Q: Mods have diamonds, why?

Kaz WolfeWe all know that moderators can be recognized anywhere (except chat) by their diamond (♦︎︎︎) symbol by their screen name. What was the design choice behind using the diamond, as opposed to something else, like the FontAwesome shield, like in Discourse? Or [M] like Reddit? Or a differently-color...

1 hour later…
4:01 AM
Good morning @Tezz...

@SreeCharan Good Morning...😀

What do you think about diamonds with mods @Tezz ?

@SreeCharan they might have bought 😀😀

@Tezz Ha ha...

@SreeCharan btw why are you interested in it.... It is not related to cessation of sufferings...(Buddha)... neither it is related to curiosity of Brahman (Brahma Sutra)... haha..😀😀

4:13 AM
@Tezz I was carried away by maya.... 😀

@SreeCharan haha lol...
@Pandya "How can one ask for Moksha of things? and How can insentient matter get Moksha?
@TheDestroyer Btw, you may be agree that Moksha can be attained by only who is in bondage....
Mukti and Bandhan are related thing and can't exist alone!
@TheDestroyer I mean if there is a Mukti then there must be a Bandhan and if there is a Bandhan then there must be a Mukti. (I mean philosophy of Mukti and Bandhana). What do you think?"
@Pandya yes, exactly Mukti is for those which are in Bandhan... but non living things like stone, pillar are also in the Bandhan of certain things like Bandhan of Panchamahabhuta... Bandhan of Nãma Rupa (Name form)...
@Pandya for instance 24 tatwas of Prakriti are considered bond by Shiva Purana "निबध्नाति पशूनेकश्चतुर्विंशतिपाशकैः ।।" in 24 tatwas 5 Mahabhuta also come... so it means that Non Living things are also in Bandhan...
@Pandya @TheDestroyer furthermore it is proved by this statement of Shiva Purana (which I discuss here hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/16594/…):
ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्यन्तान् पशून्बध्वा माहेश्वरः ।। Lord Mahesvara captivates them all, right from Brahma to a pillar.
@Pandya @TheDestroyer so it means that Non Living things like pillars are also in Bondage... Thus there is also Mukti for them 😀😀
@Pandya haha... I find Iskcon funny...😀😀
@TheDestroyer No, I don't know any such boon given by Lord Shiva to Aghoras... In one Aadalat case "case of Aghori" shown in Sony (KD Pathak)... one Aghori used to repeat... they occur no sin if they kill 7 humans... but in case of 8 humans they will be punished... haha... I'm not sure if it is written in some scriptures...

4:53 AM
@Tezz I'm reading your Q/A which is long! Can you directly give me reference for Bandhan & Mukti of Jad/achitt (insentient)?

@Tezz There's a Tamil movie (I'm God - Aham Brahmasmi) which shows Aghoras have power to release any people from Maya by killing. This movie has that song "Sivoham" (which chants Rudra multiple times). Movie says Iswara (Shiva) gave the boon to Aghoras. It's quiet common belief too.

@TheDestroyer @Pandya @SreeCharan - नमस्कारं , शुभ दिनं 🌞🌸💐😊🍬🍫

@Tezz But where do "achit" things fall in cycle of rebirth? I don't know any stories of people getting born as rocks or stones.
@SwiftPushkar Shubodayam / Subhamadyanam. :P

@SwiftPushkar नमस्कारम् ।
@Tezz Haha
Btw, which would be suitable Sanskrit word for "Haha" !

@SwiftPushkar नमस्कार शुभोदय

4:59 AM
@Pandya i think haha is same in all languages.

@TheDestroyer - Can we give the answer to selection & abt .original of Rudraksha question , based on visual description given in Shiva-purana , and can say in answer that , the identifying process has to be done by experts only.And can quote some of the visual characteristics description given in purana.So as to clear out those 2 questions😊

Q: Confirming Original Rudraksh Bead

MongrelI haven't purchased Rudraksh Bead ever, but before purchasing the Rudraksh Bead, I would like to understand how to recognized its real one. While purchasing the Bead Can I ask them for certificate which is tested Before wearing should I check if it suits me.

@TheDestroyer It is actually accent! हाहा!

@SwiftPushkar yeah i can give answer .But still people should select rudraksha based on Kundali. Also, i don't think those rules are applicable now.

3
Q: What Are The Rules For Wearing Rudraksh Bead

MongrelI want to wear the Rudraksh Bead, but have some query related to the rules. So please let me know the exact rules for it.

I thought it would be closed as personal opinion based question.

5:01 AM
@TheDestroyer - At least i /you can answer rules question⬆, those are in shiva purana page 158 ..
श्वेतरक्ता: पितकृष्णा वर्णाज्ञेया: क्रमाद्बुधै।<br>
स्वजातियं नृभिर्रर्धाय रुद्राक्षम वर्णता क्रमात:॥12॥<br>

The learned people should know about their shades as well.T hey are of White ,Red, as well as of Black Colors.The people should wear them according to their Varnas.

