I seem to remember reading not to use \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} sometime ago. I really wish there is a document that tells user just what to do. It seems there are infinite number of combinations out there for these things. ps. I know about the font catalogue. I actually have a web page where I tried many fonts allready. That is why it is confusing. Here is my page on this: 12000.org/my_notes/faq/LATEX/math_fonts/index.htm

@Nasser Alright, I'm late for GURPS night, let me know how it looks at the end though. I'll see it when I come back online.
@Nasser I don't think so? @PauloCereda is an expert, is there a reason not to use that?

@Canageek Me? I am more curious than an expert. :)

@Nasser Oh, yeah, I recognize that. It is a bit out of date as I understand it. Check out the font catalogue I linked to.

@JosephWright, @DavidCarlisle: MORE LOGOS! :)

7 hours later…

7:23 AM
@PauloCereda oh I read "More LEGOS" :)

In some hands-on tutorial videos, why do people say "what you are going to want to do is..." before they reveal the first step??

@JesterTran Better not watch hands-on tutorial videos. ;-)

@Johannes_B I have some friends who say "what you want to do is to type this and that". Why don't they say "type this and that"?

@JesterTran I don't know. Sounds too commanding?

yo'
@JesterTran it's similar to "We would like to kindly ask you to focus your attention on the fact that walking on this lawn is prohibited" in place of "no trespassing"

7:36 AM
I see, thanks!

@yo' Get off of my lawn!
:-)

Q: .tex Notes for Output with Comments for Non-LaTeX Users?

MasiI need to collaborate with non-LaTeX users. I am thinking how I can well print .pdf of my notes for the overview. I need the comments too because they essential for the understanding. I think other semantics can confuse them. Colors can be helpful too. I think Tikz can be the tool here. Exam...

7:55 AM
Hi!!! How do we symbolize the integral with a line in the middle?

8:14 AM
@Nasser dont use inputenc with luatex/xetex always use it with pdftex (or write in English:-)

@yo' :-)

@Johannes_B I give up ...

@TorbjørnT. Understandable.

@DavidCarlisle fill error message.
@DavidCarlisle Templates ... gotta love'em

8:30 AM
@Johannes_B Wonderful!
@DavidCarlisle But don't be naïve

@DavidCarlisle undefined \@tempa and tocloft I'll eat first, look later

Hey @DavidCarlisle @egreg
Do you have an idea how we symbolize the integral with a line in the middle?

@Evinda esint has one with a diagonal line; otherwise it is also in our site, I think.
@Evinda See here
5
A: Average integral symbol

Heiko OberdiekThe following example defines macro \mint{<symbol>} (\limits|\nolimits|\displaylimits)* _{...} ^{...} The first argument is the symbol that is put in smaller math style in the middle of the integral symbol. Then a limits specification follows, any number and order. The last one is used. Then ...

8:45 AM
None of these worked :( @egreg

@Evinda ?

I tried \esint, and other commands suggested at the site you sent me but I didn't get the symbol. @egreg

@TorbjørnT. @egreg Is it worse now? Or am i really starting to loose my marbles?

@Johannes_B I mean, it seems to me he's going about that the wrong way altogether, and the best solution would be to suggest a completely different way of writing those notes.

@TorbjørnT. Agreed. Or some kind of conditional typesetting with a boolean.

9:03 AM
@Johannes_B Yes, that was also my thought.

@Evinda There is no \esint command; the package esint provides the command \fint; on the other hand, the \mint command defined in Heiko's answer should do what you need.

@egreg I write it here: codecogs.com/latex/eqneditor.php but I don't get the wanted symbol.

@Evinda You have to supply the definitions, I don't know what the site is supposed to do in that case.

@Johannes_B What do you mean? I don't understand

@ChristianHupfer Read the question. Award for most unclear question.

9:19 AM
@Johannes_B Ah, that question belongs to your somewhat unrelated comment ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Yes, hence the arrows.

@Johannes_B You're posting a lot of stuff that's not related, in a row, so the arrow does not mean much :-P

@ChristianHupfer Anything for lunch?

@Johannes_B No recipe again .... Ulrike will complain about 'unclear' statements made for cooks in stress ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I would argue that the chicken is diced too late. :-p

9:27 AM
@Johannes_B You can dice it before, but the onions and the spices must be fried first :-P
@Johannes_B: Do it as you like, I actually don't care as long as I don't have to eat then

@ChristianHupfer Yesterdays meal: Reis mit Blubber
@TorbjørnT. I am more than confused by the last part of the question. I have no idea what he is looking for.

