Q: Has most peer-reviewed research on homeopathy given positive results?

user5194I was surprised by the following claim from NaturalNews: Most clinical research conducted on homeopathic medicines that has been published in peer-review journals have shown positive clinical results This goes against what I heard "It's always been found equivalent to placebo", so what's go...

Q: are unproven theories compatible with Islam?!!

Aminwhat can we do when facing some questions that are completely wrong! you might've read some questions comparing Islamic viewpoint with an unproven theory! wouldn't it be ridiculous to compare Islam with some theories which have not been proven to be right? this is one of them: Evolution and Isla...

@Mujahidمجاهد can you understand that arabic? what is he saying?

Regardless of what ISIL thinks and does, what do you think US isn't fighting ISIS? Isn't that because US likes the way they are dividing the Muslim Ummah?

@infatuated Well it is fighting isis
it has sent 300 military
and Iraq is calling "Ya Obama Madad"

not really!

Do you know about salauddin Ayyubi?

when US wants to fight, it does like what it did to Iraq, Libya, former Yugoslavia etc. Bombing each and every of enemy forces and their strongholds out of existence! US is certainly not doing that against ISIL.

the one who besieiged the fatimids
@infatuated Yup you want to to that
USA is not doing that because of Iran

5:29 PM
not really!
I don't want any of them killed.

Iran itself wants US to attack

I just want them stop dividing the Ummah.

@infatuated Ummah is already divided
We need to be united on one way

yes, but they are escalating it.

I dont support ISIS yet , but I am impressed
The sistani has declared jihad against isis

5:31 PM
I'm not very much approve of what the current Iranian administration is doing. In fact I'm highly critical of them. But my personal opinion is that US sees benefit in what ISIL is doing at least to certain extent, that is, in the dividing Iraq along sectarian lines that will undermine the central government of Iraq which is close to Iran.
ISIL's piece-of-cake takeover of Musol was very suspicious!

they want to remove all the puppet govt like saudi, iraq, etc
so that they can head towad jerussalem

"golden idols"? that's a false charge!
you're brining up the same old anti-Shiite prejudices!

you see the FSA, al qaida all have split away from ISIS which is what impressed me the most , the alqeda was funded by USA for removing assad
but they have shunned USA dependence and did what was the need
@infatuated Anything that is worshipped other than Allah is Idol.

regardless, they are serving the enemy's agenda of causing further division and destruction in the Ummah.

@infatuated Allah knows best
Do you know arabic?

5:37 PM
then you should remind what I told you some days ago about tawassul.
you're going in circles agains.

@infatuated Its you who are going in circles
tawassul is different then direct invocation

ok, i'm out of here.

Tawassul is bidah not shirk

ENOUGH

i don't want any other useless talk of repeating the same points.

5:39 PM
@UmarAdeel You are suspended.

@goldPseudo, Agreed, it was enough!

You will be suspended longer if you keep this garbage up.
Read the stickied message in the room: WE ARE NOT A SITE FOR ANTI-ANYTHING RHETORIC
You're allowed to discuss politics in here, but if you can't keep the discussion respectful and civil, get out.
@infatuated That goes for you too. If you see this sort of garbage getting pushed again, don't engage. Just flag it.

@goldPseudo, Sure, I'm doing my best to walk within the lines of respect and civility.

6:16 PM
@Farhan we should rather do dawah to them then say this.
similarly they should do dawah to us.'
so that we can understand each other
what IS is doing is doing in a state of war and is not applicable elsewhere.
ANd @goldPseudo I dont think I said anything disrespectful it is just your own opinion. And I myself is not against anyone but for many orthodox scholars it is what I wrote.
Also the greatest right of Allah is that he alone needs to be worshipped , worshipping anything else is violation and disrespect of rights of Allah

@UmarAdeel agree with you
@uma
@UmarAdeel: so you are supporting ISIS, right? in all ways

@Farhan Not yet , just researching about them , but really impressed
@Farhan What about you?

7:14 PM
@UmarAdeel i am with them, i got enough evidence to support them. you can say i am at 99% in view, that they are right.. just 1% doubt, which i keep on clearing based on my research, as you know, this is the age of Dajjal (Deception). finding Truth is like looking at an Ant, sitting on black mountain on black night...

@Farhan What evidences? are they prophesized?
do you apply that "black flags" hadith to them?

@UmarAdeel no, i dont apply the black fags hadith to them.
evidences like, Testimony of the peole, who have been with them. that what they say about them

and you are from pak, so how is general public viewing them?
and have any Ulemas supported them?

i am from Pakistan. General public is Brainwashed by media, majority thinks they are terrorist..
As far as Ulama are concerned, i have got many news of Jamats (Ulama in them( supporting them) but i am trying to find the Proper detailed evidences, preferably written confession that they have given them Baiyah

@Farhan Ofcourse they are, they themselves claim that they strike terror in the hearts of enemies of Islam.