@TheDestroyer The way he asked the question looks like a primarily opinionion based. I posted a comment there too. He should be specific on "suiting".

@SwiftPushkar It's also there in Rudrakshajabala Upanishad. Also, in Skanda Purana Maheshwara Khanda i think.

@TheDestroyer - 😊, yes ,read your comment 👍👍

@SwiftPushkar If you watch devotional channels in our state, you will become an expert on rudraksh, numerology, astrology etc., ;P

@SwiftPushkar do you answer that question?

5:06 AM
@SreeCharan - oh ,ok ,I really don't know about them , haven't purchased or wore them before , but i will watch them , I think its Bhakti channel u r talking abt.but the language is problem , can't understand wht they are saying..😊

@SwiftPushkar How do you know about bhakthi channel?

@TheDestroyer - Yes , I will , but i haven't yet , still have to write sanskrit verses, but if u like ,u can ,anyone from us 😊
@SreeCharan - From @TheDestroyer 😀 he always link some videos in chat 👍👍👍

@SwiftPushkar My mind says you will learn telugu soon.
@SwiftPushkar Why only one, both can answer. It also helps the answer ratio too.

@SreeCharan - haha , yes love to bro👍👍👍abt learning Telugu
@SreeCharan - but the answer will be same ...

@SwiftPushkar Understood it. no need to edit again and again.😊

5:11 AM
@SwiftPushkar ok. I will answer it with big DISCLAIMER. haha.

@TheDestroyer - yeah , disclamimer is must like -Its bit difficult to identify original Rudraksha from non-original one , unless one himself knows something about it.So it's always safe to take the help of person who is expert in identifying the original one

Their are some visual indications given about the Rudraksha in Shiva-Maha purana.Though they do not directly talk about How to identify original Rudraksha, but provides some clues about good Rudraksha.So at least we get some basic idea about the Size ,Shape ,properties which could be supportive in identifying the original one.
@TheDestroyer - I prepared that ⬆⬆😀

@SwiftPushkar post it. I have some work now. i will post later.

@TheDestroyer -No u pls.wtite the answer in time , it doesn't matter ..😊 you ⬅📝

5:38 AM
@SreeCharan - Have u seen the quiz answer 📃

@SwiftPushkar Yes I have seen that. I don't know before that Lord Vishnu slept during samudra manthan.

@SreeCharan - Yes , he took , Yog-Nidra for some time ,during Samudra Manthan 😊

6:08 AM
Btw, While visiting some unanswered questions on (in hope of trying to answer if any), I found Keshav Srinivasan Effect and I think only Mimansak & Acharya can answer some questions! Haha /cc @Tezz
@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, I've introduced a tag for Vedanta-Desika which you may find useful!

6:51 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan in BG verse 9.4 and 9.5 Krishna said, in reality I don't dwell in them. /cc @Tezz
I found, Ramanujacharya interpreted:
> ‘I am not in them,’ namely, I do not ‘depend’ on them for My existence
@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan ^^
@KeshavSrinivasan I can't understand why Ramanujacharya interpreted in that way! /cc @Tezz
Here is Gitapress interpretation:
> Myself in reality dwell not in those beings.

7:07 AM
@KrishnShweta - Hi ,మీరు ఎలా ఉన్నారు

@SwiftPushkar Hello...

A: Is Swaminarayan an incarnation of any God?

YoginWell, actually, if you were swaminarayan(like me) you would know that we don't thing of swaminarayan bhagwan, but as sarvopari bhagwan. In other words the one and only god. We think of him as superior god, and not a preacher. Don't believe me, here's proof:. Can you see the face, if not, concentr...

Did anyone see face?

7:17 AM
@Tezz the reason might be a little argument between he and one old silly man

@TheDestroyer haha... I don't see any face...😀😀

@TheDestroyer I was staring at that pic but couldn't see.

@Pandya Haha, Mimamsakas don't even exist anymore, so if that's what required they'll never be answered!

@Tezz even i tried hard but couldnt see any face. But Chandra Deva would feel happy 😁😁

@Pandya What Ramanujacharya is saying is that "X abides in Y" doesn't refer to physical location, instead it means "X rests in Y" or "X is sustained by Y". So the Jivas are sustained by Sriman Narayana, but Sriman Narayana is not sustained by Jivas.

7:26 AM
@TheDestroyer @Tezz He is only trolling us...

@TheDestroyer I think in ancient India, what we call the "man in the moon" was thought of as "the rabbit on the moon". It wasn't thought to be a human face at all.

@KeshavSrinivasan i think this is Pareidolia. Even there are reports that "Buddha" was found on Mars.

