@KeshavSrinivasan In your answer of "Hiranyakshipu's ear rings", there is "Oh descendent of Raghu". How is Mahabali, descendent of Raghu?

2:19 AM
I got it. It is a narration. But when I read it for the first time, I thought from where did Rama come in between Bali and Ravana.

Happy Makar Sankranti
Tilgul ghya, goad goad bola" which literally means "Take Tilgul and talk sweetly".

@SwiftPushkar @Pandya Happy Makara Sankranti, Uttarayana, or as I would say Happy Pongal!
@SwiftPushkar @Pandya By the way, the Uttarayana day is when students would traditionally stop learning the Vedas. Every year students would start learning the Vedas in the Dakshinayana day in August (aka Avani Avittam) and stop at the Uttarayana day in January, and then they would take a break between January and August.

@KeshavSrinivasan - Yes , Happy Pongal to you ๐Ÿ˜Š

@KeshavSrinivasan Poแน…kal vฤแธปttu

@SreeCharan Oh, is that what you say in Telegu? In Tamil we say "Inniya Pongal Nalvazhthukal"

@KeshavSrinivasan No. I typed how to say happy pongal in tamil in google translate and I got that result. Seriously google needs some work.
@KeshavSrinivasan We say makara sankranthi subhakankshalu.

5:48 AM
@SreeCharan Mahabali is not a descendant of Raghu. This entire story is being narrated to Rama by Agastya. Agastya is addressing Rama as "descendant of Raghu."
@SreeCharan What does kankshalu mean?

@KeshavSrinivasan Got it. Yesterday I gave you a suggestion. Use it while writing interesting conversations(like nailbiting ) which creates more interest in readers.

@KeshavSrinivasan Subhakaankshalu = Subha + Aakanksha (lu) . Akaanksha means desire or wish or hope. Subha means good or auspicious.

@SreeCharan Yeah, I may separate things into separate lines like that in future.
@TheDestroyer Oh ok

@SreeCharan same to you.

5:53 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan I think they are of Sanskrit origin.

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan - Happy pongal and Makar Sakranti to you both๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒž

@SwiftPushkar We also have a similar thing here.

@SwiftPushkar same to you bro.

@TheDestroyer Yeah, Akanksha is a Sanskrit word: spokensanskrit.de/…

@KeshavSrinivasan yeah. Most of telugu is Sanskrit. Ending "lu' denotes plural. "Good wishes".

5:56 AM
@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan - ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

@SwiftPushkar what is "Tilgul"?

@SwiftPushkar In your recent answer you said "Experts say it is best to read Shreemad Bhagvat purana in 7 days". It would be better to add the reason too.

@SreeCharan @SwiftPushkar i think these rules don't apply these days anymore :P

@TheDestroyer เฐจเฑเฐตเฑเฐตเฑเฐฒ เฐ‰เฐ‚เฐก

@SreeCharan ok.

5:59 AM
We also play with kites in these 2-3 months ๐Ÿ˜€

@SwiftPushkar Yeah. Telangana and Hyderabadis also play with kites.

@TheDestroyer But people say while doing a parayana, celibacy, eating food once a day and sleeping on floor should be folllowed. We should follow as much as we can.
@TheDestroyer Why only hyderabadis and TS? don't you play?

@SreeCharan Yeah. Satvic way of life is good for concentration. But i think Homa not possible.

@SreeCharan - Yes , actually there are lot's of shlokas in both the puranas , so it is not possible to gives all of them , even shiva purana chapter is so much comprihensive.But i will add links to my answer so that everybody will be able to know all the rules๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

@SreeCharan Not much as you Guys.

6:04 AM
@SwiftPushkar OK but I only said to that particular statement.

@KeshavSrinivasan How Yavanas are greeks?
1
Q: Why are the Yavanas associated with the Greeks?

NaveenI keep hearing the claim that the Yavanas mentioned in Mahabharatha and Puranas are actually the Greeks. Is there any good reason to believe this? Does the scriptures give a description of the geography, culture, etc of the Yavanas that match with those of the Greeks? Is there any historical acco...

@SreeCharan - The explanation will be much lengthy , but i will try๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

@SwiftPushkar Short and simple: As shuka brahma narrated the bhagavat purana to Parikshit in seven days, it is recommended for us too.

@SreeCharan Google translate translated "เฐธเฐ‚เฐ•เฑเฐฐเฐพเฐ‚เฐคเฐฟ" as wallpapers. lol..

@SreeCharan - Yes , ๐Ÿ˜€ nice explanation ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

6:16 AM
@TheDestroyer LOL

@SreeCharan Also, translate "Amazon" to Telugu. You will be shocked.

@TheDestroyer What!!!!! Who translates these kind of stupid translations??!!!!

