12:00 AM
@PauloCereda: Bye for now... thanks

@ChristianHupfer The best part. :)
@ChristianHupfer See ya! Take care!

@PauloCereda I'll do... and do start your serial voting promises (not for me, for other guys who need it more, e.g. @egreg and @DavidCarlisle and @HarishKumar and @Mico etc . ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Roger! :)

@PauloCereda: I said: Not for me!!!!

@ChristianHupfer A couple for you. :)
Don't worry. :) Ducks iz smarts! :)

12:03 AM
@PauloCereda Ducks eatz smarties rather ;-)

@ChristianHupfer ooh :)

@PauloCereda Thanks anyway.... see you

@ChristianHupfer See ya. <3

12:35 AM
@ChristianHupfer Very nice. :) If you vote 4-5 votes maxiimum per person per day then the algorithm gets shunned. :)

5 hours later…
5:33 AM
@HarishKumar That's what I do normally :D

5:57 AM
@ChristianHupfer :)

6:09 AM
goof morning! :)
3

@RomainPicot goof morning? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer tired :-P

2 hours later…
8:36 AM
@RomainPicot Maybe a typo, but a funny one!

Morning all

@JosephWright Good morning!

@egreg This week's entertainment: LuaTeX v0.81

@JosephWright New bugs to discover?

8:52 AM
@egreg It's definitely a typo ;-)

What would we do here?

Q: LyX - Does not appear to recognize all class variables

Marvin Ward JrI have written my dissertation with LyX (which has been great), but now I need to submit it. This means I need to accord with my school's template. I have acquired and installed the class components, but I am having difficulty with the title page of all things. The class holds variables for up...

9:09 AM
@barbarabeeton one for you! tex.stackexchange.com/questions/272491/…
@egreg ^^ :-)
@egreg no but at the current count it affects over 50 packages due to name changes of primitives....

yo'
@PauloCereda You can delete the meta Q now, I've got my silver badge so I don't need it anymore ;-)

@yo' <3

@DavidCarlisle Removed the pdf prefix?

@egreg yes pdfpagewidth --> pagewidth
@egreg some other ones as well, but that one affects most packages (and documents, probably)

@yo' tag badges are deleted if the votes 'vanish' ;-)

yo'
9:19 AM
@ChristianHupfer no badges are deleted, AFAIK

@yo' According to Meta.StackExchange Tag badges can be revoked (deleted is the wrong term, I know)

yo'
@ChristianHupfer ok, I didn't know

@yo' @PauloCereda: Keep your post ;-)

yo'
@ChristianHupfer he can't delete a post with undeleted answers (maybe undeleted answers with a positive score, I'm not sure, but this doesn't matter here)

@yo' Are you sure? I remember that a user removed his question when I had answered it already. I lost full 10 rep ;-)

yo'
9:23 AM
@ChristianHupfer that's strange

@yo' It's impossible to delete a question if an answer is accepted by the OP AFAIK

@yo' It happened about one year ago... I miss that 10 rep really ;-)
@RomainPicot Yes, that's the crusher... my answer wasn't accepted. And in addition: The user profile itself was deleted after that

yo'
@ChristianHupfer you seem to be right. Wow! That means I can annoy couple people :-)

@ChristianHupfer According to meta.stackexchange.com/questions/5221 questions with upvoted answers, an accepted answer, or multiple answers cannot be deleted by the asker.

@yo' Before you annoy some people enjoy some people ;-) Let's start with that
@TorbjørnT. Well, it must have been in conjunction with the deletion of the profile then?

yo'
9:27 AM
@ChristianHupfer possibly

@yo' You're on the safe side :D Profile with high rep can be deleted, but their votes etc. stick apparently. And I don't think that our Royal Duck will fly away from TeXDuck.SX .... @PauloCereda

10:09 AM
@ChristianHupfer Morning, have you followed the svmono question?

@Johannes_B Not really. I was away at my 'Hausarzt' ... The whole file seems to be screwed up totally

@ChristianHupfer :-D agreed with the last part.

@Johannes_B It's a XYZ question ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Ask me what i'm having for lunch.

@Johannes_B Dinosaur Liver? Sabertooth heart? I don't know

10:18 AM
@ChristianHupfer me neither.

@Johannes_B Hm,... how about fried claws from a Saxon crow? Very tasty, I suppose? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Fleischwurst angebraten, Zwiebel, Couscous, Reis, Tomatenmark. Keine Ahnung, was das ist.

