Good MAEN

2 hours later…
8:46 AM
Awfully quiet in here.
% SUXX, breaks compatibility with graphicx.sty and hyperref.sty and possibly
 % with many other packages using \catcode`` etc.

@Johannes_B: It's monday morning (at least here) and many people are on vacation ... what do you expect? ;-)

@Johannes_B Huh?

9:03 AM
@JosephWright this. :)
@David It is easiier to type {} ... with a typo :D :P
2
since it's easier to type {] than \bgroup\egroup and much easier and more robust to define commands using that form why would you want to do this? your question gives no indication of any possible reason or potential benefit. — David Carlisle 11 hours ago

@tohecz If @DavidCarlisle wants I can fix this

@JosephWright I don't think it's necessary :)

9:29 AM
@JosephWright save your super powers for more important things:-)
Just taken me an hour to persuade my machine it's not in Austria and connect to the company network. Now what was I doing before I went away...

@DavidCarlisle you really omitted "it has" in this sentence?

@PauloCereda With very extensive documentation. ;-)

@tohecz apparently so:-)

@DavidCarlisle kool :D

@tohecz quite common in colloquial speech, sloppy in written form

9:42 AM
@DavidCarlisle I've seen bad tables. This one is high in the rank. ;-)

@egreg I think it needs some colortbl bling.

@DavidCarlisle That would push it higher in rank.

@egreg well, the output isn't so much bad. The input is.

@tohecz I believe it should be a single table.

@egreg well, obviously :) with lots of \cmidrule(lr)
@egreg Are you gonna work on it? If so, I'll leave it be

9:47 AM
@tohecz No.

@egreg ok, I'll spend some time on it I think. Let's call it "preaching typography" :)

@egreg :)

@PauloCereda Good morning!

@egreg Good morning! How are you? :)

@PauloCereda Fine, thanks. The weather's not so fine, but tomorrow it will be worse.

9:58 AM
@egreg Oh no. :( We are in a drought in the last two months. Thankfully I live in a watershed region, so the effects are not so strong. But in the state capital, there are lots of breathing problems.
@egreg: an amusing fact: we were rehearsing some songs on Saturday and there's was a latin verse. Then I remember this plant: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pereskia_aculeata In the region of Minas Gerais, it's widely known as ora pro nobis; the story behind the name is a legend: every time people harvested the plant in the backyard of a priest's house, he used to pray a litany. :)

@egreg looks better IMHO:

@tohecz Indeed

10:50 AM
@egreg Bad table and a bad answer ;-)
I could not understand the table at all, as it turns out.

11:06 AM
@HarishKumar I just guessed it was meant to be a single table.

11:42 AM
@HarishKumar having seen plenty of poorly formatted tables, I just made another unqualified guess ;)
I was tempted to post IWGTFY here: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/196853/…

12:25 PM
@percusse do you plan to post any of your efforts on the variable stroke width before the bounty period expires? :-)

@JosephWright magyar.ldf has almost 5.8k lines. Two of them are the above.

@Johannes_B Ah
@Johannes_B Reminds me of a LaTeX3 aim: a fixed set of active chars

@JosephWright I think i am going to write the maintainer of magyal.ldf. The version dates back to early 2004, but there are signs in there that it was last modified in 2009. And i didn't find any documentation (besides in-code comments).

12:48 PM
@Johannes_B Ah, right
@Johannes_B I know there have been issues with that one

@JosephWright Many :-)

@JosephWright 0 to 10FFFF ?

It prints to the log to use option latin2 for inputenc and package t1enc. Makes me shiver.

@DavidCarlisle Shall I call you Jonathan Fine?
@Johannes_B Eek

@JosephWright LOL

12:52 PM
@PauloCereda Know much about JF?

@JosephWright I'd rather you didn't

@DavidCarlisle :-)

@JosephWright I heard stories about him. :)

@PauloCereda Ah

1:17 PM
@PaulGessler I'll try my best. I hope I can at least get a crude decoration with which you can just give the shape of a curve and it's get filled with that curve.

1 hour later…
2:36 PM
Oh the irony: had to get a credit card. :)

@PauloCereda what's the number?

@DavidCarlisle Hold on.
You want those numbers in the back too? :)

@PauloCereda naturally

@DavidCarlisle I should ask the bank guy to increase my limit.