@Johannes_B: You know that Masi is the Dark Lord of unclear Questions ;-) Almost impossible to answer them

@ChristianHupfer Yes, hence i asked if we have any awards left.

@Johannes_B I already suggested a {Most unclear questions asked ever} badge here in badge, some months ago
@Johannes_B: The label question has not been improved by the O.P.'s comments :-(

@ChristianHupfer Other sites of course would downvote and then question-ban people, but that's really not the way we've worked

9:42 AM
@JosephWright Have you seen his ridiculous 105 gold badges on SO? :D All for questions

@ChristianHupfer I really don't understand the question.

@ChristianHupfer Apparently he knows how to make good questions on SO. Definitely not on TeX.SX.

@egreg The community on SO is larger than here and it's rather the some stupid upvoting behaviour than posting good questions, I assume

@ChristianHupfer This is a very good question, depending on the way you look at things:

Q: To switch from vertical split to horizontal split fast in Vim

MasiHow can you switch your current windows from horizontal split to vertical split and vice versa in Vim? I did that a moment ago by accident but I cannot find the key again.

@Johannes_B It's a vim - question ;-) I can't find anything good in it :-P

9:52 AM
@ChristianHupfer oy

@ChristianHupfer “I did that a moment ago by accident but I cannot find the key again.” Isn't this normal with vim?

@egreg It's the main design bug feature of vim ;-) @PauloCereda :-P

Q: How To Convert LaTeX to .chm with video?

MasiIt is unstable to have videos inside .pdf documents generated by LaTeX. CHM should have such a support. @Johannes_B en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Compiled_HTML_Help I'd guess. He mentioned something about MS help format in the other question.

10:03 AM
@TorbjørnT. Didn't know that existed. Wiki states that sumatra pdf supports .chm ... but ... putting a video in such a thing will still not automatically show the video? Right?

@Johannes_B No idea.

@Johannes_B It's an old help format for MS Windows.

@JosephWright Since this was solved by updating, off topic? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/303239/…
@PauloCereda How to create MS help files using LaTeX.
Funny.

@Johannes_B Applied the deserved vote as unclear

@Johannes_B People who want to exploit good formats in an attempt to make them do things they are not supposed to (e.g, playing videos) deserve no sympathy. :)

10:05 AM
@PauloCereda :-)

I want my toaster to make coffee
@Johannes_B <3

Honestly, as far as i am cocerned, this question could might as well be asking how to dig holes in your garden with an unplugged electrical chainsaw. Apart from the fact, that you could use the blade for shoveling, or attach some small spade using cable binders, using a real shovel seems to be the sane approach here. — Johannes_B Apr 24 at 12:49
@PauloCereda <3

@Johannes_B You sir, are a true legend. :)

@PauloCereda :-D

@Johannes: one day, I got an email from a person saying, why doesn't arara behave just like latexmk?, to which I replied, *the tools have different approaches, they do different things. Then the person insisted, But I want arara to behave like latexmk, then I said, sure! just write % arara: pdflatexmk. The person never bothered me again. :D

10:12 AM
@PauloCereda :-)

The luck of having a question closed in your face when you're about to click "post answer". >_>

@Alenanno reopen?

@Johannes_B I voted but it's not like I can reopen it by myself. And even if I had the power to do it, I wouldn't.
But still...
The weird thing is that it should have let me answer since I started writing the answer, but Post Answer was greyed out.

@Alenanno Which question is it?

@Johannes_B The magic quadrant one, wait, I'll give you the link

Q: How is it possible to make a "magic quadrant"?

user3211900How is it possible to make a "magic quadrant"?

10:28 AM
@Alenanno Voted for reopening: “too broad” is silly

@Alenanno Voted, though i think the question isn't very good.

@egreg Yeah the close reason doesn't match either. Besides, even if you can create the same graphic with a lot of commands, I don't think it's a very basic one.
@Johannes_B Yeah but unlike others, the graphics in this case is a bit harder to replicate.
Oh by the way, I recently graduated guys. I finally broke the chains of oppression! :D

@Johannes_B Perhaps not, but there are so many of those questions left open, so why close this one?

10:59 AM
@Alenanno Graduated? Congrad(!)ulations then :-P

@ChristianHupfer Yes, now I can finally learn Python.
@ChristianHupfer ahah :D thanks

@Alenanno And what's you degree now?