@KrishnShweta - Oh , ok ,is he deleted his account , and anyway don't worry you still can visit Netherlands if you join any company from that country ,as a trainee 🇱🇺

@TheDestroyer I tend to think that in a deep sense, things like pareidolia and apophenia are attempts to pathologize valid insights into reality. I think that there is a reason for all apparent connections and patterns, even if they seem like random coincidences.
@TheDestroyer I think there is a reason why the pattern on the moon looks like a rabbit. Maybe some story in Hindu scripture connects Chandra with rabbits.
@TheDestroyer But yes, I'm skeptical of Buddha on Mars and Swaminarayan on the Moon.

7:46 AM
@TheDestroyer Ha Ha 😂😂

@Pandya Thanks, I just tagged a bunch of questions with the vedanta-desika tag. By the way, I just created a Purva Mimamsa tag. Until now I was using the Vedanta tag for Purva Mimamsa questions, because I initially thought there wouldn't be that enough Purva Mimamsa questions on the site to merit a tag. But it turns out that some pesky guy named Keshav Srinivasan keeps posting questions about it :-)

@SwiftPushkar that's impossible. I can't visit and Talk to you later.

@TheDestroyer That's interesting, because Kumarila Bhatta describes a group of people called "Samsaramochakas" who would go around killing people in the name of granting people Moksha. But I think the Samsaramochakas he describes were Nastikas, so they may not be the same as Aghoris.

8:16 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan could be. Everything is possible in Maya.
@KeshavSrinivasan Aghoras feel themselves as Kala Bhaiaravas. They with their yogic power sees the fate on forehead and provide Moksha if necessary.
@KeshavSrinivasan for this question, Shiva Purana has answer
1
Q: What sect believes in an Ishwara-stream with a different Ishwara in every age?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, the Isha Upanishad has a special property that other Upanishads don't: it's part of the actual Samhitas of the Vedas, i.e. the part of the Vedas whose verses were heard directly from the gods. (It's the 40th Adyaya of the Shukla Yajur Veda Samhita.) So while other U...

A: Why did Vyasa depict different Supreme Gods in different Puranas?

The DestroyerShiva Purana says that Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra (Trimurti) rivaled one another and they propitiated the Supreme Lord (their father) and they got a boon of creating others at outset of various Kalpas. So, in one Kalpa, Vishnu creates Rudra and Brahma and in another Kalpa Rudra creates Brahma and V...

@TheDestroyer Btw, just protected that question seeing many replies from new-users.

@KeshavSrinivasan Also, there need not be multiples Iswara "sect". He is just explaning what if multiple Iswaras exist.
But Shiva Purana explanation is different. It says Supreme Lord creates, preserves and destroys the cosmos through each "trimurti" in different (Maha)kalpas.

@TheDestroyer I think it is a specific sect, because I think the same sect is described by the Shaiva Siddhanta philosopher Bhatta Ramakantha in his Paramoksha Nirasa Karika Vritti:

@KeshavSrinivasan BTW, i think Swami Vivekananda also says the same that there must be no multiple Supreme Gods.

@TheDestroyer This sect apparently believed that each liberated soul gets to be the Ishwara for some time, until another soul attains Moksha, whereupon the old soul gives up the position and the other soul becomes the new Ishwara. This is in contrast to the view of the Vedanta school, which says that liberated souls have all powers except creation, preservation, and destruction.

8:31 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan - What is the meaning of "Vyooha Vasudeva" term , is it same as " Para-Vasudeva" ? & Wht.is meaning of Vyooha , i have seen this word many times here , but don't know much abt.the concept 😊

@KeshavSrinivasan Does Vedanta school have any Pramana for the statement "liberated souls don't have powers of creation, preservation and destruction"?

@TheDestroyer Yes, see Adhayaya 4 Pada 4 of the Brahma Sutras.

@KeshavSrinivasan This view is crap. Then what's use of Moksha? what happens to old soul after new soul takes position of Iswara?
@KeshavSrinivasan Thanks! I will see.

@TheDestroyer The old soul goes into a state of eternal rest and "indifference", haha.

@KeshavSrinivasan Are they Dvaitins?

8:35 AM
@SwiftPushkar Vyuha Vasudeva and Para Vasudeva are different. I discuss the Vyuha forms in my answer here:

A: Is there any scripture that tells story about Lord Vishnu and MahaVishnu?

Keshav SrinivasanFirst of all, yes, there is a notion of a greater Vishnu and a lesser Vishnu. This concept is expressed in simplest terms in this chapter of the Vishnu Purana: Affecting then the quality of activity, Hari, the lord of all, himself becoming Brahmá, engaged in the creation of the universe. Vis...

@TheDestroyer I think he mean encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/…

@Pandya Is this pic real?

@TheDestroyer I'm not sure about that.

@TheDestroyer Don't know!

@KeshavSrinivasan In the above question of "ISHA", how he refutes that Isha doesn't represent Shiva?

8:40 AM
@TheDestroyer By the way, the Shaiva Siddhanta work the Paramoksha Nirasa Karika discusses a lot of other strange sects as well. Like did you know that there used to be a Shaivite sect that thought Jivas are superior to Shiva?

