@egreg just out of curiosity, how come you don't like graphicspath?

@cmhughes It may be useful, but you lose control about what files are really loaded. I've seen cases where files with the same name were in different subdirectories.

@egreg yes, I can see that might happen. Thanks for clarifying :)

1:47 AM
I think @DavidCarlisle has the highest star count of the whole StackExchange universe. :)

@PauloCereda it does seem that way :) is it recorded anywhere?

@cmhughes I'll count it later. :)

@PauloCereda roger that :)

Hi
I have a question in latex tables

@user1460166 Hi, shoot.

4:43 AM
@Qrrbrbirlbel … or don’t.

OMG!! I just edited an @egreg answer, now I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I did not screw up -- and no I did NOT add \ensuremath :-)

Hi
I have a question in Latex tables
if anyone could help me please

@user1460166 You need to ask the question, otherwise no one can help you.

Q: Fit table in page column also some editing

user1460166I want to make the table fit into 1 column in a two column page. Also, I need it to look like the pic but I couldn't upload my pic as my reputation is less than 5, so if any one could help me please. Here is my code: \begin{table}[t] \centering \centering \adjustbox{max height=\dimexpr\textheig...

@user1460166 Upload the pic as Werner requested:
Please include the image as a link. Community members will be able to edit your post and embed the image. — Werner 2 hours ago
In ![description][1] remove the !.

I did now
If you could please check it

6:52 AM
@user1460166 I'm working on something. Stay calm. ;)
@user1460166 Are those many lines really necessary? They're hurting more than they help …

Thanks man
which lines?
i only need the bolded lines the grey ones are from the excel file

@user1460166 Yeah, I don't think you should use so many lines, but OK

I've uploaded how the table appears with my code

7:13 AM
@GarbageCollector You are, of course, correct (about using \ln). I have already swapped & and = from the original code and wrote something on the left side of the equation. (Mathematicians may also argue about the d.) I don't feel like updating code and/or picture, though. Let’s wait whether that actually answers/solves OP’s question/problem.
@user1460166 I’m heading to bed now. Hopefully my answer helps you. Maybe someone also writes up a booktabs answer.

ok
thank you very much
sweet dreams
just a question
if I want to remove the borders in the first group of scores like the rest?
I did it thanks (Y)
@Q
@Qrrbrbirlbel are you still here?

7:59 AM
@Speravir Thanks for the pointer!

@mhelvens (and other interested readers) The LaTeX3 update including fixed \prop_map_tokens:Nn has gone to CTAN today
I'm hoping people like the improved xparse behaviour in the case \foo[{bar}]{baz}

9:57 AM
@MarcoDaniel do you want to help me with this page about latex3? texfragen.de/was_ist_latex3_und_wie_kann_ich_es_benutzen

10:30 AM
LOL

@PauloCereda We get into deep trouble. WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE! Help!

@topskip :)

10:49 AM
@topskip I can probably contribute something :-)

@JosephWright Great! If you prefer you can even write in english. I'll translate it later.

@topskip I'll probably do that: my German is OK but not to 'production' standard

@JosephWright you should be able to edit without an account

@topskip Will do, perhaps later today

@JosephWright @topskip I will contribute too

10:52 AM
@MarcoDaniel Cool

11:03 AM
@JosephWright I think you said you can not merge accounts anymore but tex.stackexchange.com/questions/102038/… seems to be a repost of tex.stackexchange.com/questions/102077/… with a different user account

I can't understand this question:

Q: Which database documentation software do you use for LaTeX (in Linux)?

MMAI am looking for a database documentation software where I want to incorporate the output in LaTeX. I want to show the table structures, primary keys and other related information. I found pst-dbicons (http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/graphics/pstricks/contrib/pst-dbicons) at CTAN. I will forced ...

Does the OP want to automatically generate the schema in LaTeX?

For those that like these things, some font-froth

@Brent.Longborough ooh cool!