@Tezz I just posted a question about Kumarila Bhatta's reincarnation theory:
0
Q: Where does Kumarila Bhatta say souls are always reborn into the same species?

Keshav SrinivasanThe term "Shaivite" is overused nowadays. For instance, Iyer Brahmins are often called Shaivites, but they're actually followers of Adi Shankaracharya's Smartha sect (which I discuss here and here), and simply adopt Shiva as their Ishta Devata. True philosophical Shaivism is relatively rare nowad...

@TheDestroyer The explanation that's usually given is that the Sanskrit word Yavana is cognate to the word "Ionian".

@KeshavSrinivasan Do you always type the first paragraph in the question or simply copy paste from other questions? :P

@SreeCharan Haha. Don't know. It says "Baahubali". I think one possible reason is Amazons are ancient female warriors. So, it could be translated as "baahubali".

6:22 AM
@SreeCharan I copy and paste it.
@SreeCharan Which reminds me, I need to put in the links for the first paragraph.

@KeshavSrinivasan Whole History of world should be rewritten.

@TheDestroyer - I think indianscriptures is still not working. BTW , we will compile the index of the puranas , from that ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ“„

@TheDestroyer Yes, Western historians don't take the information given in Hindu scripture seriously enough.

@SwiftPushkar i have index for all of them but bit lazy to append them.

@TheDestroyer -๐Ÿ˜€ ok ...

6:31 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan They believe Hindu Scriptures as myths and consider themselves as superior. Also, BBC always potrays negative side of East especially China and India to their show their audience West is superior or better.

@TheDestroyer - by the way , have u updated your answer with defination i have given to u , are those ok ? Was collecting those from various sources , so haven't checked some of them(except from puranas)

@SreeCharan It looks for me this answer is spam (Advertising).

6:41 AM
Should i need to upadate my prasadam answer with quotes from puranas?

@TheDestroyer I did it. What about prasad answer? shouldn't we give some time to her?

@SreeCharan Nidhi is fake name i think, to attract attention. She/He won't register.

@KeshavSrinivasan 2 flags pending from my side .
@Sakthi Inniya Pongal Nalvazhthukal

@KeshavSrinivasan What is meaning of Pongal?
word "pongal"

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok... I think Purva Mimamsa school only doubts on it.. as the passage says "Most of the schools are also agreed on this point, and why should you alone have doubts about it?"

6:56 AM
@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan @SreeCharan - Pandharpur Vitthal murti is dressed with shawl and ear covering , for winter , he too experiencing Cold ๐Ÿ˜€ , photo from local news paper

@SwiftPushkar Krishna really stays inside idol. So, we should take care of him. ๐Ÿ˜€
@Tezz i OCRed Maheswara Khanda of Skanda Purana.

@TheDestroyer Oh nice... so it is scannable in both Devanagari and English... ?

@TheDestroyer - Yes , very true ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

@Tezz No. Only Devanagari searchable.

@TheDestroyer Oh... how much MB is that..?

7:08 AM
@Tezz i actually saved them as .rtf . This format retains all information properly as script is Devanagari. It's roughly 30- 40 MB. I need to join all the files and also document needs to be edited for better reading.

@TheDestroyer Ok... mail me when you prepare it...

@Tezz ok. Did you download those puranas?

@TheDestroyer yes.. I have downloaded... Garuda Purana is yet remaining...

@Tezz ok. Indianscriptures removed all their content. So, Nagara, Prabhasa and Ambika Khanda missing.

@TheDestroyer oh.. why did they removed... ?..

7:14 AM
@TheDestroyer - have you found alternate link to puranas , pls. also mail me that and purans text searchable files also :)

@Tezz Don't know. Me and Pandya mailed them regarding copyright status. Their statements are ambiguous. They blocked access to those pdfs but if you know URLs of PDFs, it works.
Like this link.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok...

@TheDestroyer - can we link our google drive in links in answers , if yes pls. do tell me how to?

@SwiftPushkar I think you don't need to link those files. just mention Adyaya number, Khanda number . I think Translations are copyrighted. They may ask us to remove files.

@TheDestroyer I think upto now I haven't linked any of my answers to indianscriptures.com...

7:22 AM
@Tezz Yeah. It's fine if we mention exact verse location.

@TheDestroyer - ok , yes , will do the same :) i was not aware about this , anyway thanks , alternately we can translate those shlokas ourselves:)

@SwiftPushkar I'm not sure about copyright status of translations.

@TheDestroyer - wht do you think abt vedbase , is it ok to provide links form that site ?

@SwiftPushkar Yeah. Vedabase is fine. But Indianscriptures themselves are not sure. They say public domain texts and also say not to copy.

@TheDestroyer - ok , but we can do one thing , we can mention their name in our answers and can acknowledge respective author , site and publisher also , but not sure abt this , in this way we will also advertise site and all here so both our and their job will get done :)

1 hour later…
8:39 AM
@TheDestroyer The holiday Pongal is named after the food item pongal.
@Tezz Haha yeah, the Purva Mimamsa school tends to have really strange beliefs on a lot of things.

