@bmike would you take a look at this quesion and let me know if you think it would fit on apple.se. If ok for your site, I'll migrate it. It is not really a blender issue, but a mac specific thing.
@David It might need a slight rewrite to focus more on the icon/thumbnail problem and less on Blender (at least if I correctly understood the issue), but it seems to be on-topic on AD. Whether it will get answers which are "better" than the one linked in the comments is another matter :-)