@PauloCereda OTF and TTF but no .mf -- don't know how well they scale - there are comminations about CSS, saying "make them a multiple of 16px or they will be fuzzy"
@PauloCereda My favourite is the 404 icon, which I will engineer into \farofa

@Brent.Longborough LOL
@Brent: mandatory soundtrack: youtube.com/watch?v=tvZaAXkRBaw

@PauloCereda OMG, I've been Mauro-Celso-rolled :_)

@Brent.Longborough LMAO
I blame my dad for presenting me this monstruosity. :)

1:37 PM
@PauloCereda Hmm, your dad has a lot to answer for :p

@Brent.Longborough He has two CD's of the old festivais. :) There are some cool songs in there, but the majority... :)

ooh XeTeX 0.9999.0 released

Did you guys see the TeX Live update for today
79 package updates from just today :o

@DavidCarlisle What is XeTeX? :P

@DavidCarlisle Let's hope it can be tested in time for inclusion in TeX Live 2013.

1:46 PM
ooh I think it's a generic engine, similar to the Ford Zetec. :) Ford XeTeX. :)

user19161
@PauloCereda The correct spellings are "monstrous" and "monstrosity". =)

@JasperLoy Oopsie.
:)

user19161
@PauloCereda It is a palindrome. =)

@PauloCereda not sure exactly I think it's even more modern than etex

@JasperLoy No it's not. The palindrome is XɘTeX
2
@DavidCarlisle Isn't it an acronym for eXtended etex?

1:57 PM
@DavidCarlisle same numbering scheme as bibtex? :)

@Brent.Longborough apparently so:
"The name was chosen to imply an eXtended version of eTeX, along with an
association with MacOSX (which was initially the only target platform). As one
of the intended uses was for typesetting right-to-left scripts, a palindromic
name seemed like fun; and the properly-typeset version is supposed to use the
Unicode character U+018A LATIN CAPITAL LETTER REVERSED E for the first lowered
“E”, hinting at support of much more than the basic Western character set."

@DavidCarlisle Of course, once I know how to manipulate sidebearings, I'll move to LuaTeX. Better wait sitting down, I already blew 500 bounty down the pan on that one.

2:34 PM
@egreg finally found a question to answer:-)

@DavidCarlisle I had to rush. :)

Hello!

3:00 PM
@tohecz seems like we are all ignoring you.

@tohecz Hi Tom!

Is anyone using Mountain Lion on a Mac who can test an applescript in TeXShop?

@AlanMunn Gimme a minute. I'll go to oxford. :)
@AlanMunn: locked and loaded.

@paulocereda The script is here: tex.stackexchange.com/a/28688/2693

@AlanMunn Where do I add this script?

3:15 PM
@JosephWright We've a new user enthusiast with edits; I tried rejecting one with a message telling why and not only "too minor", but the edit was approved before my rejection. :( I'll retry.

@PauloCereda Sorry. Open the Macro Editor and paste it in and then assign it a key.

@egreg Sorry, I accepted one but rejected the others, once I saw that it was obviously an edit-streak. Maybe it was me

@percusse No problem.

@AlanMunn AppleScript error. :(

@PauloCereda Damn. This is one area where Apple really sucks. Applescripts are very fragile when the OS changes. Thanks. I'll leave a comment but I can't debug the problem at the moment. The script works fine on my machine running Snow Leopard.

3:22 PM
@AlanMunn: ^^

@PauloCereda Right, and I have no idea where in the code that should arise from.

@AlanMunn I'm a newbie at this. :(

@PauloCereda Don't worry about is. I'm sure arara can do this. Is there a way to specify which extensions the 'clean' option cleans?

@AlanMunn Sadly, the clean directive is file-based, but I can write a new rule that does exactly that, thanks to our items iterator. :)

@PauloCereda What do you mean, 'file-based'?

