@PauloCereda Ah, the quack side of the force ;-)

@ChristianHupfer 'allo!

10:34 AM
@PauloCereda I will ship a package to you with some 'H' letters -- you need them ;-)

@ChristianHupfer no. :)

@PauloCereda I will not buy this Portuguese Language -- it's incomplete :D

@ChristianHupfer I have a Taschenwörterbuch here. :)

@PauloCereda From 'Real languages to Portuguese', I suppose? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Ni!

11:16 AM
@PauloCereda Booooooooo!

@ChristianHupfer Do you want a shubbery? :)
How do I write that thingy? :)

@PauloCereda parking defense, schmarking defense ...

2 hours later…
1:07 PM
Quack again!

1:31 PM
People are enjoying this Saturday, it seems. :)

@PauloCereda Designing a Physics class test on Inducktion ;-) -- that's no joy!!!

@ChristianHupfer ooh

@PauloCereda I suppose, @egreg is looking for a large piece of fabric to catch up his tears when Italy loses against Germany this evening ;-)

1:47 PM
@ChristianHupfer ooh that's mean
@Christian: don't be so sure, Italy is not Brazil. :)

@PauloCereda I almost forgot that match -- I've not watched it, however :D

2:00 PM

Hey! I need some help with a interlinear text. I can not put a arabic text interlinear with the others. WHen I put the arabic with the command \textarabic{} the consider all the text as 1 block. I use XelaTex

@BozenoBozilson How are you making the interlinear text? Are you using ExPex?

2:39 PM
Is there a web page to suggest improvements for standard Latex like the \pagenumbering? I would suggest a starred version, which doesnt reset the pagecounter. This should be easy to implement.

@AlanMunn Yes! I am using \usepackage{expex}. I Can send the code here?
@AlanMunn I asked it yesterday, but the solution create other problem, now I can write in arabic, but I have problem with the enviroment \gla of the interlinear text. Here is the link for the question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/317589/…

3:10 PM
for some reason I am always unable to attend Answer the Unanswered sessions
the one today starts in 5 hours, thats 22:00h for me, not the most convenient
or is it tomorrow too?
I thought most active members here are in Europe, so it will be during the night for them

3:22 PM
@BozenoBozilson Hi the problem is that \textarabic creates one big word of your text. A quick workaround is to wrap each word (not the whole text) in \textarabic. It's tricky to get RTL and LTR working properly with ExPex.

3:36 PM
@BozenoBozilson Also, I don't understand really what you are doing: if the Arabic text is set properly (i.e., RTL) the words in the following lines won't match. Your Portuguese and Greek are LTR.
@BozenoBozilson ExPex is designed primarily for linguistics and so if I were using it, my English gloss would be effectively RTL, not LTR if I were glossing Arabic directly. Then I would use a separate line (not matched word by word) to show the actual translation.

@DavidCarlisle: Thanks for repairing tex.stackexchange.com/questions/315462/…

3:55 PM
@PauloCereda Ice cream stop in a very peculiar place called Terra del Sole, near Forlì. Look it up.

@egreg oh my, it looks gorgeous!

@AlanMunn Hmmm, But for other soluction I used a CSV documment with datatools to produce a interlinear text. And again did not work, when I put a Arabic Character just apear a [X] in the place of the words... Like in this post [tex.stackexchange.com/questions/45520/…, when I was doing the document, I think that with this I can get a "soluction" for the problem of LTR and RTL scripts.

@BozenoBozilson No, I understand (I was the person who made that solution).
@BozenoBozilson But the problem is that you can't have word-for-word lining up of RTL and LTR languages without at least one of the languages having the words in the wrong order.

@AlanMunn Yes, of course, I will put arabic in the "correct" order and invert the English Text. A did not found a way to put this to work...

@BozenoBozilson Ok, if that's what you're doing then it's possible I think. I don't read Arabic so it's hard for me to test.

Ideas?
Never mind. This is Ubuntu with TL 2015.

@BozenoBozilson If all your \gla lines are Arabic, does adding \lingset{glhangstyle=none,everygla=\arabicfont} work?

In your's solution I put this \setotherlanguage{arabic}
\newfontfamily\arabicfont[Script=Arabic]{Amiri} in preamble to add the arabic script in the coolumn "Numbers" but did not apear the characters...
@AlanMunn WORKED!!!! Thank you soo much!!!

@BozenoBozilson Ok, you're welcome. I'll add an answer to your original question then.

@AlanMunn Wait a Munite, the command inverted the arabic text, I want to inverted the others texts, but the problem if the arabic scripts was solved.

4:19 PM
@MaestroGlanz You can implement that yourself and provide a new latex format ;-)

@BozenoBozilson What do you mean? (This is my problem with not reading Arabic).

@AlanMunn Means that the fist arabic word is in the left, but the command put them in the right and invert all the sentences, they associate correctly arabic and greek word [first-first, second-second...] but inverted the arabic order
@AlanMunn They tranfer arabic of LTR in RTL and I want to transfer English RTL in LTR to preserve the arabic script.