@ChristianHupfer I graduated in languages, under linguistics, but in Italian it would be "Dottore in Lingue e Letterature Straniere" :D I'll know this for sure next week, after my proclamation.

@Alenanno Doctor of Non-Italian Language and Literature then? Most Impressive

@ChristianHupfer Yes, exactly like that. But my particular thesis was in Linguistics.
Written in Latex of course! :D

11:05 AM
@Alenanno Well, I suspect most of us here use (La)TeX for their thesis -- it's just a guess, only. I am unsure about @egreg and @DavidCarlisle: They used clay tables, most likely ;-)

@ChristianHupfer lol why clay?

@Alenanno: Like the old Babylonians? :D (Because they are old :D)

@ChristianHupfer Ahahah :D yeah

@ChristianHupfer I used to be very proficient in cuneiform writing

@egreg Yes, I know about your cuneiform theory of physics ;-)

@PauloCereda By the way, this shows I do know cuneiform:

@Johannes_B as I said, fragile command in moving argument. add \usepackage{array} and all will be fine

@DavidCarlisle I suggested to leave that stuff out.

@Johannes_B well array package is generally a good thing to have anyway:-)

@DavidCarlisle True that. :-)

@Johannes_B Well that's a fault in sgame: array is part of the LaTeX core distro

1:12 PM
@JosephWright I never doubted that.

@Johannes_B what Joseph said.

@DavidCarlisle :-)

Meanwhile I'm fixing oberdiek bundle on ctan while Heiko's answering longtable questions here. Strange the way things evolve:-)

@JosephWright Question about word. Off-topic? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/309585/…

1:30 PM
@Johannes_B Yup
@cfr On the references question, it's of course more obvious if you are used to numerical citations given without sorting (common in chemistry)
@cfr As I've said, I think the problem is complex as a programming challenge well before one brings in TeX. I do occasionally manually reorder citations when I spot the sort of thing @Canageek has asked about, much for the reason outlined in the question
@cfr Another facet is that normally for a set of 'related' refs I'd want to keep them in year order (so say keys Foo2010, Foo2011, Foo2012 rather than Foo2012, Foo2010, Foo2011), which would also have to be considered (and there relies on having the 'date info' available)

2:40 PM
@JosephWright Seems the link in the question can be removed: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/7535/…

@Johannes_B Done

@JosephWright Thank you.

3:08 PM
@JosephWright Did you had time to look at the \clearpage issue? Or should I better add it to the latex3 tracker so that it doesn't get lost?

3:18 PM
@JosephWright Now, honestly, a question like that? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/309592/…

@UlrikeFischer Had a quick look, will have another go today
@UlrikeFischer Comments in ltoutput.dtx are not entirely helpful :-)

@JosephWright You don't need to hurry. But until tomorrow I will probably have forgotten it ... (I didn't really understand what the write-1 is doing to avoid an additional page either ...)

@UlrikeFischer No, I'm not clear but more importantly we've got the whole 'don't add directly to the MVL' business

4:00 PM
@UlrikeFischer Ah, got it

4:16 PM
@ChristianHupfer Now, this is evidence. I can tell the name of the template by looking at just a snippet. Where are my cookies?

4:32 PM
@JosephWright you don't like my oldcomments environment?

% \clearpage == BEGIN \newpage
% \write -1{} % Part of hack to make sure no
%                     \vbox{}        % \write's get lost.
%                     \penalty -10001
%               END
@DavidCarlisle ^^^^
'Part of a hack': yes, very good, where's the description?

@JosephWright in Leslie's brain. I think I once knew the issue there but not just at the moment. ping Frank:-)
@JosephWright I think the issue relates to a page that is empty but just has deferred writes if latex makes a float page it could discard the mvl losing the writes but memory is very vague....

@DavidCarlisle Nah: the l3galley adjustments are purely 'for testing' and as \write is not being used we should be fine
@DavidCarlisle I'd moved the \write but had left the \vbox, basically as I'd not read the comments at all: I've now dropped both
@DavidCarlisle Let me check Frank's galley2 code from the late 1990s

@JosephWright I just checked that comment was in latex2.09 from same date:-)

@DavidCarlisle Ah, cool, so Leslie
@DavidCarlisle Frank's version of the galley plan has the \write still there, but perhaps he did it mechanically

4:41 PM
@JosephWright yes (almost) all the oldcomments stuff is from 2.09

@DavidCarlisle I think for testing the 'remove and cross fingers' approach is OK

@JosephWright sounds like a good plan

@DavidCarlisle What I'm less sure about is \addvspace, which came up a few days ago

@JosephWright dont we have a galley addvspace equivalent already?