3:27 PM
@AlanMunn For 'clean', you need to specify the files via % arara: clean: { files: [ foo.aux, foo.log ] }
I can write a 'cleantwo' with % arara: cleantwo: { items: [ aux, log ] } instead :)

@PauloCereda I see. The reason I like the script I use is that I don't have to remember all the possible aux files (this is especially true for beamer and biblatex which produce a lot, and often they can inhibit subsequent compilations, so deleting them is often necessary.

@AlanMunn It's a great approach.

3:53 PM
@Brent.Longborough your MWE is rubbish then:-)

4:22 PM
@Brent.Longborough And now the problem is?

4:51 PM
I found inconsistent name again in PSTricks, \pgfforeach: tex.stackexchange.com/a/83326/19356

@GarbageCollector Why is that inconsistent? presumably the macro isn't from pstricks really, the file loads pgffor from the pgf code.
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pstricks/pstricks.tex
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/xkeyval/pst-xkey.tex)
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pstricks/pst-fp.tex
`pst-fp' v0.05, 2010/01/17 (hv))
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pgf/utilities/pgfutil-common.te
x)
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pgf/utilities/pgfkeys.code.tex
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pgf/utilities/pgfkeysfiltered.c
ode.tex))
(/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pgf/utilities/pgffor.code.tex)

@DavidCarlisle Because this new macro is defined inside pstricks core even though it might just encapsulate an external macro. PSTricks' macros are usually defined with prefix ps or pst.
Rather than using this new macro, it will be clearer if I just use pgffor's foreach directly. :D
\input pgffor.code.tex
\let\pgfforeach\foreach

5:08 PM
@GarbageCollector oh I assumed it was the pgf macro name. My knowledge of Tikz/pgf could be greater:-)

5:28 PM
Hey guys, I have a quick question about sectioning. I posted this (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/102084/…) question about a paragraph spacing issue I had. The answer fixed the issue but now, the problem is that when I section different parts with a actual information, not ipsum, the weird paragraph spacing comes back. When I do \clearpagebefore the troubled section, the spacing is back.
Is there any way to fix this issue without using \clearpage?

@gekkostate well presumably you real content is introducing vertical spacing that pushes you off the grid, lists? display math? images?

@DavidCarlisle I have no lists, math or images. I have a quotation however but that is not in the section that has the issue

@gekkostate well LaTeX doesn't read the words so if it was the same as lipsum but with different words you'd get the same layout. So something is different

@DavidCarlisle Yes, that it is what I am confused about. Should I be fixing these quotes (" ") with ('' ``)?
Aside from that and the quote that I have, there is nothing different.

@gekkostate I can't guess. Remove things one at a time until things snap back on to the grid, then the last thing you removed is the thing that you need to fix.

5:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle Alright, I will try what I can and see if anything works.

Q: Font style in mdframed

SabreWolfyI use the following mdframed definition: \newmdenv[ rightline=false, leftline=true, topline=false, bottomline=false, innerbottommargin=11pt, innertopmargin=\topskip, splittopskip=\topskip, skipbelow=\baselineskip, skipabove=\baselineskip, innerleftmargin=11pt, innerrightm...

@JosephWright: Thanks

Just uploaded a new package: feynmp-auto. I ignore what a Feynman diagram means, but they are nice. ;-)

@egreg has it got any bugs?

@DavidCarlisle Of course it has. You can enjoy finding them.

2 hours later…
8:45 PM
There is a problem at imgur.
I always fail to upload to imgur.com.

@GarbageCollector With no indication what went wrong?

@Qrrbrbirlbel: I will upload the screenshot of the error message later.
I uploaded the error message from imgur.com directly (as opposed to from stackexchange.com).

9:04 PM

A: There should be a more descriptive error on image uploading failures

balphaThe upload error message now contains additional information about the kind of the error: an error occured on the server – that means the error occured on our server; in other words, it's a LOLcat in disguise. Highly unlikely, because we don't produce bugs. couldn't reach imgur – so...