@BozenoBozilson Does this work?
\documentclass[11pt]{book}
\usepackage[margin=1in]{geometry}
\usepackage{titlesec}
\usepackage{polyglossia}
\defaultfontfeatures{Ligatures=TeX}
\setmainlanguage{brazil}
\setotherlanguage[variant=ancient]{greek}
\setotherlanguage{arabic}
\newfontfamily\arabicfont[Script=Arabic]{Scheherazade}
\newfontfamily\greekfont{Linux Libertine O}
\newfontfamily\brazilfont{Linux Libertine O}
\setmainfont{Linux Libertine O}
\usepackage{expex}
\usepackage{hologo}

\titleformat{\chapter}[display]
{\normalfont\filcenter}

@AlanMunn Archive not found

@BozenoBozilson You mean the font? You'll need to substitute fonts you have (I don't have the font you were using).

4:33 PM
@AlanMunn Compile well but not shown pdf

@BozenoBozilson I'm not sure what to tell you. Are you sure there's no error?

Just wondering... I can't use colorbrewer, but according to my pgfplots pdf I do have the latest version, and TexManager says no update available. What could it be?

@AlanMunn I compile well , but when I will open de PDF file appears a menssager: Archive not Found, and open a White Page

@BozenoBozilson Did you look at the .log file?

@AlanMunn Yes, do not appont any error....

4:41 PM
@BozenoBozilson Sorry I don't have a clue what would cause this. The file compiles properly for me, and I didn't really make many changes from the previous code.
@BozenoBozilson Try deleting all the .aux files?

:30772138 I need to go now... After all will try this.... Sorry... Bye and a thanks a lot!!

@BozenoBozilson Ok. Good luck.

4:58 PM
@MaestroGlanz A number scheme like "1,2,3,IV,V,f,g,h,I,J,K" doesn't make sense. If you really need it it is a sign that something is wrong in your document set up. The default latex format should certainly not provide the means to do this.

5:20 PM
This simply won't compile tex.stackexchange.com/a/274277/75648

@G.Bay Adding the suggested \pgfplotsset{cycle list/Dark2-5} makes it work here

hmmm, let me try on, hold on

@G.Bay I added just after the line loading colorbrewer

@JosephWright Package pgfkeys Error: I do not know the key '/pgfplots/cycle list/Dark2-5' and I am going to ignore it. Perhaps you misspelled it. \pgfplotsset{cycle list/Dark2-5}

@G.Bay I have
\documentclass{book}
\usepackage{lipsum}
\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{pgfplots}
\pgfplotsset{compat=1.3}
\usepgfplotslibrary{colorbrewer}
 \pgfplotsset{cycle list/Dark2-5}
then exactly as in the answer you linked to

5:25 PM
\documentclass{book}
\usepackage{lipsum}
\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{pgfplots}
\pgfplotsset{compat=1.3}
\usepgfplotslibrary{colorbrewer}
\pgfplotsset{cycle list/Dark2-5}

All is 'works for me' then with a system updated today

@JosephWright How do I generate that list?

@G.Bay Add \listfiles in the preamble, and it will appear in the .log

I can't see much of a difference. Is there any chance the old colorbrewer files "installed"manually are causing any conflict?

@G.Bay Definitely a possibility. If you have older versions in your local texmf folder they will take precedence. You can see which ones are loaded in the log.

5:35 PM
    :30772979 Hmmm, well the only thing I could find with "colorb" word was
    texmf-dist/tex/latex/pgfplots/libs/tikzlibrarypgfplots.colorbrewer.code.tex
which seems to be the correct file

@G.Bay There should be also pgflibrarypgfplots.colorbrewer.code.tex in the log. Also why does your document load pgfplotstable.sty?

@UlrikeFischer I have no idea, let me clean the aux file and retry

@UlrikeFischer That doesn't show up in my file list (and the document compiles). Adding pgfplotstable doesn't change anything either.

@AlanMunn not every file is in the file list. Better use the -recorder option and then check the fls file.

how do I use this -recorder?

5:51 PM
@G.Bay Easiest way is to compile from the command line. pdflatex -recorder foo.tex
@G.Bay This will generate foo.fls

@AlanMunn Thanks, running right now
I had to stop it seemed to be freezed, the file is huge, what should I look for?

@G.Bay Well the file should show the path of every loaded file. Assuming you're running TL 2016 you should be seeing only /usr/local/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/... file names (except for your actual file and associated .aux and .log files).

@G.Bay The example produce a 230 line .fls-file on my system -- that's not huge, it is shorter than a standard log-file.

@G.Bay If you're using MikTeX @UlrikeFischer can explain what you should see.

I'm using TexLive 2016, except the folder is called 2014 lol

6:00 PM
@G.Bay What do you mean?

@UlrikeFischer 557 lines here, ok its not huge... i just excepted something less

@G.Bay That also doesn't seem right (mine is the same as Ulrike's).