7:19 PM
there are unofficial news that they are with them, but trying to get its clear evidence from them

What about Jamiat Ahle hadith

What part of "if you can't keep the discussion respectful and civil are you people not understanding here?

do they support them, they seem to be highly apolitical

No more discussion of ISIS here.
2

@goldPseudo Why? there is nothing disrespectful or uncivil being said here

7:24 PM
Then why have I needed to flag three posts in the last hour?
Enough is enough.
This is obviously not a topic people are willing to discuss reasonably. Hence, talk about it no more.

@goldPseudo Ok since you are fasting I would not continue. But I find nothing what farhan said "uncivil"
we are just discussing what others are saying. trying level best to not be anti anything not even anti-isis

7:58 PM
@UmarAdeel: no problem, i usually got this problem from Goldpsuedo. we should ot bother him, instead talk in private on some other email or chat. my email id is farhan.003@gmail.com , "i hope GoldPsuedo wont take it as dis-respectful. "

8:13 PM
@goldPseudo: why do you think that you are the authority here? no one can challenge you? and your judgments are ultimate?

@Farhan I'm a moderator. It's my responsibility to ensure that things run smoothly here.

@goldPseudo:if your decisions are wrong, then? should everyone obey your decisions as ultimate?

That includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that everyone feels welcome in this room.

@go

If you have a problem with moderator decisions, take it to meta.

8:18 PM
@goldPseudo: in sha Allah i will :) thanks for the suggestion.

Q: Too strict moderation by goldPsuedo Moderator

FarhanToday and since i have joined islam.se, i have seen that almost all of the decisions made by the moderators against other member and me, are too much strict. Today, during a chat thread, i was blocked for multiple times for just sharing my opinion about the Shias, "which is even accepted by the S...

@goldPseudo, Can this question be salvaged? It does seem too broad, but it also seems that it is more stemming from a misunderstanding or underestimation of the nature of the question by the OP. A good answer can guide the OP and at the same time avoid the broadness. that's why I actually chose to answer the question. I'd appreciate it if you take a look at it in your free time.

Q: Hadith books for reference

DhasneemI want to know that "what are the hadith books there except Al-Buhari, Al-thirmithi, Muslim?". I referred in web, in that they are mentioning as sunni hadith. In wiki-pedia, even for Al-buhari also, they are mentioning Denomination as Sunni Islam. Apart from categories ( like sunni, shiya, shaf...

9:41 PM
@infatuated It might be possible, but that sort of "list question" is rather tricky to get right on SE.

Q: What is our stance on book recommendations?

goldPseudoAs I'm sure anybody who's been frequenting the StackExchange network knows, questions asking for lists of recommendations are nothing new. Such questions are almost universally shunned, and it's fairly well established that such questions are not a good fit for the site. They do, however, tend ...

as it is, it's definitely too broad, since there's pretty much no fence to work in. Primary hadith works? Secondary hadith works? Sunni hadiths? Shi'ite hadiths? Sahih hadiths? Da'if hadiths?
There's a lot of hadiths out there.
It might be possible to make a definitive list (e.g. stackoverflow.com/q/388242/64918) but it would require a lot of effort from a lot of people.
none of which I'm particularly qualified to do, which is one reason I haven't taken the torch on that myself.
and would still require some sort of fencing to decide which books deserve to be on it.
since just blanket listing every single possible book of hadith in existence would probably be too much noise to signal.

oh, that's sure that a full list would be a tedious job for which hardly any of us are qualified.
but that's not what I meant.

that's exactly the sort of thing community wiki is good for; get enough people together to do the work, rather than relying on a single author to answer authoritatively.

I thought the user was not really aware of the broadness of the question he was asking. It was this unawareness that I thought might salvage the question.

well, the reason i bring up the "definitive" angle is because if anyone did actually make one, it would make a perfect candidate for duplicate in these cases.

the answer would instead focus on providing him a general view of the broadness of the question.
I see, that's a good idea too.

9:50 PM
@infatuated it's definitely workable, just a matter of figuring out exactly the right question to ask.

Yes, I see.

your answer to that question is excellent, by the way.
(if a bit Shi'a biased, but that's to be expected)

thank you, yeah, I think a lot of such questions can be properly addressed.

but the question still needed to be closed to prevent a spate of answers like the second one.

the bias might come from the fact that to many muslims the depth and breadth of the sources and the wisdom of "this second smaller sect" is pretty much unknown!
So i was trying to give the deserving weight to both sects.

9:56 PM
i really don't know enough about hadith studies to really know what would make a good constructive question out of it though.

hmmm

if you can mould it into something of which your answer would perfectly answer it, and which would also avoid attracting item lists of random hadith books, that's the sort of question that the site wants more of.

Yeah, I will have to think and find a solution.

I haven't been seeking out BBC radio programmes about Islam: I just happened to come across another. This one is an episode of The Moral Maze, a discussion programme about ethical issues. A panel interviews a series of guests, and then debate among themselves. Everyone is strongly opinionated. This particular episode is on the subject of British Values, in the wake of a debate about religious education.
There's quite a lot of discussion of Islam in the show, and one or two of the panelists accuse other panelists of Islamophobia.
