9:01 PM
@egreg: when I saw Motta playing, I was like, "oh no no no no!" :P

I like how fast the discussion went from soccer to opera!
This could only happen in a $\LaTeX$ chatroom... =)

@N3buchadnezzar There's no need to enclose that in $$, you know? :)
Of course, \LaTeX\` or \LaTeX{}` might be better. :)
I have no bloody idea how to escape \. :P

Ah, but there is a script to activate mathjack in chat.

@N3buchadnezzar No MathJax here, please! Sometimes we're even discussing TeX.

@egreg But not using dollar signs? ... Bambi eyes

9:08 PM
@N3buchadnezzar Well, \LaTeX is text mode command, so it's wrong anyway :-)

@JosephWright I could be worse. Don't we have a starred message with $LatEx$? :)
3

@PauloCereda We do now

@N3buchadnezzar :-)

@N3buchadnezzar nooooooooooooo!
It's true, we had one. :)

@FrankMittelbach's just arrived, no one mention the football

9:11 PM
So how was the cricket match today?

@DavidCarlisle Who cares about the football: what about the tennis result!

@JosephWright Roland Garros?

@DavidCarlisle I'm here all evening trying to finish my talk for Boston ... what football?

@FrankMittelbach Cool
@FrankMittelbach I'm also working on a talk, but for different reasons.

@DavidCarlisle ah you mean soccer?

9:13 PM
@FrankMittelbach Do we get a preview?

A bike ride, a football game, all in the same day and @egreg still hits the rep cap. :)

@DavidCarlisle We did talk about football, then suddenly we were talking about fat ladies singing in operas.

@JosephWright sure if you like ...

The we changed to mathmode and the urge of not enabling MathJaX here.

9:14 PM
It's okay, I suspect I can guess the key points :-)

Any livestream for TUG2012?

all courtesy of Paulo :-)

@FrankMittelbach It's an honour and a privilege, Frank. :)

@PauloCereda Did you ever do the Portuguese translation of our UK-TUG slides? I'm running the course again in a few weeks :-)

@FrankMittelbach I really like the one in the north east and north west node =)

9:17 PM
@N3buchadnezzar jury isn't out yet

@JosephWright I tried to start the translation, but sadly I got involved with some heavy development and had to stop for a moment. I plan to resume my work on them. :)

@Joseph but that't actually not the one I was writing on ...

I need to fork your repository. Then it will be official. :)

This made me wonder where they place the 2 in the current latex version.

I had a crazy idea of translating the TeX Live readme to Portuguese. Karl liked the idea, but I didn't have time to work on it too. :(

9:19 PM

@FrankMittelbach Ah, all the LuaTeX questions!

here is the one that I'm more concerned with ... as you see still all fairly red / orange
@JosephWright yes ... trying to see what really is available

@JosephWright Do they need to become green?

@PauloCereda Happily also David has. :) So he can get to 200k before me.

@egreg Now we need to have an evil plot to make David reach 100k. :) Then the 200k. :)

9:22 PM
@PauloCereda yes in theory ... that's the idea
and with LuaTeX and all the other developments in the last two decades the colors are my conclusion

Cool. :)

green = fine

I hope they broadcast the keynotes. :)

yellow = there is now something to solve it in theory but not done
orange = underlying subs are a mix of red and yellow
red = we are still not having any solution

@FrankMittelbach Does @DavidCarlisle know all his work is now not solved?

9:25 PM
ah and light green is a mix of yellow and green
@AlanMunn we are talking engine level not programming level

@FrankMittelbach I know. Sorry I left off the :)

@PauloCereda I'd imagine River Valley will handle it as usual

@JosephWright Great!

@AlanMunn for example TeX doesn't offer any concepts for spanning both horizontally and vertically within one table ... doesn'T mean that with enough fiddling you can do something

@FrankMittelbach I'm not looking forward to tables: hopefully @DavidCarlisle and @BrunoLeFloch will take it!

9:27 PM
tables across multiple pages aren't conceptually not available in Tex either, though David and others solved that on the macro level elegantly enough

@FrankMittelbach What do you mean by "spanning" in this context?

@AlanMunn I guess that there is no \span for rows

@AlanMunn cell combinations as in \multicolumn

@FrankMittelbach Ah, ok. Yes, that's true. In fact there's not much in the way of row based stuff at all.

We need a TeX.sx reporter. I vote @AlanMunn. :)

9:30 PM
@PauloCereda Why me?

@AlanMunn Because you are a trusted user. :)
Then you can go from Michigan to Boston. :)

@PauloCereda Oh, now I get it. So I'm supposed to report back on all the talks. I'm not sure I'm competent for that.

@AlanMunn Of course you are. :)
I have even a travel plan:
<3

@PauloCereda You added a lot of extra distance to the beginning of my trip. (I'm in Lansing).

Caps lock is a key on many computer keyboards. Pressing it sets an input mode in which typed letters are uppercase by default (i.e. in All caps). The keyboard remains in caps lock mode until the key is pressed again. On some computers, holding down the shift key while caps lock is on temporarily switches to lowercase. User interfaces Keyboards often include a small LED to indicate that caps lock is active—either on the key itself, or in a row with scroll lock and num lock indicators. However, some new laptop and wireless desktop keyboards lack the LED, instead providing software that...
HAPPY CAPS LOCK DAY!

9:37 PM
@PauloCereda wtf?

@AlanMunn I noticed that after I printed the map. :)
International Caps Lock Day

June 28th and October 22nd are annually marked as International CAPS LOCK DAYS as a parody holiday first noted in 2000.[3][4] Rivaling Caps Lock Days have been since set up, such as August 22nd.
@AlanMunn :)

@PauloCereda actually I could proably make use of one for expl3 as well ... not sure how that should look like though

@FrankMittelbach Sure! :)

for this bit here (i used one of the L3 ones but ...
as you can see I already changed my mind and upgraded the TeX language to light green
(for tonight anyway)

@FrankMittelbach I have mass in 30 minutes, but as soon as I get back, I'll work on a nice logo for expl3. :)

9:49 PM
@PauloCereda take your time ... I'll switch gears now an get back to my book (A Short History of Nearly Everything) ... it's anyway close to midnight

@FrankMittelbach Ah. :) I'll send you a sketch by tomorrow morning. :)

@JosephWright good luck ... more important than mine I guess
@PauloCereda thanks in advance

@FrankMittelbach I have a few days yet (interview is Wednesday)

@JosephWright fingers crossed

10:38 PM
@Werner \ooalign is best for superimposing two symbols. Why the \rlap?

@egreg ...that was some debugging that I forgot...
I also see now what you mean by \ialign rather than \ooalign.

@Werner \ialign is just \halign with zero \tabskip and empty \everycr

11:17 PM
I've voted for Too Localized for the following:

Q: tikz-uml - class siagram for an entity

maditWith tikz-uml, how can I underline the name of an entity in the first compartment of an \umlclass{sultan:dog} ? Normal \textsl{} = bug use of \umlstatic{} = bug (only for attributes ... also NOT FOR methods) !

11:30 PM
Back from the mass. Tomorrow is St. Peter's day. :)
@egreg: Can I ask you a favour? I have a RC version of the arara installer (which is also written in Java), but no Java 5 to test it. Could you test it for me? There's no need to install, I only need to know if the installer is launched properly. :)