@Johannes_B Leipziger Freiberger Allerlei? :D

@ChristianHupfer Libanesischer Couscoustopf nach Hausfrauenart.

@Johannes_B Dachte ich mir doch... Libanesisch und Fleischwurst .... das geht nicht komplett zusammen ;-)

10:30 AM
@ChristianHupfer That is the german influence. Cultural mixing of spices and tastes.
@ChristianHupfer Looks like something they would serve in african refugee camps.

@Johannes_B Bon appetite anyway ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Wanna know what it tastes like? No, you don't want to know.

@Johannes_B Yes, I am pretty sure that I don't want to know

2 hours later…
12:26 PM
why does hspace in \item Max columns general: \hspace{0cm} 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19(?) add horizontal space?

yo'
@Lembik because there is a space character after it.

@yo' ok but if I remove the hspace and leave the space character there is no space
which confuses me
@yo' why does this happen?

@Lembik ` ` is one space ` {} ` is 2 (the \hspace{0cm} isn't doing much

yo'
@Lembik Sorry, no MWE, no clue.

:24656373 it's not worth it:-)

yo'
12:31 PM
@DavidCarlisle indeed.

@DavidCarlisle thanks!

@Lembik the compression of multiple spaces to 1 happens at the input token level not when typestetting

thank you that is really very helpful

also just got an awesome reply to my question on tex.se
tex.se is amazing :)

12:47 PM
@yo' Damn ... 18 minutes? Quick zapping indeed. :(

yo'
@AdamLiter a common thing in new sites: MF moderators thinking they're semi-gods

@egreg +1-ed and accepted. Thanks! Sorry it took me a while. I was at a conference this weekend. I'm now in the airport waiting for my return flights. Hope you weren't already rep capped. :p

yo'
@AdamLiter So it is off-topic on japanese, and seems to be off-topic also on english. WHAT?!

@yo' That seems counterproductive if they want their site to graduate ... ?

yo'
@AdamLiter I'm pretty pissed off just now, I tell you.

12:53 PM
@yo' Damn, that makes the advice from that moderator pointless ...
@yo' Yeah, I would be too. :/ Hopefully you get an answer!

@yo' Sorry to be that far away, i would really like to give you an orange.

yo'
@Johannes_B :)

@yo' It would be just as pointless as the comments you collected for your question, but it least you would get some vitamins. ;-)

yo'
@Johannes_B <3

@yo' :-)

yo'
1:16 PM
but I found a fun fact: I can create as many accounts as I wish it seems :-)

@AdamLiter Don't worry! Happy it was good for your needs.

2:24 PM
@yo' Came from Japanese.SE, sorry your question was closed. As a typographer, I recommend hyphenating at Aki-yama (where the kanji characters are separated), and then Akiya-ma as a fallback. Anywhere else would be weird.

yo'
@mirka Thank you very much! Well, if you feel sorry it was closed and you think it's on-topic, you can give a chance to it by voting for re-opening :-)

No problem. Bye!

2:41 PM
Is a question like the following (apr. 2015) on topic? All an answer can provide is ... well, not much (see the only comment there)

Q: Template for The American Naturalist Journal

Augusto RibasDoes anyone know of a template for manuscripts of The American Naturalist Journal. On the instructions to the authors they say they accept manuscripts in latex, but, if i'm not missing something important, they does not give a template like other journals. Take plos one for example. I got the b...

2:53 PM
There is one thing i want to know: Who added the template description on the template site and what did he take before doing so?

@Johannes_B What do you mean by 'take'? Swallowing some strange pills?

@ChristianHupfer Yes. I mean, look at them.

yo'
@Johannes_B The American Naturist? :D
And to your question, IMHO it's off-topic.

3:14 PM
@egreg: espn.uol.com.br/noticia/… (in Portuguese). Palmeiras' president says Pirlo's agent contacted him. :)

@PauloCereda The first player from Juve to Palmeiras?

@egreg I think so! :)

@yo' Hello.
I saw had you a question on the Japanese stackexchange that might not have been answered.

yo'
@Ninj0r hi, sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. The question was closed. I got my answer elsewhere, so even though I think it should be reopened, I do not care anymore.

For hyphenation of Akiyama in romaji, A-ki-ya-ma would make sense but I would recommend Aki-yama as that is the split of the kanji.

yo'
3:25 PM
@Ninj0r well, A-kiyama is forbidden in Latin script typography in general, because you don't separate a single letter. So with this rule in mind, I would go with Aki-yama, using Akiya-ma as a last resort.