@PauloCereda I've just got back from a holiday that still needs paying for...

2:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh! :) Skiing too? :)

@PauloCereda it's summer here:-)

@DavidCarlisle Oopsie, I forgot. :)

@PauloCereda give them. You needn't give us the expiration tho, if you got it now, it's likely a 3-year one, so it's ... :)

@PauloCereda You could tell it was summer as it was 5C on the day we left;-)

@DavidCarlisle o.O
@tohecz Nope. :)

2:46 PM
@DavidCarlisle LOL
@PauloCereda uh oh!

who should we ping to answer this? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/196879/…

@DavidCarlisle Mico. :)

@DavidCarlisle You should.

@egreg but you need the points

@DavidCarlisle And you don't have a cricket match to follow.

2:59 PM
Good MAEN ...

@ChristianHupfer 'ello.

@PauloCereda: Are you missing some 'h' or is it 'shtum'? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer 'ey!

@PauloCereda: Your keyboard 'angs :D

@ChristianHupfer w'at did you say? :D

3:03 PM
@ChristianHupfer good ol' 'ack o' letters. :)

@PauloCereda : ! ;-)
@PauloCereda: the ! stands for all letters omitted :-P

@ChristianHupfer bah, greedy algorithms.
:P

@PauloCereda: No, a regex :D

@ChristianHupfer nope, you would have to indicate an explicit lookahead on it.
What's the plural of regex?
regexen?
regexis?
regexi?
regexes?
What does the regex say?

regexensions :D

3:07 PM
@ChristianHupfer oh my!

@PauloCereda: regices?
@PauloCereda: regicide :D

@ChristianHupfer regexii

@PauloCereda real editors call them regexp with plural regexps
M-x apropos regexps

@DavidCarlisle oh pico saved the day.
:)

@DavidCarlisle But the real editor's regexps are not the same as other environments' regexes, whence the different name.

3:16 PM
@egreg If everyone used emacs, english and the pound, things would be a lot easier.

@DavidCarlisle Also feet and ounces?
For pints I might agree, when beer is involved.

@egreg No metric up to a a few hundred metres, then miles, except of course height of people that are in feet, and weight of people in stones.

@DavidCarlisle Children at school would love it: convert 12500 m into miles; convert 2.4 miles in meters.

@egreg despite the fact that UK schools have supposedly only taught the metric system for 50 years, when told how far a bus ride is in kilometers, it seems a 10 year old's response is to ask "how far is that" requiring an answer in miles....

3:21 PM
@egreg no, pint is 26ml too short :p
@DavidCarlisle 6.2, everybody knows that ;)

@tohecz You're considering US pints, which are smaller than UK pints.

@egreg ah! well, yes, I retract my complains :)

@DavidCarlisle Sounds about right

btw, have you ever published with AMS?

@DavidCarlisle I cook in imperial but of course work in metric on much the same scale

3:32 PM
@PauloCereda: Sorry, I was away on the phone. regexii?
@DavidCarlisle: I think, the metric system is for people from the UK/US as 'weird' as the foot/pound system for metric system users ;-)

@JosephWright It seems we have a problem with Claudio; he doesn't seem to have understood how this site works and is providing several nonanswers.

@egreg I'd seen that

@egreg: Claudio?

@egreg I'm hoping some flags or comments from other community members will be forthcoming: I will of course say something later today if not

3:46 PM
@ChristianHupfer A great expert in TeX.

@egreg: we're all experts in TeX ;-) /irony off

@ChristianHupfer Well, he is. ;-)

I am off for a while, returning in an hour or two... see you

@ChristianHupfer well the situation in the UK and US are rather different, the US is largely in denial that the metric system exists, but the UK is officially metric, almost all education and goods use the metric system exclusively, it's just that normal conversational use is still largely imperial. So we buy petrol in litres but express petrol consumption in miles per gallon:-)

@DavidCarlisle Not all officially metric :-)
@DavidCarlisle Distances on the roads, milk in returnable containers and beer at pubs is all legal in imperial

4:01 PM
@JosephWright not all (I still get pint bottles of milk on the doorstep:-)
@JosephWright yes (that's what the "almost" was for;-)

@DavidCarlisle Ah, right
@DavidCarlisle There isn't even a proper metric measure of mpg as the rest of Europe have it the wrong way up anyway

@JosephWright true:-)

@DavidCarlisle I've never seen what the problem is using both systems with proper conversion: the accuracy of the measures is rarely more than 3 s.f. so the differences in say monetary value are not important
@DavidCarlisle Then you get daft things like dress sizes that the EU has no problem with: what are the units of these things?