@KeshavSrinivasan As they say, soul is different from Iswara, they must be dvaitins ( at highest level).
@KeshavSrinivasan haha. Then they should be considered as "Jeevaite" rather than "Shaivite".

@TheDestroyer btw, if you ask my personal opinion, then Pramukh Swami's face (of his last time) was looking (i.e imagining) in full moon that day to me also. But I don't blindly believe that was miracle as you know such things can be imagined as you wish!

@Pandya ohh.. who was that Pramukha Swami?

And btw, I'm not follower of Swaminarayana Sampradaya:
in Hinduism, May 23 '16 at 10:24, by Pandya
@ParthTrivedi I do not deeply know about it (not a follower of Swaminarayana Sampradaya) I've just linked the Wikipedia page that have basic information about it. You can add answer yourself after reading/researching on it. Also visit : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaminarayan_Sampraday

@TheDestroyer Vedanta Desikan addresses the identity of Isha in his commentary on the first version of the Isha Upanishad. You can read his Isha Upanishad Bhashya here: gdurl.com/zZZt/download

8:43 AM
Pramukh Swami Maharaj (born Shantilal Patel; ordained Shastri Narayanswarupdas; 7 December 1921 – 13 August 2016) was the guru and Pramukh, or president, of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, an international Hindu socio-spiritual organization. BAPS regards him as the fifth spiritual successor of Swaminarayan, following Gunatitanand Swami, Bhagatji Maharaj, Shastriji Maharaj, and Yogiji Maharaj. He was believed by his followers to be in constant communion with Swaminarayan, and ontologically, the manifestation of Akshar, the eternal abode of Swaminarayan. Pramukh Swami Maharaj received initiation as...

@Pandya Ohh.. his name was Pramukh swami. i thought well known swami. Ok.

@TheDestroyer Haha yeah. By the way, their reasoning was that once Jivas get Moksha, they never have to do any work, whereas Shiva has to do the work of creation, preservation, and destruction forever, so liberated souls are in a superior state compared to the state that Shiva is in.

@KeshavSrinivasan It's sounds funny. How do they become superior?

@KeshavSrinivasan btw, from your comment I knew that Swaminarayana is related to Sri Samprasaya! I didn't know it.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha.
@KeshavSrinivasan I read commentary. He applied some rules of Grammar and more importantly he cherrypicked verses.

8:52 AM
@Pandya Yes, Swaminarayan's guru claimed that he received initiation from Ramanujacharya in a dream. That's why Swaminarayan and his followers considered themselves part of the Sri Sampradayam.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok. Can you provide me relevant source like quote or video...?

9:42 AM
@Pandya See my question here:

Q: Have any Swaminarayan commentaries on the Brahma Sutras been translated into English?

Keshav SrinivasanVishnu is said to have taught the principles of Vaishnavism to four disciples: Lakshmi, Brahma, Shiva and Sanatkumara. And in turn they started the four main Sampradayas or traditions of Vaishnavism: Sri Sampradayam, Brahma Sampradayam, Rudra Sampradayam, and Kumara Sampradayam. Now the Sri Samp...

10:14 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan I had visited that question. Actually I'm looking to the source/reference to:
> Swamninarayan was a disciple of Ramanand Swami, who claims to have received initiation from the Sri Vaishnava Acharya Ramanujacharya in a dream, which is why the Swaminarayan sect considers itself part of the Sri Sampradayam.
Btw, for:
> First there's Muktanand Swami's Brahma Sutra Bhashya Ratnam, which you can read here in Sanskrit and Gujarati.
@KeshavSrinivasan ^^ I can help you by translating Gujarati into English if you need to study any Sutra!
Though I've not downloaded swaminarayangadi.com/publications/eBooks/… yet.

6 hours later…
3:53 PM
@Pandya Here: swaminarayanwales.org.uk/?ID=Guru_Mantra "Guru mantra was given to Ramanand swami by Ramanujacharya in his dream at Shreerangkshetra. He knew this dream was true as in the dream Ramanujacharaya had marked swamijis body with gopichandan. When swamiji woke up the gopichandan was present on his body."
@Pandya And look at this:
@Pandya That's from this book: books.google.com/…
@Pandya By the way, I know of six Vedantic philosophies which have the name "Visistadvaita": the standard Visistadvaita philosophy of Ramanujacharya, the Panchatattva Visistadvaita philosophy of Swaminarayan, the Lakshmi Visistadvaita philosophy of the Vaikhanasa sect, the Shiva Visistadvaita philosophy of the Shaiva Siddanta sect, the Shakti Visistadvaita philosophy of the Lingayat sect, and the Visistadvaita philosophy of the Ramanandi sect.
@Pandya Out of these I know absolutely nothing about Lakshmi Visistadvaita and the Ramanandi version of Visistadvaita.
@Pandya Thanks, I'll think about what Sutras are likely to be different in the Swaminarayan commentary compared to Ramanujacharya's Sri Bhashya.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes, I see.. Was Ramananda Swami a guru of Sahjananda Swami?

