Do you guys know tafseer ibn kathir counts as source of authentic hadith? I mean, can I assume hadith's in tafseer ibn kathir are all sahih?

@yasar11732 I don't think you can assume straight off that a hadith is authentic, unless it is in or from the saheeh of Bukari or the saheeh of Muslim, as there is no doubt in the authenticity of the ahadeeth in the Sihah

there's apparently an "abridged" version of the Tafsir with only authentic hadiths.. the original contains a lot of weaker ones.

I see
so asking about if an hadith in tafsir is sahih makes sense

@yasar11732 yes it does make sense. Note that in in Tafseer Ibn Katheer, he mentions what the sanad of a hadith is at the end of it (for the most part that I know of), so the question can seek verification of it's authenticity or inauthenticity or even ask for the reason.

Q: Is this hadith regarding the wealth muslims are allowed to collect sahih?

yasar11732In tafseer ibn kathir, comments on following ayah includes an hadith which I would like to verify. Sahih International O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah . And those who hoar...

@yasar11732 a good question, +1
but I am sure what it's inclusion in Major collections (other then Bukari and Muslim) have to do with the authenticity of the hadeeth

I asked for its grade too

@yasar11732 when you say "Is this hadith included in any major hadith collections? If so, what is it's grade?" Ity would seem that an answer in regards to it's garde only matters if it is included in Major collections, I may be misunderstanding. I would suggest changing it to " What is the grade of the above hadeeth? and what collection can I find it in?" or something like that.

ok, done

i do wonder how useful variations are to such questions. that might actually be worth a meta discussion in its own right.

@goldPseudo What do you mean?

even if it's not the exact narration, it's quite common to find different narrations of the same event.
by a different companion, or through a different chain of narrators, or just covering a part of the event, etc.

I would argue variations are also useful :)

in this particular case: sunnah.com/urn/641030 doesn't technically answer the question
but is most likely of value.
(i've thrown it into the ring as a comment. basically, the question is whether it's enough to standalone as an answer)

hmm, it is like same event but taking place in another time/place
Additional question, do you guys know what is the mark at the beginning of they ayah stand for?
The one that looks like a star or flower

8:54 PM
@goldPseudo basically this is a (شاهد]) meaning that for instance if a hadeeth is Da'eef, then if there is another hadeeth you could look at the sanad and it may rise it up to Hasan (using it as support). There are about 39 to this hadith, as far as I know, and according to this list.

i wish i knew enough Arabic to appreciate that list. it looks like exactly the sort of thing i keep wishing i could find in English. :)

Chrome does a good job at translating it

@goldPseudo it would do me a great favour if there was such things in english, because I hate disappointing people by linking or referring to arabic things, I say for example this is useful they say wow, I say "but it is in arabic".

I have started to learn arabic, but it gets complicated real quick

what I am confused about is in the question, the narrator is Ali, but the Sahabee who narrated is either Thawban, and in another Umar, and in some the narrator Sahabee is unknown

9:28 PM
being confused is good. that means it's a good question ;)
well..either that, or a very bad one. but i'm leaning towards "good" here.

in the Arabic Tafseer Ibn Katheer he mentions the hadith narrated from a number of Sahabah, Ali, Ibn Abbas, and Umar
@goldPseudo it could be a good question, but I would rather finish searching for the answer so if there is a question, it could be higher quality
