5:00 PM
@Beofett I flagged this meta post because I believe it mentions the wrong user, but it hasn't been addressed yet. So I'm asking you here. Balanced Mama hasn't been around here for a while; I'm guessing another person should be mentioned?

5:17 PM
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun I put a note on your flag, actually (but who ever looks at those?)
Balanced Mama is the correct person in that post, afaik.
She was, until that post, still a moderator.
It's just that she... disappeared. She said she had some personal commitments that would tie her up for a month or so, but we haven't seen or heard from her since March.
I don't know if Tim ever heard anything from her, or just decided that it had been long enough.

Sad to see her disappear, she had a lot to offer the site and very informative answers!

As I see you peek in and out @TorbenGundtofte-Bruun - what do you think the right thing to do is when we have a new user who goes through and answers a ton of questions, who is not quite up to standards in almost any of them? @Beofett has handled a few flags and helped, but I feel like almost every answer needs commenting on - but on the other hand, it feels like piling on.
I feel odd no-actioning some of the answers that i'd really like to suggest more improvements on, but after 6 or 7 ...
(in the late answer queue)

8:57 PM
@Joe just be sure to be nice about it and explain how SE works
if someone can't handle polite constructive feedback on their posts, chances are good that this really isn't the place for them

Joe
Oh, I understand that
but saying roughly the same thing 15 times can be a problem, I figure

so I wouldn't worry about it being piling on
explain it once or twice and just mention that you are going through a bunch of their answers to help out
no need to explain why comments are ok every time

Joe
gotcha

mostly just make the suggestions or even just directly edit
if you know it won't alter the meaning

Joe
Yeah, I did that once or twice when it was just chatspeak/etc.
I still tend to worry about quite so much volume, though, especially since obviously they can't have taken my advice in the past
but perhaps as more people come to the site in the evening it will balance out some
(I tend to see our site as a bit more nights than days compared to say stackoverflow which is all days)

9:01 PM
@Joe oh, is this an ongoing issue as opposed to a sudden burst?

Joe
No, it's a sudden burst, one person who joined and answered like 15 questions

if they've had time to see your comments about quality and haven't responded and are continuing without any alteration, it might be something for one of the site mods to contact them about, depending on how bad it is

Joe
in like an hour
Beofett's been in and dealth with a couple of the worse issues

most people, when they find out there is a problem will either get angry and leave or will take it well and seek assistance once they know there are people that want to help

Joe
True
There was some back and forth on one of the answers (that I felt didn't answer the question), and some more positive thanks for feedback, so hopefully it's not too much :)

9:03 PM
it's only when they realize there is a problem but keep going without seeking help and basically act oblivious to the whole community that it's a major issue

Joe
Thanks!!

but it sounds like in this case, they just got a lot in before anyone could get their attention

Joe
Right - that's why I didn't want to make it out to be a big issue while at the same time...
yeah

which isn't a problem, just clean it up and let them know what's up

Joe
nice to see new activity though
we've had more activity the last week or two than we had in a while
(I think)

9:04 PM
yeah, I don't know, I come and go around parenting
I just had my first a month ago
so I check in, but thus far there aren't a whole lot of mysteries to it

Joe
aww

since he lays there, he poops, he eats, he sleeps, repeat

Joe
don't worry, you'll get to the mysteries soon enough ;)
those first few months are amazing, except for the whole not sleeping thing

yeah, but that's why I have my wife on FMLA from work
she helps baby, I sleep

Joe
lol
I helped 2 nights a week while my wife was off, as neither of my kids really slept almost at all
it was all good though, I just stayed up late and watched TV when they were asleep but it was my turn :)

9:07 PM
Declan is pretty good. He sleeps about 4 hours at a time

Joe
and i'm used to late nights, so
That's good for 1 month

he's hyper alert during the day though
and super curious about everything
and he doesn't like to sit still
heading home

Joe
cya
have fun!