@Pandya Who is Sahajananda Swami?

@KeshavSrinivasan I think they should be similar as all are Vishishtadvaita right?
Swaminarayan (IAST: Svāmīnārāyaṇa, 3 April 1781 – 1 June 1830), also known as Sahajanand Swami, is the central figure in a modern branch of Hinduism known as Swaminarayan Hinduism. He is believed by followers as a manifestation of God. Swaminarayan was born Ghanshyam Pande in Chhapaiya, Uttar Pradesh, India in 1781. In 1792, he began a seven-year pilgrimage across India at the age of 11 years, adopting the name Nilkanth Varni. During this journey, he did welfare activities and after 9 years and 11 months of this journey, he settled in the state of Gujarat around 1799. In 1800, he was initiated...

@Pandya Yes, Ramanand Swami was the guru of Swaminarayan.
@Pandya By the way, Swaminarayan's guru Ramanand Swami should not be confused with Ramananda, the founder of the Ramanandi sect.

4:09 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan ok.

@Pandya Speaking of which, did you know that the Ramanandi sect also considers themselves part of the Sri Sampradayam?

@KeshavSrinivasan now, things looks clear to me: Swami Ramanand is the Guru of Swaminarayan and he adopted Vishitadvaita of Ramanujacharya. So, Swaminarayana is related to (or part of) Sri Vaishnava. Thanks!
@KeshavSrinivasan no, actually I've only heard about Ramanandi, don't know much about Ramanandi...

@Pandya Yes, at least I can attest that Swaminarayan's Panchatattva Visistadvaita and the Shaiva Siddhanta sect's Shiva Visistadvaita are similar to Ramanujacharya's Visistadvaita. The Lingayat sect's Shakti Visistadvaita is very different from Ramanujacharya's philosophy though.

I'm just reading:
The Ramanandi (IAST Rāmānandī), also known as the Ramayats or the Ramavats (IAST Rāmāvat), are a branch of the Vaishnava Sri Sampradaya of Hinduism. == Denomination == The Ramanandi Sampradaya is one of the largest and most egalitarian Hindu sects India, around the Ganges Plain, and Nepal today. It mainly emphasizes the worship of Rama, as well as Vishnu directly and other incarnations. While considered Vaiṣṇava, the Ramanandi are the largest ascetic group that celebrates the Śivarātri festival, which is dedicated to Shiva. Rāmānandī ascetics rely upon meditation and strict ascetic practices, but...

@Pandya I discuss the Ramanandi sect here:
2
Q: Have any Ramanandi commentaries on the Brahma Sutras been translated into English?

Keshav SrinivasanAs, I discuss in this question, Vishnu is said to have taught the principles of Vaishnavism to four gods: Lakshmi, Brahma, Shiva and Sanatkumara. And they in turn started the four main Sampradayas or traditions of Vaishnavism: Sri Sampradayam, Brahma Sampradayam, Rudra Sampradayam, and Kumara Sam...

4:14 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan And Ramanujacharya's Vishishtadvaita is the original/main. Am I right?

@Pandya Yes, Swaminarayan's guru Ramanand Swami was a huge fan of Ramanujacharya's Sri Bhashya. And the Srikantha Bhashya, which is the Shiva Visistadvaita commentary on the Brahma Sutras, copies a lot from the Sri Bhashya.
@Pandya By the way, Tulsidas and Kabir were both members of the Ramanandi sect. The Ramanandi sect believes Rama is the supreme god and Vishnu is an incarnation of Rama, just like the Gaudiya Vaishnava sect believes Krishna is the supreme god and Vishnu is an incarnation of Krishna.

@KeshavSrinivasan So, having tulsidas of Ramanandi sect means that Tulsidas believe in Vishiahtadvaita?

@Pandya Ramanandis also trace their Guru Parampara back to Ramanujacharya, which I'm planning to post a question about.
@Pandya Yes, Tulsidas believed in the Ramanandi version of Visistadvaita.
@Pandya It's interesting that the two most famous regional versions of the Ramayana were both written by people who believed in Visistadvaita: the Ramcharitmanas was written by the Ramanandi poet Tulsidas, and the Kamba Ramayana was written by the Sri Vaishnava poet Kamban.

@KeshavSrinivasan Is Ramanandi version of Vishishtadvaita similar to that of Ramanujacharya or different?

@Pandya Well, considering that they consider themselves to be in Ramanujacharya's Guru Parampara, and considering that they claim that Baudhayana's Vritti which Ramanujacharya relied upon in his writing was written from their point of view, I assume they'd be similar.

4:26 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan btw, I fear if current discussion somehow relates me also of Sri Sampradaya and hence Vishishtadvaita! (just jocking). Haha

@Pandya Haha
@Pandya But I haven't found any Ramanandi commentaries in English, so I can't find out what specific differences, if any, they have with Ramanujacharya's commentary. There are at least five Ramanandi commentaries on the Brahma Sutras, four of which have some kind of accusation of forgery surrounding them. See my question above.