@DavidCarlisle Yes, but in the model in l3galley a 'user vspace' is taken as a one-off, whereas we saw that for example at the start of itemize there's an assumption you can do two \addvspace calls in a row and have them add

4:44 PM
I'm wondering about making ctan happy and updating all the dtx to not reference ftp.ctan and reference http pkg page and github issues instead.
@JosephWright ah that's where the space went...

@DavidCarlisle Frank's version I think does something different again: it takes the 'largest' space of what is set 'now' and what is being requested
@DavidCarlisle Yes

@JosephWright that sounds closer to what addvspace does

@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle I'm not sure that you saw the follow up question. Imho \addvspace is a bit dubious and the change in everypar has side effects too: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/309426/…

@UlrikeFischer probably not I was at my parents for a couple of days and not paying that much attention here:-)

@DavidCarlisle \addvspace \@topsep \addvspace {-\parskip }: not exactly
@UlrikeFischer The entire plan means that \everypar and \par in particular need very different handling from the 2e case

4:48 PM
@JosephWright vv
% The sequence\\
%         |\addvspace|\marg{s1} |\addvspace|\marg{s2}
% is equivalent to\\
%         |\addvspace|\marg{maximum of s1, s2}.
%

@DavidCarlisle OK, perhaps one for the team list (I can do that for testing using some internal vars, but is the code-level interface right as it stands)

@JosephWright Yes, but this means that one need suitable replacements for the different everypar tricks.

@UlrikeFischer @UlrikeFischer I know you know the status of l3galley, it's hard to explain to other people what is going on!
@UlrikeFischer There are mechanisms in l3galley for (I hope) any reasonable request to add stuff to a paragraph

5:00 PM
@Johannes_B Fighting against wind mills ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Mystery solved in chat with the help of @TorbjørnT. and the OP. no wind mills.
@ChristianHupfer Oh, the template stuff? Huge wind mills. Gundar needs to get stronger.

@Johannes_B There will be a Gundar the Template Hunter in WarCraft, I am sure :-P
@Johannes_B: And Gundar Action Figures

@ChristianHupfer Oh, i like that.

@barbarabeeton @egreg @AlanMunn Thank you all guys!
@AlanMunn Abstract possession and possession in general. :D

@Alenanno Interesting. Syntax or semantics or a bit of both? What framework did you work in?

5:53 PM
@AlanMunn It was more a view on how it was used in some languages.
I mean, nothing particularly "in depth". The topic is vast and complicated.
As you well know :D

@Alenanno 'Dottore' in the Italian system is for laurea magistrale, right? This wasn't your PhD.

@AlanMunn No, any graduation level makes you a "dottore", but lower is "Dottore", then you have "dottore magistrale" for the specialization and "dottore di ricerca" for the PhD.

@Alenanno It's a confusing system for those of us outside of Italy. :)

@AlanMunn I think it's confusing for us too sometimes. :D

@daleif, I suppose this is a known issue?

@AlanMunn That's what I was thinking. Shortest document ever.

@AlanMunn actually not, you could omit the last third of it and show the same error:-)

@DavidCarlisle That damn extension/intension distinction will get you every time. :)

@egreg I'm sure Hans considered that before deciding to do a cosmetic refactoring and renaming of the primitives.

6:07 PM
@Alenanno Not quite: \bye compiled in TeX is shorter.

@AlanMunn "extension/intension"... That's familiar.

Q: What is a template?

Peter WilsonRegarding LaTeX I understand terms such as class, package, and so on but I don't understand the meaning of template as used by many questioners. Is it what is traditionally called a package or class or is it an example of a complete TeX document where the user edits the textual content, or ...?

6:20 PM
@AlanMunn Oh, Captain Sulu :D

@DavidCarlisle sigh, I'll add it to the list, why are they messing so many things up in luatex?

@daleif Change of back end primitive names

@daleif luatex has removed or renamed all the \pdfxxx commands that came from pdftex as a minor cosmetic code cleanup.....
@daleif don't suppose you could push an update in the next couple of days could you?? (otherwise it'll go out like that on the texlive 2016 dvd and you will get bug reports all year....)

@DavidCarlisle so much for backward compatibility. As far as I remember, memoir will use ifpdf and ifluatex if they are present.