@GarbageCollector To quote: “[T]he format is not supported – imgur returned a 400 Bad Request; the by far most likely cause of this is that the image you uploaded has an unsupported format or is corrupt.”

@Qrrbrbirlbel No. My image is normal PNG, I can upload it to imgur.com directly.

@GarbageCollector I quoted the wrong message: “the request got through, but imgur returned a 500 Internal Server Error or 503 Service Unavailable. Highly unlikely, because they also don't produce bugs.”
@GarbageCollector I can upload your picture from imgur to imgur (web source), even in your own answer. ;)

@Qrrbrbirlbel Uploading the image from my computer to imgur.com using tex.sx user interface is not possible temporarily.

@GarbageCollector I'm just saying. Uploading it from imgur works.

@Qrrbrbirlbel Yes. I also can upload to imgur.com directly (using its user iinterface). :D
Problem solved, it can be uploaded to imgur with tex.sx user interface.

9:14 PM
@DavidCarlisle thanks nice answer :)

@DavidCarlisle 'Fraid so.
@egreg The main problem is as stated by David - my MWE is rubbish.

@Brent.Longborough I tried to interpret the new form of the question, but I'm not sure I nailed it.

@Brent.Longborough but you are forgiven for giving me a double present of moving the tick from @egreg to me:-)

@egreg Actually, it's even more complex than that.
@DavidCarlisle I don't think I actually ticked @egreg, did I? Sorry, I've had a very bad day.

@StefanKottwitz do you have any time stamp on texdoc.net when it was last updated ?

9:23 PM
@Brent.Longborough oh hadn't you? that's a shame I was quite happy to have stolen one:-)

Now I have a problem between mathtools, unicode-math, and bytefield, but I'm going very slow, so I can produce a half-decent MWE. What's worse, I don't even remember why I wanted the first two, though some of my typesetting is, for some reason, pants without them.
What's a good (free as in beer) math font to go with Minion Pro?

@Brent.Longborough Minion Math from Johannes Küster (but not free)

@Herbert Yes, I'd found that, but unfortunately the font jar is empty at the moment...

@Brent.Longborough I use Minion with Math and Myriad

@Herbert Yes, a while back I got Minion and Myriad, but forgot the math

1 hour later…
10:49 PM
@Brent.Longborough mathtools changes several things, so it's difficult to trace down where the problem arises. :(

11:09 PM
@egreg Yes, the whole thing looks rather precarious. Did you see that amsmath also causes produces the same problem?

@Brent.Longborough I saw it.

@Herbert: What is wrong in my code below? It failed to compile in PostScript phase.
\documentclass[pstricks,border=12pt]{standalone}
\usepackage{pst-eucl}
\addtopsstyle{gridstyle}{gridlabels=0pt,griddots=0}
\makeatletter

@egreg, still looking for tables questions? do you know anything about classicthesis?
0
A: Appendix with mostly tables—problems with floats and longtable

David CarlisleNon answer in case anyone wants to work on this over (GMT) night. A more M MWE is \documentclass{book} \usepackage{classicthesis} \makeatletter \usepackage{longtable} \usepackage{lscape} \begin{document} \chapter{Data} \begin{landscape} \begin{longtable}{|l|} a\endfirsthead b\endhead cc...

@DavidCarlisle I know it's a mess. :)

11:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle It's soul the problem.

@egreg just saw your answer on site:-) I was suspecting the various page shipout hooks loaded,

@DavidCarlisle I really don't know why it happens.
@DavidCarlisle For the +10 you should have voted a bit later. ;-)
The gold badge should arrive tomorrow. :)

@egreg well I did retag the question a bit:-)

@DavidCarlisle That's almost cheating!

@egreg not really the tag I removed wasn't relevant, but having retagged it I thought I'd ping you.
but my soul hasn't got a pdfspacing option so I'm confused
oh sorry classicthesis option, I see