@AlanMunn When I installed TexLive 2016 I selected the 2014 folder as I did with the 2015

@G.Bay That sounds like a bad idea. (But I have no idea if it is, in reality).

:( ops, i just wanted to save some space... thinking files would be overwritten anyway

6:04 PM
@G.Bay Are you sure you are compiling exactly the example in the question? Or did you add some "improvements"?

@UlrikeFischer Exactly the same, let me re copy paste just in case
! Package pgfplots Error: Sorry, there is no such cycle list named Dark2-5. May
be you misspelled it?.
Even found a question with the same problem yesterday tex.stackexchange.com/questions/314089/…
Well maybe not exactly the same...

@G.Bay That also compiles without error for me.

! Package pgf Error: Unknown arrow tip kind 'Dark2'.
I must leave now, be back later. Thanks for help everyone, I will keep trying.

6:57 PM
Quack! :)

Everybody in front of the TV?

@egreg sir yes sir!

yo'
@egreg yes, watching National Geographic :D (convincing the scout graphic people how their decision is wrong and the font is plain bad.)

7:14 PM
@egreg No

yo'
How can one include special characters in his font -- is there any "private unicode space"? @DavidCarlisle

@yo' Private Use Area

yo'
@JosephWright thanks

yo'
7:42 PM
How can I explain someone that misusing various Ucodes for miscellaneous symbols is plain wrong by definition, and against Unicode rules?!

@yo' -- you might just suggest that someone else trying to reproduce the job will get different (and most likely confusing) results, and not know why. (however, with the private use area, there's no guarantee you'll get the same results either. cooperation between sharing users has to be very tightly controlled.)

yo'
@barbarabeeton but, well, it's understandable that when you expect a hand with three fingers up and thumb covering the little finger, you get a square. But it's not understandable why you should get "NOT EQUALS SIGN"

@yo' What are they up to?

yo'
@JosephWright I can explain translate you the reasoning: under MS WORD in Windoze, the symbols are accessible easily via the ALT key.

@yo' Using a pifont?

yo'
7:54 PM
@JosephWright well, the 10 or so characters accompany the font, so I understand they're part of the font, but WHY this way?!

8:53 PM
Overtime like in 1970
I think I'll be a bit late for the session

cfr
9:06 PM
The site thinks we have an answer the unanswered session. @JosephWright do we? It thinks it is only 1/2 hour, though, and there's only 24 or so minutes left, so if it doesn't start soon, I guess we won't have to worry about it.

9:43 PM
@JosephWright -- it seems no one is showing up to answer anything. is it possible to reschedule it for next week?

@barbarabeeton Sorry, but the match has just ended. :(
@ChristianHupfer Congratulations! At least we did slightly better than Brazil. ;-)

@egreg I think that's the closest penalty shootout I've seen. (And the one with the most misses.)

9:59 PM
@TorbjørnT. You didn't see Brazil, then. ;-) I believe @PauloCereda remembers a particular shootout.

@egreg When was that?

@TorbjørnT. I think in Copa América some years ago. On the other hand, Brazil lost to Germany two years ago by…

@egreg I don't really follow Copa America. The one two years ago was not so even.

@AlanMunn I found the problem, It was the font, now your code runs very well, thanks a lot!!!

Brazil missed all four penalties; Paraguay scored two.

10:08 PM
@egreg Ouch.

@egreg I didn't watch the whole match. The Germans won luckily, as far as I can judge

@BozenoBozilson Ok I'll add an answer to your question. I don't think the existing answer solves your problem because people don't understand what an interlinear text is.
@ChristianHupfer As someone who watches very little soccer, it seemed to me that Germany maintained control of the ball for most of the game but didn't manage to do anything because Italy's defence was so strong. But if anything Italy were lucky to have gotten the penalty, otherwise Germany would have won 1-0.

@ChristianHupfer At the ninth penalty.

@AlanMunn Well, I am no fan of soccer, for me it's not really important who won

@ChristianHupfer Me neither.

10:38 PM
@ChristianHupfer Hupkonzert?

question re tagging. [makeidx] had one question, no followers, no description. most questions on the topic are tagged [indexing], so i changed it (leaving no questions). but it might be worth making this a synonym. (question was tex.stackexchange.com/q/298729 ) another question on this general topic ... do synonyms deserve a text description?

@BozenoBozilson You might want to add a comment to the other answer explaining why it doesn't work.

bye, all. heading off to find some dinner.

@barbarabeeton I don't think you can make [makidx] a synonym of [indexing], since xindy should also be used with the [indexing] tag.

10:53 PM
@AlanMunn -- okay. i think that implies that maybe questions about indexing might warrant two tags, one general, one the specific flavor. ???

@barbarabeeton I would think that's the best route. We have topic tags and package tags; both are useful (although some topic tags end up with thousands of questions which may not be so useful.) But I don't want to keep you from dinner. :)

@AlanMunn -- indeed, the [indexing] tag is quite well populated. didn't check [xindy], but the tag [imakeidx] does also exist. (bye now.)