@DavidCarlisle Expect l3pgf soon, once I've sorted out all of this l3galley stuff [where's FMi when you need him ;)]

6:28 PM
@Johannes_B Pizza

@DavidCarlisle if I can figure out what is wrong with the code. Personally I don't use lualatex that much as I see it as highly unstable

@daleif yes but ifpdf means writing pdf it doesn't mean pdftex and now doesn't mean \pdfoutput is defined (as Hans has renamed it to \outputmode)

I haven't had pizza in while.
2

@daleif join Joseph and my club:-)

@DavidCarlisle if time permits, I'll have a look tomorrow.

6:30 PM
@daleif simplest (but not necessarily best) is to add `\ifx\pdfextension\@undefined\else\RequirePackage{luatex85}\fi at the top of memoir then it'll load a compatibility package defining all the old names

@DavidCarlisle what about people who manually update memoir, if we change stuff and it does not work because they are still on old luatex

@daleif the above does nothing on old luatex (or pdftex or xetex) as pdfextension isn't defined so it is safe but luatex is so unstable that compatibility with older versions just can't be guaranteed, if you have actual lua code all the node interfaces have changed so making it work for more than one release is a nighmare

@Johannes_B Too bad -- it's nothing left -- we ate it completely

@DavidCarlisle i understand why Heiko got so salty

@Johannes_B: Preparing an answer to the template question? :D

@Davïd Saw it on twitter, inital thought: Overfull \hbox

@JosephWright If they can cope with me uploading oberdiek.zip every other day, they can cope with an l3galley update or two

8:06 PM
@DavidCarlisle I meant more that I've tracked down some things at the galley end, but I'm not sure I do all of the stuff mentioned in tex.stackexchange.com/questions/309426/… quickly

@JosephWright sure but do you mean update now before tl2016 dvd (in which case, basically just whatever you have now) or an update later in the year?

@DavidCarlisle Yeah, I'll probably do an update in a sec

@JosephWright ooh I think I've fixed all the luatex errors in ho-tex (apart from the memoir one, and expected ones like test files using xetex options etc)

@DavidCarlisle Phew

may be some lurking as I haven't checked every log yet and there's no advance classification of the tests (eg some need plain tex but i'm running all with latex for now) but ctan update for pdfrender, askinclude and ifpdf (again) coming up

8:53 PM
can someone help me
\documentclass[tikz]{standalone}
\usepackage{pgfplots}
%\pgfplotsset{compat=1.8}
\begin{document}
\begin{tikzpicture}[
declare function={
func(\x)= -1 +
and(\x>-1-\frac1n, \x<=1) * (2 - \x - \x*\x) +
and(\x>1, \x<=2) * (6 - 8*\x + 2*\x*\x) +
(\x>2) * (-10 + 6*\x - \x*\x);
}
]
\begin{axis}[
axis x line=middle, axis y line=middle,
ymin=-2, ymax=2, ytick={-2,...,2}, ylabel=$f_n(x)$,
xmin=-1, xmax=1, xtick={-1,...,1}, xlabel=$x$,
]
%\pgfplotsinvokeforeach{-2, 1, 2}{

%\addplot[blue, domain=-1:1, smooth]{func(x)};
i need to draw this :
f_n(t)=

\begin{cases}

-1,~ -1\leq t\leq -\frac1n,\\

\frac{t}{n},~~~\frac1n\leq t\leq \frac1n,\\

1,~~~~~\frac1n\leq t\leq 1.

\end{cases}
i don't know how to do

@JosephWright I wanted to check the changes in l3galley and got the last version from github and now get an error with this document
\documentclass[a5paper]{article}

\usepackage{l3galley}
\begin{document}

\begin{center}
blub
\end{center}
\vspace{10pt}
\end{document}

yo'
@Vrouvrou you better ask a question on the site, as people usually do.

@Vrouvrou What is n?

@UlrikeFischer Will take a look

$n$ is a naturel number
@TorbjørnT.

yo'
9:02 PM
@Vrouvrou That's not the most helpful clarification, and clearly shows why such questions shall not be posted in the chat.

i posted on the site they say to me that is not a question to poste

@Vrouvrou Yeah I got that. Anyway, \frac is a macro for typesetting fractions, not calculating one. use 1/n.

@UlrikeFischer Distraction from Eurovision ;)

@Vrouvrou When/where?

yo'
@Vrouvrou I can't see any question by you from the last 12 months?!

