has selected just because you think your right and they're wrong
I agree your answer is looking at total work, and mine is looking at work done on the spring
but it is not for moderators to change the best answer selected by the user, in such a short period of time anyway
I think it is better to allow the user time to read both and make a decision themselves
We could discuss this issue in Meta
Physics overflow has removed the whole idea of best answers and instead relies only on votes which is a possibility