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh. We also call that food item as "pongal".

@TheDestroyer @Tezz @Pandya @SreeCharan @KeshavSrinivasan - What about focusing our attention on cleaning of pending unanswered questions? Active User's can sort out possible unanswered questions individually and every user will give answer's to those.I have identified 4-5 unanswered q.and already started to write one answer.
Can we raise this issue in meta as general discussion ,so that everybody will come to know abt.this.this will increase the % very rapidly and we can approach towards graduation speedily, as new questions being asked everyday ..
Also we can edit the long pending Questions Where op is not active or seen since long time ,and somehow make them answerable.

@SwiftPushkar just tried to revise that meta question:

Q: About concentrating on percent answered questions

PandyaOur community/site is growing fine but it requires some attention to unanswered questions. From Area51.SE, our site shows 72% answered (1029 questions with no answers) so it needs considerable work: Also visiting the list of all sites according to percent answered criteria gives an idea abou...

Just achieved protect-questions privileges!

@SwiftPushkar Why did you replace Hanuman with Hanumana in the "shot by arrow" question?
@Pandya Congrats!!!!

@SreeCharan Thanks!

@SwiftPushkar Good idea. But changing the content of the question just for answering is not good I think.
@KrishnShweta Happy Makara sankranti!!!

@SreeCharan - Hanumana word looks like adressing him with some respect ,where hanuman is more suitable in verbal discussions , so on Religious site like this we should adress deties with respect , because if we Don't , others will follow that pattern๐Ÿ˜Š

4:29 PM
@SreeCharan Happy Makara sankranti to you too.

@SreeCharan - I don't do that , which question are you talking abt.hanumana ome?

Also we can edit the long pending Questions Where op is not active or seen since long time ,and somehow make them answerable.
@SwiftPushkar above. I didn't get what you said.

@SreeCharan - oh ok , but only in case of OP is not seen or logged in since some time i.e. abandoned questions . So abandoned questions we can edit to make them answerable I think @Pandya @KeshavSrinivasan knows more abt this ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
@KrishnShweta - Aap ko Makar Sankranti ki Hardik Shubha Kaamnayen ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘

@SwiftPushkar Dhanyavaad aur aapko bhi.

@SwiftPushkar I'll talk tomorrow. Good-bye!

Is OP asking about numbers in Sanskrit like this:

@Pandya - ok , GN ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒ›
@KrishnShweta - The OP wants the defination of numbers mentioned in scriptures , i.e. what is zero , what is one etc.

@KrishnShweta No. See my answer. He said not that one. He should edit the title too. But he made it some what clear. He needs a shloka from scriptures which explains significance of numbers.
Today was my 51st post.

@SwiftPushkar Oh OK..
@SreeCharan Yeah... seen your answer.

@SreeCharan yeah. Today read till 2nd chapter 13 shlokas.

@KrishnShweta - Yes , but after say 2000 point's user's loose interest in much of the activity , IMO , so they just visit in 1 or 2 day's but remain inactive in votes or comment's or in actual answering ...

@KrishnShweta Good going. Keep it up. Better than me. Didn't read BG.

5:12 PM

@SwiftPushkar @KrishnShweta Do you know among frequent visitors of this room, I am the only one who has not earned a gold badge.

@KrishnShweta - My personal exp. โžก The day i reached 2000 , i lost interest in earning reputation , and started to give proper answers , uptill that time i also downloaded some books , so it takes some time ,to give good answers,

@SreeCharan btw, me too..

@KrishnShweta Still I have to wait 36 days for that. You have a gold badge on electronics.SE

@SwiftPushkar Oh OK
@SreeCharan Yeah.

5:19 PM
@KrishnShweta - but as one goes to trusted user once responsibility also increases , that mean ,while making comments , answers, voting in reviews etc.

@SwiftPushkar Do you follow any tags? I mean what are ur fav. tags?

@SreeCharan - i do not follow as such , but in fact tags follow me๐Ÿ˜€ , scriptures , Ramayana , vedas

@SwiftPushkar Okay.

@SwiftPushkar HaHa.. It seemed like a telugu movie dialogue.
@SwiftPushkar But when you follow some tags of your interest, it gets easier to find unanswered questions.

@SreeCharan - Yes , certainly ๐Ÿ‘ and oh yes , puranasโžก My fav.๐Ÿ˜€
@SreeCharan - Do you know anything abt .importance of puranas in hinduism or role of them in moulding societies etc

5:30 PM
@SwiftPushkar No. Sorry. They increase the devotion of people towards God. I know that much. Go ahead. Good idea.But frame it properly because some may mistake question as opinion based.
