Q: Recovering from a rm -rf /

bleemboyI run a small hosting provider with more or less 1535 customers and I use Ansible to automate some operations to be run on all servers. Last night I accidentally ran, on all servers, a Bash script with a rm -rf {foo}/{bar} with those variables undefined due to a bug in the code above this line. ...

Q: Are questions about the Hebrew language on-topic?

WendiKiddThere's been a proposal on Area51 for a Hebrew Language SE for a while now, but as it isn't open yet, is it appropriate to ask a question about the Hebrew language here?

Q: Significance of trope discrepancy

DanielIn the Moroccan reading of Tzariah 14:59 there is a cantillation (a talesha) on first word “zot” In the Chabad version here that trope is missing זֹאת תּוֹרַ֨ת נֶֽגַע־צָרַ֜עַת בֶּ֥גֶד הַצֶּ֣מֶר What is the reason for this? Is it normal that tropes are added or are missing between texts? Up...

@DoubleAA why did you ping me? Daniel should just delete the answer and overhaul the question.

@IsaacMoses Nothing specific, just you were here
@IsaacMoses Well until that point and if he never does, shuold i delete the answer, roll back the edit, or close the question as unclear?

@DoubleAA he's generally pretty active here and responsive
I think that unilaterally deleting the answer and overhauling the question wouldn't be unfair in this case, given that they came from the same person in short order, and that he's shown already that he's actually more interested in the broader question

Q: How quick should we be to close vs help

user6591There are times when a certain question is proposed to be off topic. See the comments to Who were the original users of Ktav Ashuri? for a recent discussion. There is an obvious quick fix to keep that particular question on topic. How quick should we be to close it, leaving the OP wondering exa...

@Aaron No one here is that agency. I'm sorry that you're frustrated, but as I guess you're seeing, taking out your frustrations on people who are trying to maintain a Q&A forum is not going to be helpful to you or to them.
(Courtesy ping @IsaacMoses since I quoted you.)

@msh210 natural language is messy

@IsaacMoses Yes. But the insistence (not just @DoubleAA 's here but all over MSE) that SE isn't a forum is IMO a little silly. It is a forum, a discussion place. It's just a different kind of forum, for a different kind of discussion. That's what should be emphasized, and jumping down someone's throat because he called it a forum -- a question on MSE that calls SE a forum invariably gets a comment correcting it -- is missing the point. No offense, @DoubleAA, it's not you, it's the whole culture.

@msh210 the word "forum," in normal English, certainly describes SE. There's also a pervasive model of "Internet forum" that SE adamantly isn't. People do frequently make the mistake of mapping SE sites into that model, e.g., calling Q&As "threads", or trying to post follow-ups or musings as answers. I think it's important to correct when people seem to be applying that model.

@IsaacMoses I agree completely.