@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, can we say every Vishishtadvaita Philosophy are similar in the sense of at least basic tents of Vishishtadvaita of Ramanujacharya (I mean relationship among Brahman, Jivatma and Jagat)?
@KeshavSrinivasan btw, I'm little surprised to see "Shiva Vishishtadvaita"!

@Pandya Yes, I assume most of them would agree on the basic issue of Brahman being the soul of the Jivatma and being both the efficient cause and the material cause of the Universe. Although that may not be true with the Lingayat philosophy of Shakti Visistadvaita, which is kind of a weird philosophy whose full name is actually "Dvaitadvaitabidhana Viseshadvaita".

@KeshavSrinivasan ok.

@Pandya Shiva Visistadvaita, aka Shiva Advaita, is the philosophy of the Shaiva Siddhanta philosopher Srikantha Shivacharya. It's very close to Ramanujacharya's philosophy except Vishnu is replaced by Shiva.

4:34 PM
@Pandya Why not? If it's true with vishnu, it should be true with Shiva also.

@KeshavSrinivasan Shiva Vishitadvaita = Shiva Advaita! strange, Is it Advaita or Vishishtadvaita?

@Pandya By the way, most Shaiva Siddhantins don't believe in Srikantha Shivacharya's philosophy. In fact most Shaiva Siddhantins reject the Brahma Sutras and the Vedanta school altogether.
@Pandya Despite the name Shiva Advaita, its beliefs are more like the beliefs of Visistadvaita.

@TheDestroyer Haha. I just thought that Vishishtadvaita should closely be related to Vaishnavism!
@KeshavSrinivasan oh! ok
@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, I think Sri Sampradaya is the most popular in Vaishnavism.

@Pandya Well, Brahma Sampradayam contains Madhvas and Gaudiya Vaishnavas, but yes Sri Vaishnavas outnumber Madhvas and Gaudiya Vaishnavas combined. (We don't even need to add the numbers of Swaminarayan people and Ramanandi people because they're comparatively tiny sects.)
@Pandya I think the order from most popular to least popular is probably Sri Sampradayam, Brahma Sampradayam, Rudra Sampradayam, and Kumara Sampradayam. Although Brahma Sampradayam and Rudra Sampradayam may need to be reversed, since there's a lot of followers of Vallabhacharya's Pushtimarga sect which belongs to the Rudra Sampradayam.
@Pandya And I've never met a single member of the Kumara Sampradayam in my life. I think Nimbarkacharya's sect (which belongs to Kumara Sampradayam) is much smaller than the sects associated with other Sampradayams.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok

4:47 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Which people belong to rudra and kumara sampradayam?

Btw, @TheDestroyer don't get worried:

@SreeCharan Followers of Vallabhacharya belong to Rudra Sampradayam, and followers of Nimbarkacharya belong to Kumara Sampradayam. Vallabhacharya believed in a philosophy called Shuddhadvaita (pure non-difference), Nimbarkacharya believed in a philosophy called Dvaitadvaita (difference and non-difference).
@Pandya Haha

@Pandya haha.

Is the vedanta only school with followers? @Keshav

@SreeCharan Almost all Hindus today belong to the Vedanta school, but there are a few that don't. A lot of philosophical Shaivites, including most members of the Shaiva Siddhanta sect, reject the Brahma Sutras and the Vedanta school.

4:56 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Did you get the ping when I only typed your first name?

@SreeCharan Yes, I did.

So what school do they subscribe to? @Keshav

@SreeCharan Most of them subscribe to Patanjali's Yoga school, with one small modification: whereas Patanjali's Yoga school believes that Prakriti turns into 24 different Tattvas, they think it turns into some other number of Tattvas, I think 37 or 39.

ok.

@SreeCharan The most prominent Tattvas that Shaiva Siddhantins believe in but the Yoga school doesn't believe in are Kala or time, and Mala, which is an impurity that they think surrounds the Jiva, kind of like Avidya.

5:02 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan When do words end with 'n' and with 'r'?

@KeshavSrinivasan Do/is-it-possible any follow Purva Mimansa and rejects Uttar Mimamsa?

@SreeCharan For more information on Mala, see Sadyojyoti's Tattvatraya Nirnaya.

@KeshavSrinivasan What is it?

Q: What percentage of Hindus belong to a sect that subscribes to the Vedanta school?

Keshav SrinivasanIndian schools of philosophy are traditionally divided into two categories, Astika and Nastika. Astika schools accept the authority of the Vedas as divinely revealed truth (shruti), whereas Nastika schools, like Buddhism, Jainism, and Charvaka, reject the authority of the Vedas. Generally membe...

@SreeCharan When you end a name with "an" it means you're referring to someone younger than you or someone you're calling with affection. When you end a name with an "ar" it means you're referring to someone older than you someone you're addressing with respect.