4:15 PM
@egreg ooh Claudio is here?

@PauloCereda Yes.

@egreg woooo
Tell him to come to the chat.

@PauloCereda wait till the next test match

@DavidCarlisle :)

2 hours later…
6:15 PM
@PauloCereda Just had a lot of fun reading your commit messages to nightingale (It seems you had less fun when you were typing them...)

@cgnieder LOL
@cgnieder: most notably, Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron. :)

@PauloCereda I have the melody in my head. Driving me mad: I can never remember the titles of songs... :)

@cgnieder :)
@cgnieder: I have 40 minutes of talking about nightingale recorded yesterday, but I sound like a retard. Not sure if I should publish the video. :)

@PauloCereda isn't it normal to dislike the own voice?

@cgnieder Dunno. :)

6:31 PM
@cgnieder: would you like to watch it? I'll keep private for now, only available to early devs. :)

@PauloCereda yes, please :)
@PauloCereda I think so. I've heard my voice quite often but still find it very strange to listen to

7:08 PM
Yay!!!!
I mean, hi! :)

Good MAEN again

@ChristianHupfer hi :)

@cgnieder: I'm uploading the private video to Vimeo. I'll send you an email later on. :)

@tohecz: Hello

@cgnieder pretty normal, yeah. Because you sound completely different to yourself. I didn't realize how similar voice are mine and my brother's until I heard myself in a video :)

7:24 PM
@DavidCarlisle: I had my difficulties during shopping the first days ten years ago on my two week conference trip to Cambridge, UK... pints, pound... I forgot a scaling table ;-)

@PauloCereda Cool :)
@tohecz a quite strange experience the first time :)

@cgnieder yep. It's even worse on a monitor (I mean, sound monitor)

@tohecz you mean with a mic in front, huge boxes in the back, a guitar in hand and one of those monitor boxes on the floor in front of you? ;)

@tohecz, @cgnieder: I have one of these: behringer.com/EN/Products/C-1U.aspx (and also the non-USB version as well). It's quite shocking to hear my voice on a high quality microphone.

@cgnieder well, you can't really put the mic voice into the monitor because of feedback, but I monitor myself through a pair of headphones
@PauloCereda it looks good :)
btw, I'm in a need of good (singing quality) and cheap microphone headset :-/

7:32 PM
@tohecz most of the times you want to hear the rest of the band through the monitor. Well and yourself. It actually depends... The first time I was singing through a microphone was rather strange – although I knew what I sound like. But you get used to it

@tohecz Shure. :)

@cgnieder yep you do
@PauloCereda or Sennheiser. But I don't really want to spend some $500 for it :-/ Well, I'll probably have to

@PauloCereda I can imagine. But also fun, no?

just excuse me if I have a long ping, I'm preparing some more sheets and recordings :)

@PauloCereda »it even works with Vista!« :D

8:13 PM
\begin{silence}........ compilation error... chat ends with \end{chat} without \end{silence}

@ChristianHupfer You mean: \begin{silence} ended by \end{chat} on input line 17212366 ?
4

@tohecz: Something like that :D

This is so so so so much bad! :( kytary.cz/sennheiser-xsw-52-c/HN132774 10317 CZK = EUR 369.688

@cgnieder LOL

I am running out of close votes soon this day :D

8:36 PM
I am off ... good MAEN for the rest

@ChristianHupfer night

8:55 PM
@ChristianHupfer I was occupied in designing horrible symbols. ;-)

I can't log in to my blog's FTP server :(

9:15 PM
@PauloCereda tohe.wz.cz/215.html Unfortunately, I have some troubles with the FTP connection, so I'm unable to upload 5.5 MB file :(

10:07 PM
@cgnieder: check your mail. :)
@tohecz ooh! :)

@PauloCereda it's an evening song :)

@tohecz :)

10:31 PM
I'm reading (Czech) comments on the movie Boyhood. There're 6 grades you can give: 5* to 1* and "crap". I saw only one "crap" for this one, so I checked all reviews of that guy: half of them are "crap" grade. I think the guy is screwed.
