A: Was Intermarriage Permissible at the time of Tanakh?

Baby SealNo: וְלֹא תִתְחַתֵּן, בָּם: בִּתְּךָ לֹא-תִתֵּן לִבְנוֹ, וּבִתּוֹ לֹא-תִקַּח לִבְנֶךָ. neither shalt thou make marriages with them: thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. (Deut 7:3) Also, implicitly: לֹא-תִכְרֹת לָהֶם וְלֵאלֹ...

@shmuel ^^^ I was wondering if I could improve this answer in some way. You didn't comment on it,so I was wondering if you missed it?

@Meta-Man Isn't this, too, a rant rather than a question?

@MonicaCellio I'm a little confused. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapparot the chickens are eaten. So basically this person just has a problem with slaughtering animals?
if so... See like every book of the five, just to start?

12:23 AM
@BabySeal it's hard to tell if he objects to slaughtering chicken, or to this being done somewhere where he could see it, or what. (Going to look at the meta post now.)

@MonicaCellio shana tova, by the way :D Wishing you and yours an excellent year in all ways

@Shokhet excellent answer on meta! Thank you for that.

@BabySeal thank you, and to you and yours as well!

@MonicaCellio No problem; hope it helps

@Shokhet I think it is especially helpful to have that come from a member of the community who is not a moderator. (Sadly, his choice of meta title indicates that he still thinks it's personal, or an abuse of power, or something like that. Two mods have already left him comments explaining what the problems are.)

@MonicaCellio Was not sure about quoting XKCD here, but went for it anyway as a footnote.....if you think it's a little strong, I can take it out (going more on the last panel "and they're showing you the door")
@MonicaCellio If it helps it helps, if not not........to questions there are answers, to answers there are no answers.......

12:29 AM
@Shokhet take it out? No, if anything it should be in a normal-sized font rather than small. :-) Seriously, if I'd answered I would have made the "freedom of the press doesn't grant you the right to use somebody else's press" point; your way is more succinct.

@MonicaCellio :^)

@MonicaCellio "tell him to get his own press." well said :)

@Shokhet thank you.

@BabySeal You pinged the wrong Shmuel :)

It's a little bit insulting to the community here that you think you are the spectacular investigative reporter bringing this hidden practice to light, and the moderators need to hide it from us. We've all been in the know for a good while now, and not too bothered. Please tone down your patronizing condescendingness before you come back. — YEZ 40 secs ago

@IsaacMoses - “I'm just not a ”'learning guy'" - I don't understand your edit!

@GeminiMan Converted the title from something spoken by the asker to something quoted by the asker

@IsaacMoses “I'm just not a 'learning guy'” - Maybe you meant to do this?

@GeminiMan Yes. Forgot to delete a double-quote. Thanks. Fixed. I expect that your eyes want it to be 'I'm just not a "learning guy"'

@msh210 Looks like it to me. So voted.

7:55 PM
@msh210 on this and its sibling immediately following, I think so.

8:24 PM
@msh210 On both of those, I don't think so....this question asks about all gentiles, regardless of their religious practices, while the other two deal with two specific groups (Muslims and Christians), and are based on whether they should be loved because of their practices.

8:42 PM
@MonicaCellio How have you been, Monica?

@whoever-voted-to-close-as-psak-seeking - do you want to close every halacha question on this site? — YEZ 24 secs ago
^^^ that showed up in the review queue as nominated for closing as psak seeking. It doesn't show that anyone voted to close.

@YEZ In other words, a flag?

YEZ
@Shokhet right... I forgot that you can flag to be closed. EIther way, my comment stands.
I corrected my comment.
But whoever flagged it is that much less likely to ever see my comment.

@FrankLuke hey Frank, good to see you!

9:32 PM
@FrankLuke, if you've no objection, I'm going to go ahead and spin off a new room so we can catch up and whatnot without overwhelming this room. (This one tends to stick more to the site's scope than some rooms out there.) Public & anyone's free to jump in, of course.

@MonicaCellio Not a problem at all.

I'll go ahead and move some messages thence from here.

Q: Bug in the site navigation links

terdonThe main site of judaism.SE looks like this on my system: Meta looks like: Presumably, the Unanswered link should not be under Badges. I tested on Firefox (32.0) and Chrome (30.0.1599.114) both running on 64bit Debian Linux. Opera (12.16) on the other hand, worked as expected. Firefox's err...