9:04 PM
i delete it

@Vrouvrou Well, there's nothing wrong with posting the code you had and asking what's wrong with it.

can you just tel me how to put -\frac1n and \frac1n

@Vrouvrou I just did.
1/n.

but where i must put it

yo'
@JosephWright If there's a recently deleted question, it should appear in 20k tools, right?

9:10 PM
@yo' Erm, I guess

yo'
@JosephWright Vrouvrou says he deleted his own question recently, I can't see it...

@DavidCarlisle It's hard to understand how the analog of \catcode`\_=12 for # can be interpreted as \catcode`#_=12. At Rome they would say “sei de coccio” (more or less “your head is made of earthenware”).

i'm asking the question now if someone want to help me

yo'
@egreg yeah, that guy seems to ask only very clever and profound questions

@yo' I can :-)

yo'
9:13 PM
@JosephWright I'll try again
@JosephWright I can't :-(

@yo' Ah, there we are then

yo'
(thought it could be a caching issue, but obviously not)

@egreg :-)

yo'
I promise this is my last rude comment in the discussion.

9:30 PM
@TorbjørnT. ?
are you there
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{pgfplots,amsmath}
%\pgfplotsset{compat=1.8}
\begin{document}
\begin{tikzpicture}[
declare function={
func(\x>-1,\x<=-1/\n)= -1 +
and(\x>-1/\n, \x<=1/\n) * (\x/\n) +
and(\x>1/\n, \x<=1) * (1);
}
]
\begin{axis}[
axis x line=middle, axis y line=middle,
ymin=-2, ymax=2, ytick={-2,...,2}, ylabel=$f_n(x)$,
xmin=-3, xmax=1, xtick={-1,...,1}, xlabel=$x$,
]
\pgfplotsinvokeforeach{-1, 0, 1}{
\addplot+[mark=none,thick,domain=-3:1,samples=100]{func(x,#1)};
}
\end{axis}
\end{tikzpicture}
can someone help me i need someting like this
@TorbjørnT.

@Vrouvrou Did you see my updated answer?

yes
it is not the same

@Vrouvrou Let me think for a bit.

Hello all! I'm developing a new package that generates dummy indexes for testing. Similar in concept to lipsum and blindtext but the dummy text is interspersed with \index. This should generate an index that's at least three pages (obviously dependent on page size, font etc), but it makes it easier to test headers/footers in a double-page spread. It includes extended Latin characters to test xindy/makeindex.
It's currently on my experimental code page. The index includes @Paulo, @David and @Joseph. Hope you don't mind :-)

Q: How is words order in sentences English?

justin77How is words order in all sentences English? Please express formula Thank you

Fantastic.

@AlanMunn :-)

@JosephWright Clearly the only sensible response is '42'.

@AlanMunn Or "one after the other"

@UlrikeFischer :) yes, that's even better. It's truly general, and works for all sentences!

@TorbjørnT. have an idea please

9:59 PM
@Vrouvrou I don't know what's wrong at the moment, sorry.

@UlrikeFischer Fixed version off to CTAN

@TorbjørnT. from where comes red and brown colors ?

@Vrouvrou Well, you get that for n=1. What did you expect for n=2?
@Vrouvrou Lines for n=-2 and n=2. Because of \pgfplotsinvokeforeach.

i don't understand

@Vrouvrou What part?

10:14 PM
n=2

@Vrouvrou There is an n in your equation. What result did you expect for n=2?

-1 when -1\leq t\leq -1/2, t/2,when -1/2\leq t\leq \frac12, 1, when \frac12\leq t\leq 1
the same picture

@Vrouvrou You can't expect the same picture for n=1 and n=2.

yes for n=1 it is different

@Vrouvrou The picture I showed in the (currently deleted) answer was correct according to your equation for n=1 and n=2, but it failed for n=-2.

10:21 PM
n is natural so it can't be <0

@Vrouvrou Right didn't consider that. But you were the one who had put -2 in the \pgfplotsforeachinvoke in the first place ..

why it is related to n ?
it is related to x
no?

@Vrouvrou Huh? There is very clearly an n in your equation, so how can it not depend on the value of n? And I assumed, due to the presence of \pgfplotsinvokeforeach, that you wanted to draw the function for different values of n. Was that incorrect?

no
not for different values of n

@Vrouvrou Sorry, my bad. Which n do you want to plot for then?

10:29 PM
n=2 for example

@Vrouvrou I undeleted my answer. That is the correct plot according to your equation.

mathematicaly it is not correct, it must be like my picture i don't uderstand the problem

@Vrouvrou See my update, was that what you expected?

thank you
