How can I block specific telephone numbers on my iPhone? I don't want to get call from specific numbers. if anyone call to me from the blocked number, he should receive a message that "this number does not exist" or "this number is busy" always.
People have problems with abusive callers. Especially now with political blah blah blah going on full steam. And it's only going to get worse as the year goes on.
I don't know what I need to ask, hence asking you guys.
But, can anyone explain how the hotspot feature works in iPhone 4 and above
Namely, not how to get it working, but what is the deciding factor in even having it show up as an option?
I want to use it, but my carrier seemingly doesn;t support it.
How does it even know?
Is the OS hardcoded with a supported carrier list? Even on my previous carrier that did support it, it wouldn;t enable, and asked me to call them up for them to do it for me.
So i hear that jailbreaking can re-enable this option. I'm on a 4(not s), latest OS. I did jailbreak once when I was on 3.x, but didn't care for the fuss.
I've heard of the "main menu" option disappearing, and being regained by setting up the Hotspot in General but as I've always had a network that would allow it (if I give up my unlimited plan and pay them more money) I wasn't aware of that feature.
beh, whatever, sorry for all the scrolling around and noise
@stuffe How do you expect Apple / the iPhone to ask if you have tethering capability?
If they don't know how, how can it be done? Again, the carrier definitions file tells the iPhone about a huge amount of information. MMS, Tethering, Voicemail, I think the 'Services' section is entirely populated by the carrier definitions file.
And if you don't have a definitions file, it functions at a much more basic level.
(Services = Settings > Phone > "$carrier Services" at the bottom)
@JasonSalaz I don't, it's a false question, the option to turn it on or off should always be there (if you ask me), it can happily upon turning it on send a text to the carrier to do a profile send or something to check if it's not allowed, that would allow all carriers to support it, but making it ask if it is allowed locks out everyone on other carriers
@JasonSalaz Like they can't already? It's how they enable iMessages on your phone (I believe). I just can't believe that they remove the option to use it.
@Jaberg It's not a useless choice tho, it's only useless because they make it useless by forcing official carriers to give a "yes" signal, when getting the same result by asking for a "no" signal would not cut out all the other carriers.
@JasonSalaz It's GiffGaff, which isn't relevant I think
And I am sure that iMessage on your iphone does send a verification text, sure I have read support threads about people with disssapearing text credits that have blamed it on turning imessage on and off.
Has anyone seen a workable way to proxy 3G data from an iOS device through a traffic measuring device to get a handle on what applications (or destinations) are taking up the 3G data for iPad / iPhone?
I have an iPhone which has suddenly (last two months) started going way over the 200mb data plan it was on. Prior to this it wasn't even close to the limits.
The only information the phone company (AT&T) gives me is the amounts, and the times (which from what I understand is just a billing ...
@TimothyMuellerHarder I'm looking for some very granular data - like 1.4 Mb to youtube on February 19th, 0.8 Gb to iCloud for the week, etc...
I have had times where bugs in mail syncing, and MobileMe / iCloud have chewed through 200 MB in a day for me - even with the phone not running and sitting on the charge stand, so yes - tracking apps is one aspect, but in many cases this isn't enough.
@JasonSalaz It will have to be a cellular data things since by definition all WiFi data is not being sent over 3G and subject to metering and charging.
@bmike I don't think you could do this over 3G -- there's no way to inspect the 3G packets, they're encrypted. Does it show the same data use patterns on a WiFi network? If so, I can propose a monitoring solution.
I am currently having to access the internet through a wireless dongle which is giving me a 2gb per month download allowance. I need to be really cautious about my internet usage.
Just this afternoon I ran out due to some process downloading 600mb of something. I have no idea what it was (althou...
