I think the appropriate answer to this is a refutation of the assumptions.

Q: The Second Temple

user5068I'm a BT of just over 5 yrs now, struggling but studying hard (50 yrs of 'catch-up'!). I think of myself as a Chassidic Jew. I'm still intrigued, yet in a quandary about the validity of the 2nd Temple. It didn't survive very long, and, there was no Aron HaKodesh. Also, the Temple was designed/bui...

Can a mod reopen it so I can answer?

@SethJ Answer to what? I have no idea what the asker means to ask. (Thus,
@SethJ not I.)
... Unless you/someone can explain (preferably with an edit) what the question is.

@SethJ There's no answerable question there. Why should it be reopened?

I third.

1:52 AM
I'm projecting, but the OP doesn't seem to be returning to make changes, so I figured I'd read into it what I feel like makes an ok question. Any better?

any opinions on if I took too much liberty with this question and if it should be reopened now?

3:34 AM
@YEZ That user is not fly-by-night. I think we can wait until he or she returns to the site and approves of your edits or makes his or her own. MHO.
... I've now commented there to that effect.

3:47 AM
@SethJ Better question IMO. The question then is whether it reflects the OP's intent. My own instinct is to give it more time and see if she returns. I'm not sure.

@DoubleAA Cool

5:21 PM
@DoubleAA I'm on the board. :)

6:03 PM
@IsaacMoses Is there any way to scrape translations we have here already?

@DoubleAA @HodofHod would probably be a better person to ask that than I. Do we have a large number of our own translations here?

6:20 PM
@IsaacMoses good luck winning the iPad!

@MonicaCellio :) Thanks. Unlikely, given that I probably won't be able to contribute on the same order of magnitude as the pack-leaders. It's a great project to take even a tiny part in, though.

@IsaacMoses yes, any contribution you make benefits everybody, and if you happen to get lucky maybe you'll win something else.

Joel Spolsky tweeted [for the second time] about Purim - Mi Yodeya?, and minutes later, Twitter went down, probably due to the instant hoards of frenzied retweets of that tweet. Oh, well. Anyway, thanks largely to Joel's tweets, we've passed 450 views of the landing page since P-MY went live.

SEO gone right: If you search Google for Purim Torah (or "Purim Torah", for that matter), the first result is WP, and the second result is MY. (Tested in private mode, so the search isn't colored by my cookies.)

Do we have the biggest/best repository of Purim Torah on the Internet? Quite possibly. Is there any other genre/topic for which this is true, or for which this could be true, if we try?

YEZ
@IsaacMoses think anyone else has 172 questions about ?

8:40 PM
@YEZ clothing halacha results 2 and 3 are us

YEZ
@IsaacMoses I'm not sure if that proves or disproves. But it is cool.

@YEZ It doesn't.

9:01 PM
@IsaacMoses and 4

@HodofHod Huh. Now, I'm seeing 3, 4, and 5 in my regular browser, and 3 and 4 in an private browser

I don't know if anyone is searching for "jewish product recommendation" but we dominate that page.
Strangely, google offers very different results if you pluralize that.

@HodofHod Probably has to do with how the tag interacts with SEO

Unfortunately, the pages we probably want most 'judaism questions' and 'jewish questions' we only make page 2 :(

@HodofHod Give it time ... :)
@IsaacMoses you sound like someone on TV saying "I'll just hack a javascript to the router link."

9:09 PM
I hope so. Though I doubt we're going to pass about.com, wikipedia, jewfaq, askmoses, or chabad.org any time soon.

@HodofHod Well, they do all have good content up there.

9:26 PM
Absolutely. And real rabbis too. ;)
...who don't preface everything with "CYLHA"

@HodofHod Some of them do, actually, and probably some should that don't.

You're right on both counts; my bad :)

YEZ
@IsaacMoses that has to be the most meta question on the main site

YEZ
@IsaacMoses I thought about that one. But that one seems to be less directly suggesting a change.

@YEZ There's also Question One: mi.yodeya.com/q/1 :)

9:59 PM
Related to this conversion question, I remember reading somewhere in g'mara that one of the rabbis (named, but I forget who) said something to the effect that he envied converts because they got to choose and that put them on a higher level, or something to that effect. If this rings a bell with anybody, I think it'd be a valuable addition there.

10:15 PM
You're not thinking of R' Avahu in Berachos 34b "In the place that the ba'al teshuvah stands, the perfect tzaddik cannot stand."
?

@HodofHod oh, hmm. Maybe I'm misremembering that, or maybe there's something else.
