Tonight will be (Shulchan Aruch paskens I can say this) the 30th Night of the Omer.
Shemot 16-- this year, the anniversary of the first Manna-day will fall out on Tuesday!
Rabbi Menachem Liebtag, in a shir he taught to my seventh grade class, worked out that the very first Manna-day was actually on a Sunday.
(Based on Chazal and Torah.)

@ephraimhelfgot The Chosam Sofer (Shut 2:233) believes that the Manna began falling on lag b'omer
@IsaacMoses thanks for the bounty!

@Matt Thanks for the insights!
@ephraimhelfgot I can think of four reasons that this message wouldn't have fulfilled your obligation and endangered your ability to make a beracha later.

1:18 AM
@IsaacMoses My dad, who is a Rabbi, once told me that the Shulchan Aruch ruled that you don't have to do the whole "29+1" thing when it's not zman sefirah.
@Matt How? They arrived in Midbar Sin on the fifteenth of Iyar, or the 31st day of the Omer, and it the pasuk doesn't say anything more than 'the next morning'-- ie. the 32nd.

Can anyone share with me traditional Jewish understanding of Daniel 7? Links are fine for now and then if I have questions beyond the scope of the sources, I can ask specifically.

1:54 AM
@ephraimhelfgot mesora/hora-a from your father/rabbi, quoting Maran. Can't get a more solid basis for Halachic behavior than that.
@Sarah to my shame, I have yet to study Daniel myself, so I can't offer anything substantive, but to get an authoritatively traditional Jewish reading of any part of Tanach, studying it with Rashi's commentary is a good first bet. Here's Daniel 7 with Rashi.
Shlomo Yitzchaki (Hebrew: רבי שלמה יצחקי‎; 22 February 1040 – 13 July 1105), in Latin: Salomon Isaacides, and today generally known by the acronym Rashi (Hebrew: רש"י, RAbbi SHlomo Itzhaki), was a medieval French rabbi and author of a comprehensive commentary on the Talmud and commentary on the Tanakh. Acclaimed for his ability to present the basic meaning of the text in a concise and lucid fashion, Rashi appeals to both learned scholars and beginning students, and his works remain a centerpiece of contemporary Jewish study. His commentary on the Talmud, which covers nearly all of the Babylonian...

Thoughts on rolling back to revision 3? judaism.stackexchange.com/posts/71471/revisions
@IsaacMoses who is here now

8:04 PM
I just edited this question based on comments and the parameters of the forum now that I begin to understand you and the forum better. I wonder now if the answer is obsolete to the question. judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/71265/… Let me know if I can improve it further.

I personally like the way the question stands as that is what I want to learn--the JEwish understanding of the messiah upon which you wait; however, If someone would like to help me find a better way to approach the original question that would not make the answer obsolete, I would be happy to roll back and try again. Perhaps the question as it stands now could be reposted as a new quesiton.

Q: How tall were the Jerusalem temples?

Mr. BultitudeThere were two temples in Jerusalem. I've seen conflicting statements about their heights. So this is a few questions in one: What was the average height (from the foundation) of each of the two temples? How tall was the highest point (from the foundation) of each of the two temples? How high a...

8:58 PM
@Mr.Bultitude I can confirm the claim from Middot.

@DoubleAA I think LN6595 ought to edit in an actual citation with page number. I think that your revision 3 falls short of that and adds editorial comment that's distracting. I agree with and have upvoted all but one of the comments on the answer.

A: Meya - mi yodeya?

msh210In the second בית המקדש, the היכל building (including the אולם) was 100 אמות tall by 100 אמות long by (at its widest point) 100 אמות wide. (Source: mishnayos Midos.)

9:14 PM
@IsaacMoses I only added what he said
He can certainly improve more, but editing in clarification from a comment is SOP, no?

@DoubleAA I know. He didn't say it well.
@DoubleAA Yes. I guess reverting back to Revision 3 would be an improvement but still quite sub-ideal. Much better, if possible, to get him to give an actual citation than to fight an edit war over sub-ideal territory. But that's a tactical judgement call.

@DoubleAA What does SOP mean?

9:29 PM
@ephraimhelfgot "standard operating procedure" (term is not MY-specific)

@IsaacMoses Sorry. כבד פה וכבד לשון אנכי.

@ephraimhelfgot nothing to be sorry about. Clarifying jargon as necessary is SOP around here

Does anyone know if anyone publishes Rashi's commentary in English in as clear a format as this only available in hard copy? : chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/9982#showrashi=true&v=1

10:52 PM
@Sarah Artscroll has a 5 volume edition of the Torah with Rashi's commentary in interspersed English/Hebrew (with footnotes). I don't believe they have a similar product for the rest of Tanakh.

11:10 PM
@magicker72 Oh, thank you! maybe the whole Tanakh: artscroll.com/Products/… but not in English and I have a long way to go with Hebrew.

Tonight will be/is the 31st night of the Omer.

11:26 PM
@Sarah No, that also only contains the Torah. In fact, it's the travel version of the 5-volume set I linked to above. They also make a large-size 5-volume version.

11:37 PM
@magicker72 Ah! yes, I see this. I do see it does have english, I just was looking at the wrong page. Thank you. I guess untill I get better with Hebrew I will read online.