5:06 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Thought the same. Just a clarification. Because the other day, you said "Krishnar pathi pesu".

@SreeCharan So when Andal refers to Vishnu as Naranan, i.e. Narayanan, she's using the "an" affectionately.
@SreeCharan Yeah, so my uncle was referring to Krishna with respect.
@Pandya No, no one follows Purva Mimamsa anymore.

And also @KeshavSrinivasan Are there any people following saura sect as in panchayatanam?

@KeshavSrinivasan how can we be sure? (i.e how did we conclude it)
I'm just asking because I've not read Purva Mimamsa Sutra.

@Pandya Many people don't even know that there are 6 schools of philosophies. Even I don't know before visiting this site.

@SreeCharan I think we has much knowledge on KarmaKanda may know about Purva Mimamsa Sutra as it is mimansa of KarmaKanda I think.
@SreeCharan Congratulation! This site helped you to learn some basic & essential!

5:16 PM
@Pandya Thanks. Is that trolling?

@SreeCharan Yes, both philosophical Sauras exist, and Smarthas who adopt Surya as their Ishta Devata in the Panchayatana exist.

@SreeCharan ?

@Pandya Nothing... forget it.

@SreeCharan ok

@Pandya Not only basic but much more.

5:19 PM
@Pandya Well, I suppose we can't rule out some random guy somewhere declaring "I believe in Purva Mimamsa". But at least the traditional Purva Mimamsa Guru Paramparas have long ago died out.

@SreeCharan Yes,I think everyone who visit these site will surly learn much more than s/he knew before. (Swami and Acharya may be exception).
@KeshavSrinivasan oh! ok.
@KeshavSrinivasan yes, I know at the time of Adi Shankaracharya, Purva Mimansa had failed to answer some questions and Adi Shankaracharya explained with the help of Uttar Mimansa.

Your about section is blank @KeshavSrinivasan

I mean in chat. stackexchange. @Pandya.

@SreeCharan are you talking about chat?

5:25 PM
@Pandya Yes.

@SreeCharan oh! ok. yes
I've suggestion: "Sri Vaishnava moderator on Hinduism" /cc @KeshavSrinivasan Haha

@pandya I have updated it today. Mr.alien is also a vaishanva. Don't know exact sampradaya.

@Pandya Well, if I put an about section on Chat then I'd want to put something understandable to non-Hindus. They won't know what "Sri Vaishnava" means.
@SreeCharan He belongs to Vallabhacharya's sect.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok.

@KeshavSrinivasan Hmm... right.

5:30 PM
@Pandya @KeshavSrinivasan did you see my about section? what do you say?

@SreeCharan I don't know what it means.
@SreeCharan By the way, @KrishnShweta also belongs to Vallabhacharya's sect.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh!... That's why krishn before the name..ok.
@KeshavSrinivasan @KeshavSrinivasan Now?

@SreeCharan Oh, now I remember that line from the seventh book.

@SreeCharan Maya :P :P

@TheDestroyer :D No. it's magic..:P

5:39 PM
Btw, I think Vallabhacharya also known as "Maha Prabhuji"; one may confuse with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
@KrishnShweta where do you live?

@Pandya She lives in Hyderabad.

@TheDestroyer Will you explain this verse?
उपविते त्रयं धार्यं शिवभक्तिरतैर्नरै:|
शेषानृर्वरितान्पच्त्र सम्मितान धारयेत्कटो: ||30||

A Devotee of Shiva Should wear three beads in the yajnopavita and five in waist.

@SreeCharan what do you mean by explain?

ok. We've many active users from south viz. TheDestroyer, Ankit Sharma, KrisnShweta, SreeCharan, iammilind, (sv & Keshav has their roots)

Read RudrakshaJabala Upanishad.
@Pandya More users from Hyderabad. Sreecharan, Sv, Krishna Swetha. I'm not sure about moonstar2001 location but she is Telugu woman.

5:45 PM
@Pandya For a moment, I was laughing looking at ankit's name.

Mr.green is also from Hyderabad @Pandya

@Pandya Student is also a telugu speaking person.

@SreeCharan me too. Ankit should see that message . haha. @AnkitSharma
@SreeCharan He is from IIT Madras but telugu speaker.

I am from north

@TheDestroyer wow! I think you may have list.

5:48 PM
@Pandya Yes, I encountered that exact confusion in a Dwarakadish temple near my house a few months ago. On the walls I saw all these pictures of some guy sitting cross-legged at different sacred places in India. So we asked someone what all those pictures were about, and he said "These are pictures of Mahaprabhuji delivering lectures at 74 sacred places". And I asked "Who is Mahaprabhuji?" And the guy just responded "Mahaprabhuji is the person in the pictures."

Btw, SEDE query may not work all time.
@KeshavSrinivasan I think it should be 84 not 74.

@Pandya Finally I asked "Is it Vallabhacharya". And he said yes. And I said "Oh so this is a Pushtimargam temple". And then a lot of people in the temple said at once "Yes, Pushtimargam". Haha
@Pandya Yeah, maybe 84, I don't remember the exact number.