@Ninj0r \hyphenation{Aki-yama} in the preamble, if you're not using babel.

@yo' I understand. I'm glad to hear you got an answer; I came here because I thought I could help and didn't know you had found an answer. Akiya-ma might be weird to read for people who understand Japanese but I understand typesetting is difficult.
@yo'
@yo' So given what you said about A-ki-ya-ma not being possible, I would try to go with Aki-yama if possible.
@egreg Sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about...

@Ninj0r So it was to @yo', sorry. Who of course know about \hyphenation.

@egreg Ah ok.

yo'
@egreg I know. However, I want to avoid hyphenating foreign names, so I use it only when a bad box appears that I can't easily resolve in a better way

3:32 PM
@yo' so I found a hyphenated Japanese name in a translated novel I have. One moment.

yo'
@PauloCereda Meanwhile, my temptation for tagging your question as a is slowly taking control of me :-)

yo'
@Ninj0r oh thank you!

@yo' take a look at this from "Mushashi" by Kodansha, a Japanese publisher
They split the name along the kanji
@yo' No problem. For what it is worth I also though that your question was valid and that is why I came here.

yo'
@Ninj0r well, soon you'll have the vote privilege, so you can vote to reopen it :-)

3:44 PM
@yo' Also Kodansha is one of the biggest Japanese publishers... (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodansha) so I think if they hyphenate like this then I think you are pretty safe to do so

yo'
@Ninj0r good :-)

yo'
@Ninj0r if I get my 2-year internship in Japan, I'll read it ;-)

@yo' Good luck. I'm living in Japan so please message me if you get it. Btw- the picture is from Page 591 of that book that I linked you too. A highly recommended read :)
@yo' Anyways, I'm glad I could help. Good luck in your endeavors and take care :)

@yo' Do it. :)

yo'
4:02 PM
@Ninj0r thank you once more!
@PauloCereda I'm afraid it does not qualify as a bug...

@DavidCarlisle Any thoughts on my team mail?

4:32 PM
@JosephWright some but thought let others chip in, on your second on .81 I suppose I should look to see how hard it is to build from source, xetex turned out to be relatively straightforward... On the first on drivers, it depends. I'm not sure "pdfmode" is necessarily the right abstraction, if luatex for example ends up with dvi pdf and html output modes with similar feature coverage in pdf and html, which is extended from the pdf coverage in pdftex, it doesn't necessarily help to
... force the pdfoutput modes of different engines to be unified in the macro layer, perhaps.

@DavidCarlisle On the 0.81 business, the issue is I believe that pdftexconfig.tex needs to know the right primitive names, and that means addressing \pageheight, etc. early. I'm promised a 'pre-release' version of LuaTeX.
@DavidCarlisle LuaTeX producing DVI output uses a driver just like pdfTeX: dvips, dvipdfmx, etc. A direct HTML mode would be another driver (but likely built-in).
@DavidCarlisle Similar coverage in say PDF and HTML would be handled by DocStrip I'd hope
@DavidCarlisle Actually, re-reading Akira's mail we might not need to do anything :-)

@JosephWright I'm not sure I understand the difference between a built in driver and a pdf backend. But offline for a bit, back online once I'm home:-)

@DavidCarlisle Cool
@DavidCarlisle I'll drop you a mail explaining how I see it :-)

5:43 PM
@JosephWright: Perhaps a little action is needed: The answer is given in Polish language and is accepted ...

A: How to move logo on title page to right side in Torino/Beamer style?

ciasteczkowyPotwornie wiem ale pozdrawiam. za mało znaków więc pozdrawiam raz jeszcze.

6:10 PM
@ChristianHupfer Zapped

@JosephWright Thanks!
@JosephWright: If the translation is correct I wonder how the O.P. could ever accept it ;-)

but...
Is there a way to modify it so every time I put a box I will give a path to an image so every box gets a theme instead of having 2-3 different predefined box styles
also if I put text it runs through the image, can I avoid that?

6:27 PM
@user2692669 You should ask your fellow friends of the Dark Side ;-) You know, the TikZ mafia ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I thought this was THE TikZ mafia

@user2692669: ;-) Gonzalo Medina forgot to add that a \newtcolorbox can have an optional argument, in which you could set you special TikZ settings as he has done directly with the interior code= option

@ChristianHupfer I'm sorry I can't follow everything you said, I'm Latex agnostic :P

@user2692669: \newtcolorbox{ideabox}[1][]{.... stuff by Gonzalo, #1}` ,then call \begin{ideabox}[interior code={...your path }].... \end{ideabox}
@user2692669: Sadly I missed this question :-) I probably could have get some rep :-(

@ChristianHupfer I'll try it and get back to you, I notified him in tghe comment section about these problems, maybe he fixes it (Text running though image).

