@bmike the canonical questions makes sense, I think you are trying the hardware one now seeing the recent edits going to the top of the page and reopening them.
It might be useful if you could outline what you are doing for each one so we don't act act cross purposes - i.e. I fixed an edit but if you are going to merge a question that would not have been the correct thing to do
Also re hardware - it depends on time i.e. you need a certain version of Xcode (and this OS X and thus Mac) for a particular iOS
re this question I like your comment "Hardware shopping questions are off-topic." - you might want to delete that - however I think as this chnage over time and I think any Mac can be used for development that we can't give a good answer
However we can point out that having memory (now > 8G) and SSD will make a difference and perhaps answering the speed vs number of cores might be useful

@Mark Thanks. The idea is that the idea get a few examples. Once we have some consensus / examples, we can decide whether to vet certain topics on a single meta question.
For example - the "what are the minimum requirements for iOS development" might need some discussion and digging to find what's out there already.
I was surprised to find one that needed minor editing to make it into the perfect question (in my eyes) - short, sweet and direct. Canonical questions that have paragraph after paragraph of context don't seem to work well IMO.