@KeshavSrinivasan Haha

@Pandya I think they were called Bethaks.

@TheDestroyer How do you wear rudraksha in upavita?

5:52 PM
@SreeCharan i don't know. May be shaivites do that.

@KeshavSrinivasan yes.

@Pandya Yes, in addition to Telugu people we also have a lot of Tamil people on the site: me, Sai, Surya, Parthasarathy Raghavan, Bharat, sakthi, etc.

It looks we've successfully promoted Hinduism.SE in South India!

@Pandya Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Did you hear from sakthi again about visistadvaita?

5:55 PM
@SreeCharan No, most recently we were talking about bull-fighting.

@Pandya I can't remember how I came here. I gave a blind shot about red and white stripes. It brought me till here.

@KeshavSrinivasan Do you have any access for google paid books?

@Pandya Ha ha...

@Pandya Speaking of which, I've long had the idea that we should make flyers to advertise the site. We can put them in temples and the like.

@Pandya I came to this site when my question was unanswered for long time on Quora.

5:58 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you know why Sai is not posting Q/A?

@Pandya Stackexchange has good reputation according to me when compared to Quora. So, posted here.

@TheDestroyer Well, not directly, but if you see any book that you want, tell me and there's a good chance I'll be able to find it for you.

@TheDestroyer Haha SE is obviously better than Quora!

@TheDestroyer Like remember I found Sri M's Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master when you and Tezz were unable to?

Going to sleep;
Good Bye!

6:00 PM
@Pandya Good night. Enjoy being merged with Brahman :-)

@KeshavSrinivasan Actually, i didn't check torrents as i previously couldn't find on torrents Sri M book.

@TheDestroyer In any case, is there some book you want?

@KeshavSrinivasan Nope. Not for me. Just wanted to help Sv for Kṛttivāsa Rāmāyaṇa,

@Pandya good night.

@KeshavSrinivasan I think volume 2 is available on Google books.

6:02 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan That's @TheDestroyer's line....

@TheDestroyer Oh, I actually have the Krittivasi Ramayan on my old computer. I was planning on posting an answer to sv.'s question, I've just been too lazy to access my old computer, haha

@SreeCharan - Pls.see my comment 😊👍

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh. that's good. But he posted answer for his own question.
4
Q: English translation of Krittivasi Ramayana

sv.Per Wikipedia: Krittivasi Ramayan or Krittibasi Ramayan or Sri Ram Panchali, composed by 15th century Bengali poet Krittibas Ojha, is a translation of the Ramayana into Bengali. Written in the traditional Ramayan Panchali form of Middle Bengali literature, the Krittivasi Ramayana is not ...

@TheDestroyer OK, but he didn't post an online link, so I may still post an answer.

@SwiftPushkar Did I wake you from the sleep? I think it is upavite with long "vi".

6:04 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan @SwiftPushkar @Pandya btw, we can still access PDFs of indianscriptures. They removed (http://)indianscriptures.com from source. We can add this and download their documents.
@KeshavSrinivasan Yes. You can post answer. Are they out of copyright?

@TheDestroyer Yes, I got it from DLI. But the new version of DLI doesn't have it, that's why I need to access my old computer.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok.

@TheDestroyer - oh , ok 👍👍😊

@TheDestroyer I think there are a lot of scanned books in the old version of DLI that they haven't converted to PDF yet.

Good night all. Good afternoon @KeshavSrinivasan.

6:08 PM
@SreeCharan Good afternoon for me, good night for you :-)

@KeshavSrinivasan I downloaded new java Applet to download DLI books. DLi site or Applet?

@TheDestroyer For instance there's a great book by S. Subba Rao, which gives the Advaita, Dvaita, and Visistadvaita commentary each verse of the Srimad Bhagavatam. But it's not on the new DLi site.

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh.ok

@TheDestroyer There was the old DLI site which had just scanned images of books, and you had to download a program called DLI Downloader which would convert those images to PDF. Then recently they changed the DLI site so that it's PDF-based, rather than image-based, so a lot of books that were on the old site are not on the new site because they haven't been converted form images to PDF.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. I know. DLI downloader is a Java Applet.

6:14 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer - GN /GD , will take your leave now 👍😊💐 TC ,BYE

@TheDestroyer DLI Downloader no longer works for me once they transitioned to the new site, so I'm not able to redownload the books that were on the old site.
@TheDestroyer Thankfully my old computer has a folder full of them.

@KeshavSrinivasan I actually downloaded new java Applet. but i don't know where i copied it.

@TheDestroyer Oh, then you may be able to get the Krittivasi Ramayan.

@KeshavSrinivasan Do you remember name of Subba rao's book?

4 hours later…
10:14 PM
@TheDestroyer I think it's just called Srimad Bhagavatam volume 1 and Srimad Bhgavatam volume 2.