6:38 PM
@user2692669 Added comment too about the optional argument
@UlrikeFischer: Our common project has not come to an end so far :-(

@ChristianHupfer You live in a place called Black Forest, magical!

@user2692669 Thanks... it's not only a place, it's a philosophy ;-) Black Forest lends its darkness to the night :D

@ChristianHupfer Be carefull of the Tex Blair Witch or she might steal off all your tex points! And make you use MS Word!

@user2692669 Pssssh .... You used a naughty word.... MS Word ....

@ChristianHupfer I fear for the happy end ...

6:53 PM
@ChristianHupfer I can go even darker... SHE WON'T LET YOU USE GARAMOND!

@UlrikeFischer Zollprobleme, wahrscheinlich
@user2692669 Who is SHE????? Princess Leia? Wonder Woman? Arwen of LOTR? Carrie Heffernan?

@ChristianHupfer I told you... She is the Tex Blair witch. Make her angry, and all your fonts will become... commercial!

@user2692669 No, we will burn the TeX Blair Witch on the stake, made of papers using Comic Sans font

@user2692669 Mind the capitalisation. :)

@ChristianHupfer If she sees that, she will tattoo Lorem Ipsum with that font in your arm!
Speaking of fonts, how great are these videos? youtube.com/watch?v=m6djQHeqMwQ and youtube.com/watch?v=i3k5oY9AHHM

7:03 PM

@user2692669: I am usually satisfied with the standard fonts

@ChristianHupfer @PauloCereda @yo' Look what htop presented me. ^^^^

@ChristianHupfer Did you see the ending? It has a special meaning :P

@Johannes_B oh

@PauloCereda No idea what was happening, but i never had a load that high before.

7:14 PM
@Johannes_B: Is there anything special?

@ChristianHupfer The language? Scroll down to my comment.

@ChristianHupfer christian I used the #1 solution thing inside the code (so if I say [lightbuld] then it includes lightbulb, but how can I create a condition that if I don't define anything then it won't include the graphic

@ChristianHupfer something like if (#1 is defined) then {this code} else {this code}

@Johannes_B: No sorry, I meant your top screenshot

7:21 PM
@ChristianHupfer Ah, look at the load values. I would call that special.

@user2692669 difficult to explain in chat
@Johannes_B: You mean the 0.0% CPU load?

@PauloCereda youtu.be/rxxCa18itZs

@ChristianHupfer Load of 80 completely sucked up by low-priority processes.

@ChristianHupfer can I use a different method? I'm sure it's written somewhere, I'm searching it in the meanwhile

@Johannes_B @StefanKottwitz Have you seen stuff like that before? Done a shutdown and restarted and everything was back to normal. But it was quite scary seeing the load rise and rise and rise.

7:27 PM
@daleif oooooooh

@PauloCereda just came up in my YT stream, there was obviously only one place to send it. Haven't even seen it yet.

@daleif :)

@user2692669 If you want to use a \if... clause in option keys -- difficult!!!

@ChristianHupfer I'm trying this but it needs work : tex.stackexchange.com/questions/53068/…

@user2692669 Yeah, I think that won't work. Better you ask a question with you specific needs. I don't think I can answer that, but others will be able to do so

8:09 PM
@Johannes_B Yes, sometimes. Even my Macbook sometimes runs like crazy. Slows down, fan gets louder, hotter, still responsive but hardly a real command in the terminal, sometimes I needed to shut it off.
@Johannes_B But that's because the Macbook often runs month without a reboot, just standby.
@Johannes_B It happens, a buggy thing eats the CPU :-) that's PCs :-) what I regularly encounter, is that attackers eat database connections, processes and such, on servers, such as DOS attacks without intention just badly brute force

8:30 PM
@StefanKottwitz First time i ever encountered that behaviour. But good to know others have seen something similar once in a while.

8:56 PM
@Johannes_B I guess the exact case is different. In my case, surprisingly the fan gets loud and louder, the laptop hot, I still can switch between programs, but at the terminal no "ps" or "top" gets started anymore, no response. I think Parallels caused it at such times.
